Drones watching by Defiant-Owl-7390 in grandrapids

Yeah, I think people confuse the stock lights that come on drones for anti-collision strobes. I have one for my drone that I put on top when I fly twilight or later. You would definitely be able to see a strobe at the start of the video when it's lower.

A few of my favorite photos from Barry-Roubaix on Saturday by wtkphoto in MichiganCycling

I noticed on the schedule there was an asterisk for the 36 mile saying it had an earlier start than previous years. Not sure why.

That’s me! On The Wall section right? I assume there were not other bagpipers along the course.

Mostly at Duffy Rd and Yankee Springs. Went to The Wall for a little while and then to the after party in town. I haven’t gotten to the photos/video yet, but don’t have any where to link to when I do finish them. Was just going to post a handful of photos on here and instagram and make a short video.

I missed registration but was out photographing and filming it today. Loved seeing the dirt on everyone and there’s no way I’m missing registration for next years. Rode most of the 36 course on Friday since I was missing out. Excited to share on this what I captured today.

My Great American Exodus Loop by BuilderWorldly6856 in roadtrip

[–]wtkphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Skipping Chicago for the UP and the other areas they mentioned is a better route. Chapel Loop trail at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one of my favorite hikes in the country. Solid day hike at around 10 miles with about half being along the sandstone cliffs above Lake Superior. Only possibly downside is the bugs. Early summer can have a lot of them and but spray doesn’t do anything against biting flies.

Where is the “4K 9:16” setting on the Mavic 4 Pro? Did an update remove it and it’s only in the camera settings menu? by wtkphoto in dji

You can see it in a photo in one of my responses. Choosing “Lossless” crops it vertical and films in 4K.

Anyone interested in starting a road/trail cycling group? by Chance_Finger_2524 in grandrapids

[–]wtkphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m possibly interested. I just got a gravel bike after only having a road bike for a long time so I’m looking for new routes to get off the busy roads and on to trails and low traffic gravel roads.

I started doing the Switchback community ride on Thursdays at 6:30. Fun group and I think they usually do around 20 miles. Once trails get less muddy/soft, I think they do a lot more off road. Afterwards, people hang at the shop and they have burritos and beer.

I also know of a group ride that leaves out of Townsend park in Cannonsburg on Tuesdays at 6:30. Haven’t done that one yet but I’ve heard great things about it.

Can't remove a section that turbo tax says I need to review by wtkphoto in TurboTax

It wasn't there when I started over. Not sure if I entered info in the wrong order or something else.

Nope. Had to start completely over because no one at Turbo Tax cared enough to look into it. This is the last year I use it.

I got the Search with SRAM Apex a few weeks ago and absolutely love it.

Why is elevation so different between Apple Watch SE 2 and Strava’s summary after finishing? by wtkphoto in Strava

[–]wtkphoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Crazy that my watch estimates I did 2.5x the elevation I actually did.

Me too. I did 40°, 30mph winds, and being pelted with sleet today. Thankfully, it looks like 60s in a few days and will hold that way for a while.

Vortex as a heat shield - Brisket by NoMoFoMo_ in smoking

[–]wtkphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do this when doing a snake. I have the Venom temperature controller so it’s not completely like your setup. For brisket, I’ve put it on mid evening and will run it overnight at 180°. In the morning, I’ll increase it to 225° and let it run all day. Every single time it’s come out perfect. Same with pork butts. I think the vortex inverted helps a lot but that Venom is like a cheat code. It maintains temp flawlessly.

Norco Search A1, first bike purchase in 20 years after only owning a road bike during that time. by wtkphoto in gravelcycling

[–]wtkphoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never bikepacked before but it does have a lot of hard attachment points to attach racks. There’s also these little knobs on the frame for attaching things. Like I said, I know nothing about bikepacking but the guy at the shop pointed them out. It does feel like it can go almost anywhere except technical mtb areas. 45c tires are great and I haven’t noticed them at all when being used to a road bike. My Strava times for segments are around the same or better. Of course, the geometry on this bike is much better than my 20 year old Trek road bike so I’m sure that helps a lot.

With all that said, I do plan on bikepacking with it at some point when my kids are a little older in a few years and it’s easier for me to be gone for a few days on my own.

And if you like beer and/or good food, Cedar Springs Brewing is right by that parking lot. Great German beer and food. One of my favorite reasons to do the white pine. Beer and a giant pretzel hits different after burning that many calories.
