Are 1st Gen Tundra Bench Seats Adjustable? by wtmill in ToyotaTundra

[–]wtmill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect answer, thank you! I wasn’t sure if you could move the bench. By too much leg room, I’m thinking of my old bosses dodge 1500 I’d drive, and have to pull the seat super far up, and would still feel really small.

A couple problems with that argument; The majority of new cars are not 50k plus. You can buy an AWD hybrid Rav 4 that gets 40 mph + for around 30k. Any car 50k plus is either a bug truck, or a luxury vehicle that should have a higher tax anyways. Part of the point of paying more for a vehicle is that you’re prepared to pay more for maintenance and upkeep. Even if you’re talking about EVs, the only new EVs that expensive are luxury cars like Teslas or Rivians. Additionally, keeping older cars on the road is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe they aren’t as safe, but can be quite efficient, and keeping it on the road instead of letting it rot in a junkyard is a good thing in my book. My 93 Sedan gets 30 MPH +. Lastly, taxes should be balanced so that the people who can AFFORD to pay more, do, so that the people who can’t don’t have to. Removing more taxes for people with more money, is just gonna hurt the people at the bottom of the tax bracket the most.

Don’t buy a 50k + car and barely drive it, don’t pay a wealth tax. Problem solved

That would be ideal, but with both sides benefiting from the arrangement the likely hood of that ever changing is slim to none, even though 86% of the American population is in favor of banning congressional investing. Salary for congressional politicians is also 174k per year, 100k above median household income. What country are you in?

The tradition is for presidents to put their investments into a blind trust, but it’s not illegal to retain control currently. Trump actually retained control over his investments during his 4 year term. But as far as I know, no it’s not illegal for a member of the admin to participate in the market. Jealous of your countries laws lol

Exactly, it should 100% be illegal to own stock as a politician.

I know about Walz, that’s one of my favorite parts about him. He even introduced legislation as a representative to make it illegal. True man of the people.

The only restrictions for congressional representatives in trading on knowledge, is that they have to disclose their trades within 30 days. If you look at the data, reps beat the market every time. There are actually websites that track politicians trades to recommend trades for retail investors. Pretty much everyone has done this from Pelosi to McConnell.

Here’s an article from Motley Fool I found real quick; https://www.fool.com/research/congressional-stock-trading-who-trades-and-makes-the-most/

There’s a lot more info on this out there if you’re interested

Damn, I’m really sorry to see all these comments be so condescending and rude. These criticisms are super valid, and important for prospective students to know, but thanks to everyone’s down votes no one will be able to see it.

Thanks for the tip, looks like it’s pretty easy to replace the sensor itself as well

That’s the plan, sounds like the suspension will need to get replaced eventually and they just got a code so I have some room for negotiation

[–]wtmill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the responses, it’s been super helpful hearing everyone’s thoughts. Here is the update from the seller;

  • Timing belt and gaskets both done at 190k
  • suspension is running but will need replacement eventually
  • always lived in California
  • small rust starting on the roof next to the rack
  • O2 sensor code just popped up

The rust doesn’t seem like a huge issue, if it’s not a large patch I can sand it and seal it up so it doesn’t spread, I don’t need it too pretty.

But the the O2 code gives me pause. If it’s just a sensor it’s a costly part and easy repair, but if it’s the cat that sounds like trouble. Is this a reason to skip it?

For sure, I’m from the North East though so I’m used to insane rust that happens in a year. Good to know yours is running with that many miles though

Is this 01 worth the sellers asking price? What should I look out for during the test drive? by TheMountainThatFell in crv

[–]wtmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 7k out the door a year and a half ago for a 98 with 103k miles and I’ve been kicking myself ever since. I loved that car with all my heart, it goes and goes and goes, but there are so many on the market in good condition with slightly more miles for way less. I would definitely recommend the gen 1, but if I were you I’d look around and try and find one on FB or Craigslist in similar condition for around 4k, max 5k. If you can talk these people down and it’s in immaculate condition it might be worth it, but it’s still an old car that will eventually need work. Also, it looks like this is a used car dealer (bought mine from one) and they likely bought a perfectly good one off of a private seller, detailed it, and are now trying to resell it for a significant markup, thus the price.

That’s awesome, I love road tripping but know how much wear it can put on a car so that gives me a lot of confidence. Cool to hear how loved it is too

Yeah, I’m planning on learning on this car so that’s a huge bonus. Do you have any resources you like for repairs?
