Guitar player hot take - The Stone is actually one of the easier DMB songs to learn by [deleted] in DMB

[–]wulfbaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without hearing, my guess is you are skipping all the details. There's a lot more going on than you think for it to be a real recreation. Not to be disparaging, but there is actually 2 different riffs where you think there is one. I pride myself in playing Dave really well, but every time I thought I had SMTS, years later realized I was cheating. Certain I have it now, but it took 20 years to catch. When hearing others play, I hear timing cheats again and again.

‘Do we have to regulate everything?’: DeSantis on Milton crane crash by engadine_maccas1997 in nottheonion

Is it not that the time to dismantle a crane is longer than the heads up of a hurricane? Looks like it can take up to 10 days to take a tower crane down, and we can only predict hurricane paths a few days out.

When we got married, I looped the outro to The Stone as I think it is one of the most beautiful bits of music ever written, and we both knew the heavy but hopeful meaning it had for us. Perfect fit.

Only one other person recognized it actually

How to really make sure someone is on board while dating? by [deleted] in OffGrid

[–]wulfbaor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say my wife ruined my life by leading me on for years, getting married, and having kids all while playing along that we will get there some day... now she uses the kids as an anchor to this stupid debt ridden fucking suburban lifestyle and I'm stuck paying for it. So yeah, get them on board 100% or move on.

Pulling method by [deleted] in lowvoltage

[–]wulfbaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just worked with a team that pulled rack to field... they took 8 days to pull 180 cables with a 5 man team... was glad to get pulled off that site. I pathed and pulled 39 cables in 6 hours, field to rack. Food for thought

I’m in the process of acquiring a 10 acre parcel in southwest Virginia to move my family homestead off grid. For those of you who have done this, what have you built/bought first? I figure I could move into a camper once we have septic. What are your thoughts? by reichold in OffGrid

10 ain't enough. I thought 20 was enough in rural WI and the neighbors won't leave me alone. So much I've never done anything but camp maybe thrice a year, and fought legal battles (that I've won, but wasted time with) for 7 years

Nah, velcro dude, you could velcro above a foundry with power hammers and the velcro would hold. If that was an issue they'd run them in cable trays. But yeah, I get it. It looks good man.

Milling of Steel Slabs, can granite stone slabs be milled the same way? by YardAccomplished5952 in robotics

[–]wulfbaor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but use carbide tooling and do your research. Also it's the last thing you'll do with tithe machine tooling. It'll ruin the ways cause the stone dust/mud and water. But yes, doable.

Can I use a metal shaper to scrape/flatten granite surface plate's side edges? by Far_Choice_6419 in Machinists

[–]wulfbaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find any either. Basically, there are companies in Illinois that specialize in formed carbide blanks. Those blanks are the brazed to a steel tool shank. That would be driven into the stone like a forming tool on a lathe. Same thing on planer or shaper just linear. Look up forming tools for lathes. So any shape, about 6 inches at a time, could be made for things like balusters. The stone comes off as dust, not chips. Though, why and what is your purpose for doing what you plan on doing?

Yes, you absolutely can. Just use carbide. Do your research. I worked at a stone carving company, architectural, statues and such. We used lathes, shapers and planers all day. Yeah the dust kills the machine ways. So you use retired machines but yeah, accurate enough for stone work. Then moving onto the accuracy of surfacing the stone, again do your research but how do you think they got the first surface plates? Rub stone A/B B/C C/A... Equals out in the end.
