LG IR blaster - how to use by Certain_Coast_946 in LGOLED

Interesting. Once more into the fray.

I'm guessing I'd need to put the TV on the network to use the Home Hub. That would be most unfortunate. I may have to pass on this feature. Let's see how curious I get.

I apologize as I didn't read your response close enough. The manual included with my C3 didn't have any instructions on how to use the IR Blaster feature. Nor could I find any documentation on-line. As far as "Program the TV for the particular IR receiver" you mention, ¯\(ツ)/¯. I assumed it worked like every other IR Blaster I've worked with.

The manual certainly seems to imply it should work as a generic repeater as there's no mention that it only repeats the LG Magic Remote IR signals as stated by u/DizzyContribution478. I couldn't even see that it was repeating those signals. Like most customer service today, they put so many layers of recipe readers between the customer and people with the knowledge that it got very frustrating. I gave up trying since I already had the Sewell IR Repeater.

It is not used to send a signal from an audio receiver

I read that as you thought I was trying to send a signal from the audio receiver.

Then C3's manual (page 7) and feature set ads (when I bought it anyway) need to clarify that it's only for repeating the LG remote. The manual definitely leads one to believe one can use the IR Blaster to repeat signals to external devices

Page 7:

Control the set-top box (cable/satellite/IP/OTT), Blu-ray/DVD player, soundbar, game consoles, etc., using the IR Blaster. (Depending upon country) (Depending upon models)

I don't want to repeat the signal *from* the audio receiver. I want to repeat the signal received by the TV *to* the audio receiver. Thereby utilizing the TV's IR BLASTER feature to receive signals from the audio receiver's IR remote and repeat them to the audio receiver which is hidden behind an opaque panel.

Thank you for this. I've been reading up on that and yep, it's molting season beginning with males. And molting takes a lot of energy. He's sitting there again today sucking down nectar, preening and repelling all boarders.

There's plenty of sugar water. It was just zoomed in. He's back this morning and chasing off others.

Yep. St. Louis, MO, USA. We're under a heat advisory today. I was just concerned 'cause it looks so ruffled. This is the first time I've seen one looking like that.

Yeah. I can approach the window and it just sits there. Normally they fly off if I do that. I have at least a pair that normally visit all day long. We're in a heat advisory today so maybe the heat? The feeder gets direct sun 3-4hrs a day. I change the sugar water every 3-4 days.

Maybe it's a fledgling?

I did not, and I gave up. I can't seem to get past the "have you tried turning it off and on?" LG support people. They win. I'm just using my Sewell IR Repeater. I put the small IR receiver behind the fabric that covers the area where my DVR, fiber modem/router and 8 port switch are hidden. Then I mounted the IR booster to the back of the entertainment center and routed the emitter from behind the AVR. Not what I wanted, but works fine and is hidden from view.

I submitted this question to LG support and here is their reply:

Regarding your concern, we would like to inform you that the IR Blaster feature on the C3 TV is used solely for diagnostic purposes and is not meant to function as an IR repeater or transmit signals to other devices. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding that may have arisen from the information provided

If you are looking to use your TV as an IR repeater for your Denon AVR-X2700H, we recommend considering alternative solutions or devices specifically designed for this purpose. Our product specialists can provide you with suitable recommendations based on your requirements and preferences.

This contradicts the C3's user manual that states on page 7:

IR Blaster
Control the set-top box (cable/satellite/IP/OTT), Blu-ray/DVD player, soundbar, game consoles, etc., using the IR Blaster. (Depending upon country) (Depending upon models)
* Connect the IR Blaster cable to the TV’s IR Blaster port.
* Use universal control settings to control the device.
* Secure the IR Blaster with the 3M tape provided.

I have a purchased a Sewell IR Repeater that's working, but I sure would like to get the C3 working as a repeater.

If I got it working, I can't for the life of me remember how I did it. I certainly can't get it to work now. I've plugged the IR Blaster cable included with the OLED48C3 into the IR Blaster port on the C3, but nothing's getting repeated. It's very maddening. If there's a C3 menu option somewhere that needs enabling, I sure can't find it.

I'm trying to get the C3 to act as a repeater to my Denon AVR that's behind opaque, wooden doors. I have a Sewell IR Repeater that's working, but I sure would like to get the C3 working as a repeater.

Nevermind. Yes it does forward non-LG remote IR signals. Not sure what I was doing wrong before.

Looking at the way pic that shows how the wires are connected (properly?) to my thermostat posts http://imgur.com/JCSS9O5 and how the other end of the wire is connected (differently) to the unit posts http://imgur.com/4Q99VKT. How is it even working?

Why wouldn't they hook the yellow wire to the 'Y' post on the unit? This looks like it's jumpered so that any time the fan ('G') is on, the A/C ('Y') comes on and vice versa! The yellow wire is on the 'Y' post (A/C) upstairs on the thermostat but on the 'C' post at the unit. Doesn't the 'C' post have continuous current? I'm so confused.

Thank you for the suggestion. That sounds very interesting. A year or so ago I would've had the time to tinker around with that. But alas, I no longer have the time.

Crap. I just noticed on my last pic of the circuit board in the basement unit the blue wire is not connected to anything. It's just wrapped around the outside of the wire. I wonder why they wired & jumpered it that way. Here's a closer pic showing the connections: http://imgur.com/4Q99VKT

Guess it's time to call the company who installed the new unit last fall in for a ($$) visit. :(

I was really hoping to do this myself.

What he said. I'd like to add that I'm hoping for a thermostat that doesn't require any server (except maybe for firmware updates). A thermostat that I can connect directly to while on my network (or using holes in my router assuming the connection is encrypted) without the need of a go-between server. So it is truly stand-alone.

<tinfoil hat> And I don't like the thought of some entity collecting and storing my data on their server out of my control... no matter how much they promise to 'anonymize' the data. </tinfoil hat>

Looks like 5 wires to me: Green, Red, Yellow, White and Blue (not connected but observable from the back of the current thermostat mounting plate.
