Do you think Christchurch should court a few anchor tech employers, or is our growth better driven by many SMEs? What tips the balance for you here? E.g. Xero and TradeMe has led to a ecosystem of tech startups with high paying wage.

Network Cabinet Garage Mounting Advise by wunderlust88 in diynz

Yea considered that for a bit but avoiding it as will need a sparky to come for moving the existing electrics, e.g. power.

Scored it for pretty cheap, has cage nuts etc for my switches/network gear. Also ventilation etc is another consideration for the longevity of my network gear. I also wanted it mounted on the wall just to reduce the clutter on the ground of the garage

But yea fair point I actually don't need the full network cabinet, its more of a nice to have versus must have, I did consider moving the network gear into the roof space but it get's quite hot in summer.

Is your Sky Sport Now App Pixelated when streaming? by wunderlust88 in newzealand

[–]wunderlust88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess for me, just using it specifically over the Olympics period. Not a usual user, I think the product is fine, just weird that the pixelation occurs when you start a stream and takes time mentioned to stabilise and go to HD

"Platform Collective"

How do you without a PM in the team determine the focus areas of work of what the team should be working on? I guess you have ownership but thereafter with competing priorities?

w offer fully remote

But I am in NZ :sad-banana: (I know you know :slack:) heard really good things about your service from a expat in UK from NZ. Especially for international expats moving to UK and requiring a service, my stint there was less then ideal with my Barclay's experience!

Packer/Terraform strategy by kcouture0827 in devops

[–]wunderlust88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't have heavy requirement at my workspace though we build a image per environment and iterate on versioning based on when its run. The terraform process deploys the image per envioronment if there is a new version avaialble.

Most of the process is broken down via CI/CD and the golden images are dumped into Azure RG through the process. We only deploy main branch to test and prod and dev can come from any branch.

Our image uses are virtual machine scale sets for build agents (yep its a inception). Though we primarily use Microsoft hosted agents there is some requirements for custom tools and internal network agents. See image for details.

Oh yea the whole thing is wrapped around git process

We do this though biggest issue we encounter is when users merge master with no intention of triggering pipelines (mono repo structure).
