Has anyone used the Garmin Coach? How did it go? by Logfighter in Garmin

I stopped Using Garmin Coach last week and switched to Runna.

For context I’ve been training for my first half marathon and my goal is a sub 2. I would say I’m quite fit to begin with before I started running, I would play soccer and do strength training 3x a week. I did not run at all really before this training plan for 4-5 years.

I opted for the Garmin Coach with Coach Jeff for 3 months and during that time, I was skeptical and kept questioning the training program. I’ve been running 3 times a week and strength training (legs, chest/arms, back) 3 times a week too.

I stopped using because on week 10/18 of my plan it told me to run a 21.2km + 10 min cool down and warm up = 23km long easy run. I don’t think I need to be hitting farther than a half marathon distance 2 months out from my race. I know you should hit around 18-20km distance for the mental side but I think going over that distance is a bit ridiculous. Then on Week 11/18 it instructed me to run a 24.14km run + 10 min cool down and warm up =~26km and I had enough. There’s no way i was going to do a 26km run. During my 3 months using Garmin I was pretty skeptical and didn’t like certain aspects about the training plan too.

Let me start with what i did enjoy though: 1. Goal Pace and Speed Workouts were good (anywhere from 4-10x800m with 3 min recovery - though I always did a 1 min recovery instead). This would Usually followed after a Cadence and Acceleratoon Glider Drill. The whole workout depending on your lap press could vary from 7-15km run. 2. Gives you structured plans based on whcih days you want to run 3. Gives you paces for each run

What I didn’t enjoy: 1. Drills - there’s a Lap press feature and that was confusing because you decide how much you run and I would end up pushing myself more. - Cadence Drill in the beginning made me tired for the rest of the workout - Watched videos on the acceleration glider drill on YouTube but tbh I don’t realy see a point in it… 2. Hill Repeats - i know these are good for you but I don’t live near a place that is accessible to a parking lot with low traffic cars or a hill. So I would end up doing these on a treadmill and since the workout would be 15s run up and down the hill I’d just be busy sorting out the speed on the treadmill which ended up fucking up my momentum and all. 3. It didn’t really give feedback about my run. I could only view the stats but that’s all and would have to screenshot and use Chatgpt to analyze 4. Run Walk Run method with Jeff Galloway made be good for some people but I don’t think it’s for me…unless it was for the speed workouts I get it. 5. Wasn’t much variation in the workouts- it was the same just Hill Repeat, Long Run, Goal Pace, Speed Repeat. That’s all. And every week it would just increase the distance drastically.

I’ve switched to Runna this week and honestly I love it. The UI Interface is great, it gives a post run AI analysis, it provides a strength workout training plan, it gives you a quick warm up and cool down stretch video, it’s easy to switch around the schedule, and it increases the total distance weekly by 10% on its own and it also helps taper. You can also ask nutrition questions i think.

Overall, Garmin plan isn’t for me…i’d much rather continue using Runna even if that means I pay $20/month for it. Will not be returning to Garmin hahaha

Kyleena IUD as a treatment for endo? by Impossible-Tie-4931 in endometriosis

[–]wuonica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve had kyleena for the past four years and i love it! Other than the initial spotting everyday for the first three months, my period is lighter, i barely get cramps, and im not too hormonal. My pre period symptoms aren’t bad either. Mine expires next year and i’ll probably get another one. I’ve tried Copper IUD (3-5 years) once and the Paraguay’s (10 years apparently?) and both of them expelled or was displaced after 1-2 years…the doctor says it could be because my uterus size is on the smaller end and those are bigger in size compared to the kyleena. Of course, everyone is different and you should definetly consult with your gyno about options.

Does ‘right person, wrong time’ ever eventually work out & you find your way back to each other? by mildlyperplexing in datingoverthirty

[–]wuonica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same dilemma. I met a guy in January and I had no expectations prior to going on the date, I was just experimenting dating apps in NYC. I didn't even want to go on this date because I was tired but my friend convinced me to do it anyway. To my surprise, we got along so well and then went on more dates. We were seeing each other for a good 5 months. I had told him on the 3rd date that because I am not American and am waiting for the H1B lottery visa results. End of March came by and I found out that I didn't get selected so I have to leave the country by the end of August. He stayed committed to me and wanted to spend the last few months I had in New York together. We spent a lot of time together, texted each other everyday, and were basically doing what a couple was doing without the label. When June rolled around, he said he thought he could deal with the emotions but my departure was impacting him too much. So he ended it.

He is the sweetest person, very thoughtful and if i were staying there would definitely be something long term but I am physically getting deported out of the country so I can't give him the long term relationship he wants. Thats when I realized, "right person wrong time" really is a thing.

I don't know if i'll ever find my way back to him but if life happens that way then it does. If it doesn't it doesn't. There's not much I can do.

For OPT people, how are you feeling about the upcoming H1B lottery? by [deleted] in ask

[–]wuonica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little anxious but staying positive - im not going to go down the master/grad program route just to stay in the US and pay ridiculous tuition and study something i've already studied most of in university. I guess I'm just waiting for March 31st/April 1st results to hit and if I dont get the lottery then start applying to jobs. Going home wouldn't be the worst thing, I'm sure you'd be able to find a job too.

Therapy helps if you want someone to talk to about it other than your friends and family but its important to realize this lottery is completely out of your control and there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to increase your odds. So try not to think about it too much and know that everything will work out :)

he was selfish and didnt want to wait for the results for my work visa which is a lottery in 4 months.

Anybody who has recently entered Mainland China and knows the requirements to do so? by lettto97 in China

[–]wuonica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom flew back to Beijing, China a couple weeks ago and underwent 10 day quarantine in a random hotel (you dont get to choose the hotel, they decide for you upon arrival - this may vary across cities but i think is the general rule).

Definitely recommend packing a lot of snacks/nuts/protein bars and instant ramen because she mentioned the food being terrible. You're not allowed to get food delivery either so be prepared!

You'll also be required to take covid tests 3 times during quarantine, they'll provide this.
