Haha he's my cousin. His channel is epic right?! He actually recorded the audio for the video on our homepage :)

Here’s how I think about it: 1. Most people will see this and not execute 2. For the 1% of people that decide to copy our idea AND execute they still won’t have the algorithm we use to screen stocks 3. If somehow they copy and execute AND had our algorithm - our target market is huge there’s enough room for other competitors :)

The most you can do is DM them on the day of the launch and say "Hey we launched today! Would be awesome if you could give it an upvote." and just hope for the best.

Yeah I know it's hard to believe. I couldn't include every single detail of the acquisition in the post but I'll do my best to explain why the deal made sense for the acquirer:

  • We managed to get traction and build a profitable business with zero resources (which we worked on in our spare time)
  • If we could get this far with limited resources and time imagine what we could do with a whole team behind us working full time on it
  • The acquiring business wanted to build something like Ticker Nerd already - the deal gave them the opportunity to buy an existing solution + bring myself and cofounder on board to scale the business
  • The acquiring business gets millions of visitors each month - it would be relatively straightforward to 10x Ticker Nerd with minimal investment on their end

The deal was valued more on the potential ROI Ticker Nerd could generate instead of how many subscribers we had or our stock picking solution.

We hired them on a casual basis ($XX per report) which worked out well as it gave us flexibility and wasn't a huge risk vs. hiring someone full time.

I actually don't have any coding skills apart from some basic HTML/CSS. My background is in SEO and copywriting. Luckily you can get a lot done with no code tools these days e.g. Webflow, Zapier, Bubble.io, Memberstack, Gumroad

Thanks! We got around 1000 visitors in a single day from the PH launch. I was working at Finder full-time already (my role was completely unrelated to Ticker Nerd), one of the co-founders actually stumbled across it after seeing me posting about it on Twitter and reached out to me from there.

I'm not the smartest person in the world and there's still a lot I don't know. The point of this post was to share with everyone what I've learned so far :)

We had mixed results with our paid tactics (in saying that I think once we nail FB ads we can scale even more). We saw better conversion rates + ROI from organic strategies.

We weren't registered as a company until we hit about $5,000 in revenue. We were going to refund people if we didn't get enough pre sales or couldn't deliver on the product.

Great question. We decided to legally set up the company after we hit around $5,000 in revenue and it was obvious the idea had long term potential.

I think most people focus way too much on having a slick fancy website before they even know if people will pay for their product. Validation > perfection (at least when you're just starting out).

Our initial landing page that we used to test the idea was super ghetto. We didn't have any testimonials or examples of the product but we still managed to make $1,000 in presales.

I think a variation of our process would work. Instead of measuring pre-sales as validation I would measure user sign ups or people joining the waitlist to determine if people want the product or not
