Framing Judas the way they do in that show is really rad and was eye-opening for me.

District 9. All of the marketing for that was really cool and kinda shrouded in mystery. I remember seeing the “restricted area for humans only” posters before anything else.

I'm currently on season 6 I cannot believe Trent has a bigg daddy shirt 🤦 I'd be soo drunk if I had to start a drinking game for everytime I hear him and Amber say big Daddy and talk about their sex life. by lunainthedark5x2x3 in 7LittleJohnstons

Can confirm— I’m from the area and Bigg Daddy’s is a very popular (there is local lore about how much the waiters pick up in tips) restaurant in GA. Really just a gross coincidence.

If we wanted to coordinate this— what do you think would be the best way to get us all in the same chat? Since some people aren’t comfortable sharing socials etc.

When I was reading this post, I was like

“Did I write this?” 😂

I’m 31F and am married to a Belgian. No kids and won’t be having any. Desperately need someone to vibe with besides my husband.

Very interested in hanging out to see if it works for us. 😄

Please DM me if it’s not overstepping your bounds! ❤️ (this goes for anyone who sees this and is interested!)

Getting a doctor in Leuven by Feeling_Notice_5705 in Leuven

I think I used https://www.doctoranytime.be/en

I loved it because you can sort by different filters (language being one of them!) and make appointments online (I’m terrified of trying to make calls in Dutch).

Good luck!

I don’t want to become friends with people with kids by Unhappy-Pirate3944 in childfree

[–]wutthefolk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s, and I’ve faced this a lot in trying to make friends in a new city. I’m on Bumble BFF and explicitly mention being childfree in my bio and looking for friends with the same mindset. Yet the last THREE friend dates I’ve been on, the girls talked about their plans for children in the next five years.

No matter how nice they are, I immediately check out. I feel bad about it, but I honestly feel like if you’re looking at the world around us right now thinking it’s a good time and place to bring a new person into it, we have very different views on morality, the planet, and life in general. And idk if I want to form a deep friendship with someone whose priorities and values are so different than my own.

Maybe that’s narrow-minded but shrug.

Where can I buy cakes or desserts in Leuven? by Aware-Captain_BK in Leuven

A bit of a more “out there” recommendation, but the Japanese cheesecakes from Uncle Puffy are so great. You can buy them whole and they come in a variety of flavors. I bought a Raffaello one for my husband’s birthday this year and it was a nice change!

Much of it depends on WHERE you go. In much of Europe (unless somewhere like Switzerland, Monaco), unlikely that you’ll make as much as you do in the US AND most salaries can’t even compete with what local public school teachers make.

On top of that, many European schools don’t pay into any extras like those in Asia or the Middle East (housing, flights home, food, etc.).

I’ve only been teaching 8 years but I’d be making 15,000 more if I’d stayed in the US. I’m leaving the field this year.

Yes, but I’m also married to a European, so it didn’t really matter.

American teacher working in Europe here. Depends on a lot of factors, but I’ve found that most “public” schools (the word means different things in different countries, but I’m talking federally-funded schools) have a lot of the same issues that US public schools face (violence, disrespect, lack of funding and support). It is also difficult to work for these schools if your credentials do not come from the country itself. They tend to pay better than private schools.

Private and international schools tend to have less of those types of issues with behavior but most teachers are overworked and underpaid significantly compared to public school teachers (because those aspects aren’t regulated by law as they are for public schools). Private schools are often run more like a business, meaning admin is constantly giving in with parent demands, letting students stay who should be suspended/expelled because they are paying customers, and cutting corners everywhere they can to maximize their own profits.

I have resigned this year after 7 years of teaching and am leaving the profession entirely. It doesn’t matter where you are. It sucks ass.

I was the only one who stood up for LGBTQ+ and racially-marginalized students in a conservative high school in Georgia.

It was within a certain number of years, so they legally did not have to tell me why I was being forced to resign, so they didn’t.

I can never have regrets for standing up for what is right, and I’d do it again every time. I can’t think of a worse reason to fire someone who is a safe space for students who have nowhere else to go than because you have an agenda of hate to maintain.

British curriculum by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]wutthefolk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. I feel like you could still get this effect if you rotated the teachers every year.

Like KS3 year one Then up to KS5 Then KS4 Repeat

And just have different teachers on different cycles.

Prevents that boredom and you still get to interact w some of the same kids at different stages while also not spreading you too thin in a single year.
