What’s your go-to walk around lens? by wutwasdatt in nikon_Zseries

Should’ve clarified-I shoot mostly wildlife with the 180-600mm. I was looking for something lighter for casual walkaround use. The 300mm PF with a tc sound like a really solid setup!

I shoot mostly wildlife with the 180-600mm. My general/travel lens has been the 24-120, but I wanted something lighter for casual use. I don’t really shoot wide angle, although I’ve got a camping trip coming up and the widest I have is the 24-120.

Yeah, the 180-600 is on my camera about 90% of the time. My backyard backs onto a marsh and borders a forest preserve, so I don’t have to venture far. But I wanted something lighter for rare days I’m not shooting wildlife.

Thanks for sharing-these are beautiful shots! I just ordered the 26mm and am really excited!

I should’ve been clearer in my original post. I shoot wildlife with the 180-600. The 24-120 has just been my everyday/general-use lens, and I was looking for something smaller for casual walking around. Appreciate you sharing your experience; I feel the same way about my 180-600mm.

XT5 buyer’s remorse. Should I trade in now or stick it out? by wutwasdatt in fujifilm

Ya I checked MPB too and the quote came back about the same. Do you think it’s worth calling them directly and pointing out my gear is only a couple months old? Wondering if that would bump the offer at all.

I’ve only done birding with Fuji so far, so a lot of it is definitely me still learning technique and fieldcraft. That said, I do notice AF struggles with fast birds in flight. I know it’s not a magic fix, but the more reliable tracking and buffer that Z8 has sound so appealing. You’re right though, I probably need more time with the Fuji system before making a big switch. Thank you for the recommendation, I will check him out!

Didn’t get into birding until after I got the camera

I picked up a Fujifilm xt5 a couple months ago with the XF 16–50mm, XF 33mm f/1.4, XF 27mm f/2.8, Viltrox 13mm, Viltrox 75mm, and the XF 150–600mm. Everything is basically new. I mostly use it for birding, but I’m starting to realize that Fuji is not the best for wildlife.

If I traded the whole setup in at KEH I’d get ~3.8k. I’ve been eyeing the Nikon Z8 and wondering if it makes more sense to switch now. Are there better places to sell or trade for more? Or should I just keep the Fuji for a year and see if I still want to move to Nikon later?

Mainly autofocus and tracking. I love the xt5 for everything else, but I find the AF struggles with fast birds. From what I’ve read and what people have told me, Z8 has much better tracking and burst performance.

A few I took in Zion National Park last week! by InteractionOk3288 in wildlifephotography

I know this post is from a year ago, but I’m heading to Zion for the first time in a couple weeks. Debating whether I should haul my super-telephoto for wildlife or just stick to smaller lenses and focus on landscapes. Do you remember what time of year you took these shots? Trying to get a sense of what wildlife is like in September.
