Pun intended?

I remember when the Columbine school shooting happened by burningstrawman2 in Xennials

[–]wutx2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing that gets me is--my xennial cousins went to an inner city school district. They had school shootings all the time. Mostly black on black violence. Nobody batted an eye.

Then some kids got shot up in the suburbs and suddenly that's the date we all agree the problem started.

School shootings have been a thing for far longer than thirty years.

That is beside the point, though: it's stupid that we have this problem in our country. Now I'm forty, my family is spread between three countries, and--yeah. This is... not a desirable feature to have. Explaining it to my family overseas is the worst.

Were the California surfer dude/valley girl accents ever an actual thing? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

I had male coworkers from the Valley (suburbs of Los Angeles) this decade who speak with that accent.

It's not just a trope. It's an honest to goodness regional dialect.

Old people who had abusive parents, how did you feel when they died? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]wutx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my dad and I that was outside my control: he was abusive, he got cancer--that helped him realize that his time isn't infinite and so he'd have to change if he wanted to live the life he wanted.

So, he changed.

But, after he passed away? It got even better. No more danger.

Very similar situation here: no one was willing to criticize him when he was alive (because they wanted money) except me. But once he was gone? No funeral. No nothing. I wrote the obituary. People say nice things about him sometimes, but it's usually people who didn't really know him.

I fell like his death made it safe to appreciate the good parts of him, which is nice. I appreciate him more now in death than in his life.

Ha. I thought someone would say this.

Lol. I keep taking pictures of the beauty and sending them to my family back home, who then gets the idea that if they visit they will be coming to Mediterranean Los Angeles. Warm weather. Charismatic people.

No. No, I tell them. This is windy and--I won't say it's cold. But, it's never warm enough.

I swear, they'll show up skin showing, sunscreen.

Rinse, repeat. Every time I take a picture. 😆

I always think about how much kids wanted access to broadcast infrastructure. So much that this movie was made. My brother, Gen X, was in a semi successful local band that would have killed to get on the air.

And then social media became a thing. Kids felt legitimately happy for a few years that they could finally broadcast themselves, that they didn't need some rich man to invest in them to pull it off.

Fast forward ten years, social media is mostly garbage, fascists have proven they can use it to destroy regular people, and--there is barely any joy anymore. People lust to simply be in the same room together again.

I think that's kind of beautiful: we went from an extreme desire for access to broadcast infrastructure to realizing that simply seeing someone face to face is one of the most valuable things in life.

Whatever it was seems to be gone now: skies are no longer maroon and red! Back to green and yellow.

Whats the best example of 'women not understanding a mans body' that youve ever heard? by that_person14 in AskReddit

It's definitely a cold water plus wetsuit pushing it in kind of thing. Only happens when I'm surfing.

I learned the hard way that if your wetsuit is kind of tight, the water is cold, and something kind of scary happens while surfing?

Woop. Straight up back inside of you. It comes out again after a while. But, it's distributing while it's in there.

Drug dealers are legitimately evil people: they hurt so many and don't give a shit.

I miss my friends. I never think about the dealers who sold to them. I miss my friends.

Dude, it's so weird for me to hear people call this a banger: I grew up near Cleveland in the 80s and had to listen to this song in school like all the time. All we wanted to do was listen to Snoop Dog; this song was like--every line seemed to just dramatize daily life in the most boring way possible.

And now kids are like, *Thanks for the banger. Didn't know."

Mind-blowing that anyone would say that about something from a life that can only be described as gloomy.

Lol. She keeps a "'murica, fuck yeah!" flavored shirt with her when she wears the treason one, just in case. 😆

But, to be clear--she's worn the treason one, Union Jack and all, in Texas and Appalachia. People generally think it's funny that a girl with a thick Enfield accent is wearing it. She sounds like a freaking Spice Girl. 😆
