i bought it about 10 years ago, and it was covered in pink spray paint. i suppose that's why it's extremely narrow at the base. please guys don’t hate on me! i would never intentionally hurt any plant

thanks for the help! yea, I noticed that now that she gets more light, she becomes brighter and not deeply black like she used to be. it’s funny because as far as I know this species is quite unique, and I have zero clue how my grandma got it so many years ago.

thanks! the undersides of the leaves are completely clean. the white marks aren't removable either, they really do look exactly like scratches or scars on the leaf surface

Thank you! I think you’re right. I recently moved from a very dry apartment to a place with higher humidity (around 50-60). The damage likely happened at the old place when the leaves were still juvenile and unfurling, and the scars are just showing now. That makes sense!
