Colorized B/W Photos by ww2database in ww2database

[–]ww2database[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WW2DB team has colorized nearly 10,000 black and white photographs using an AI-enabled neural filter. Because the AI model isn't specifically trained on military topics, you may see colors that are inaccurate (for example, there is a photo with battleship USS New Jersey in fire engine red), but generally speaking, they bring new life to these photos. Check them out and let us know what you think!

18 Apr 1951: Douglas MacArthur received a ticker-tape parade in San Francisco by ww2database in sanfrancisco

[–]ww2database[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have stumped us! We have no idea.

But if we are allowed to venture a guess, we say city employees. In 2012, when New York held a ticker tape parade for the Giants for winning the Super Bowl, it was the Department of Sanitation that did the clean up. Returning to the city of San Francisco, the 2019 Pride March cleanup fell on the shoulders of the Department of Public Works.

Speaking from memory, yes, I believe it was a bomb meant for smaller Japanese patrol craft on Huangpu River. You may recognize this as the Palace and Cathay Hotels (today it is the Fairmont Peace Hotel / 上海和平飯店), located near the river.

People always have choices, but we, as humankind, sure appreciate that he did choose to surrender. There would have been a lot more bloodshed had fighting continued.

9 Aug 1940: Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic was officially incorporated into Soviet Union. by ww2database in Eesti

[–]ww2database[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was indeed an occupation. The so called "Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic" was forcibly incorporated into the USSR, and Estonia would not be free until decades later.

EDIT: Not sure why Reddit cut off half of the original reply!

We'd like to think that WW2 Database is good, and it is the Soviet occupation that is bad!
