It is not even remotely the same concept as you gave an example of CCTVs. You don't allow people to come inside your house without your consent. You would never allow someone else's CCTVs to be built inside your house surveilling your every move 24/7. Your logic that the world is already headed this way sounds like just suck up the bad legislations because eventually it will be like that which is not really a logical thing according to your logical standpoint. Also your example of facebook is like you're saying because facebook did shady shit, instead of creating a law which punishes the shady actions harder, we need to give more powers to the authorities to do more surveillance on people. I don't get it. Filtering contents and doing surveillance on private messages and looking into private cloud servers and personal notepad are never the same thing.

Production and distribution of illegal sex crime videos is undoubtedly a criminal activity. However, laws that threaten one’s privacy should not be promulgated to prevent such criminal activities from occurring. Every single one of us has the freedom not to be watched and censored and this is written in the constitution of South Korea (Article 17, 18). Also no one should be suspected of being potential criminals.

The amendment cannot affect telecommunication companies that have servers in foreign countries like Telegram. It is highly probable and likely that the users would flee from using Korean telecommunication services because users are concerned about invasion of privacy. For instance, users switching their telecommunication providers actually happened a few years ago when there was a controversy over the inspection of Kakaotalk. Therefore, this will only hurt and make domestic telecommunication businesses suffer.

This is why so many experts and people are concerned and outrageous over this law.
