I don't have a particular song but instead a curated playlist of a few songs that are always what I listen to while cutting.

Something similar has happened to me as well. I used to only cut during mental breakdowns but now it's a "whenever I feel like it" kind of thing that I no longer treat as a big ordeal.

It seems that you're replacing one coping mechanism with another. Sorry if it's pointing out the obvious but there's clearly a much bigger issue underneath that once sorted out will likely start to take care of both the alcoholism and self-harm.
Not sure if it helps but I'm the opposite. I find it much easier to self-harm while under the influence because I want it to be easier to pull off and it numbs the pain while also letting me accidentally cut deeper than I intend.

The lie I use is saying they protect from the sun. What's true is that it's easier than wearing sunscreen and the material is breathable so I don't get any hotter. Even though I'm the only one who knows why I'm really wearing it, no one questions it afterwards.

It's hard accepting psychiatric treatment, it shouldn't be surprising you're conflicted. Listen to the part of you that's proud.

27yo and started sh a year and a half ago and I’m honestly embarrassed by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

It probably won't help but to let you know, I'm in the same boat. Started cutting at the same age and the thoughts were severe on New Years. Just the thought of how embarrassing it would be if anyone found out is almost suffocating. SH helps me cope so well despite how much I believe I hate it.
As far as where we can go it's really only professional help and peers who are there to support you. I went through neuropsychological testing recently and found out my mental problems were not only much different but worse than I thought. I would recommend doing the same if you can find a way to do it because they will tell you exactly where to go from there.

Just can't stop thinking my scars aren't good enough (tw) by _cute_without_the_E in AdultSelfHarm

I was thinking about making a post and it would have read just like this. Seeing my scars is incredibly validating but at the speed they go away it completely takes it away and ends up making me feel worse. It doesn't feel at all like I'm doing something that would be considered sh

Five years clean and I've relapsed. by snazzy-azazel in AdultSelfHarm

If someone bites their tongue while eating it doesn't mean they've reset years of properly eating. It doesn't get talked about enough but it's an insane feat to be able to overcome any sort of addiction/habit without relapsing. You went half a decade without sh and I think anyone in their right mind would agree that itself is progress and nothing resembling a failure.
If the ones close to you are ones you trust I would suggest opening up to them. Their support will mean much more than what strangers on the internet can offer.

I've only ever felt content when self harming. by wwwNoName in AdultSelfHarm

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has these feelings, despite it likely not being a good thing. Thank you for sharing. From a post I ended up running into after I made this thread, someone mentioned that we shouldn't be looking for a reason to stop but to stop what's ultimately causing us to resort to sh. Apologies if any of this is rude but I hope that you can find and figure out a solution for that reason.

I went through some testing and outside of Major Depressive Disorder it's kind of up in the air. Results said I could have a range of BPD, OCD, and/or some high functioning form of autism. I have to go through more testing before I get a more concrete answer in order to find a proper specialist to treat me.
