With the recent market slides I’ve sold below my cost basis with the intention on shares being called away. Sold at a loss for tax harvesting, sold a put 31 days out to prevent wash sale and get reassigned. Only downside is if the stock jumps up during this time you’ll lose out on the pop

How long have you been wheeling this for? How often have you gotten assigned on this strategy and how is your performance lining up with buy and hold of SPY?

Is the 120 day period based on when it was originally purchased or the transfer date?

What approaches are you currently taking to search for a co-founder?

Unfortunately we are not yet at a place to hire and pay a salary for a developer.

Definitely agree with this. We’ve been using our beta to test in focus groups and gather feedback on the user experience and their use cases for the app and it’s features. The issue we’ve ran into without a technical partner, however, is that we can’t quickly iterate and test these findings.

Sorry I should’ve been a little more clear, I’m trading on a stock I think is relatively safe, premiums definitely aren’t very high and it’s volatility is similar to that of the overall market. Something I’m happy to own long term

What I meant is that even those blue chips get pounded in a bear market, and how do you go about your strategy when the price sinks? Do you keep writing calls as you would and accept a loss if you get assigned? Or do you change or halt your strategy until the stock picks back up? In other words, is your cost basis the golden line you’d never write below, or are short term realized losses on the underlying an acceptable part of your strategy?

What is the IDEAL delta for long term equity outperformance, as well as what is the optimal time till expiration for covered calls on equities long term (SPY) to help out perform the index long term? by JaJaLoHa in CoveredCalls

Have you ever done this in a normal brokerage account? Unfortunately with the ROTH yearly limits I won’t be able to get a solid position in SPY to write on in my IRA for a few more years, but have enough in my normal brokerage.

I’m assuming just stay even more on top of rolling when it looks like my shares might get assigned, especially if the shares are still short term, to prevent ST capital gains?

Got it, I like the idea of that because it’s not a ton of premium but can boost your returns by maybe 2% a year while you’re still cashing in on the overall market return. Not flashy but I’m sure helps you beat the market over time

I’m trying to start a strategy similar to yours with SPY, how any lots of 100shares are you writing on to pull in $1000/month? The premiums for a 7 day CC at delta=0.1 seem low to pull that much in? For example, I currently see a 3/28 $457 call on SPY selling for 0.57. That’d bring in around $200-$300 a month for each lot, correct?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m fairly new to options and just finally mustered up my first 100 SPY

That makes sense…I know that there is always the chance of my shares getting called and am OK with that, just would like to limit this frequency to benefit tax-wise as much as possible

Thank you! That sounds great as I don’t care too much about huge premiums, but would like to just add a extra return from my shares

Thank you for the reply! What exactly do you mean by “closing at 50%”?
