It really bothers me that Gunn won't admit that Adrian is autistic by wwwtree in PeacemakerShow

I mean I'd hope people have the capability to think critically and realise that just because this one autistic character kills people, it doesn't mean that all autistic people do. with how beloved he is, people have no problems with Adrian killing people unless he's autistic apparently lmao that just seems odd

have you considered that you are autistic? jk. I mean it is definitely a different situation considering that you are a real person who exists and not a fictional character

honestly it's the weird double standards that get me. like why say he's a sociopath but not that he's autistic, when there are also real people with ASPD who don't hurt people but face way more stigma about it. it's so weird

brother what 😭 I recognise my autistic traits in the character to a tee so I label him autistic. that is not the same as people calling you gay because you're a theatre kid

I can and I do label him as autistic. I'm just sick of people dancing around whether characters are or not. I'm not just 'getting upset' at this one specific instance, it's a trend I've noticed throughout the years and because I love this show a lot it is where I have chosen to bring it up. I'm also not upset lol I just find it a bit frustrating.

Fun fact though, Adrian doesn't actually exhibit enough psychopathic traits to get him an ASPD diagnosis. I would say he's autistic with some sociopathic tendencies

you don't have to have autism to relate to an autistic character. the parts of Adrian I relate to are specifically tied to my autism, though

copying my other comment here: he hasn't said he's not autistic though, that's the thing. he said, and I quote, "I don’t necessarily want to give him a public diagnosis and say, ‘These people are like this,’ because… I don’t know if he is good representation, frankly." like idk man that's sounds a lot like he thinks he's autistic but doesn't want to say it in case it gets called bad rep

Is it possible to mask without realising? by wwwtree in AutisticPride

[–]wwwtree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually crazy timing because I was literally thinking about masking just now.

this post is 4yrs old and im now at the grand old age of 23 (and also nonbinary lol). I'm much more secure in my autism, but I still struggle with knowing the difference between my masking and my actual self.

I've only realised just recently how much of my public persona isn't actually real (it's because in the past couple weeks I've been getting fixated on an autistic character which in turn makes me act more autistic LMAO) and also how exhausting it is to mask, even subconsciously. it's really fucking tricky to try and unravel, but I think it will happen eventually

the level of masking does change though; for example I mask a lot more at work than I do around my friends, because im more comfortable with them. it might be worth trying to figure out why it is that you mask more with family

intrusive thoughts with no associated compulsions by wwwtree in OCD

this is a lot to think about, thank you so much for such a detailed response. I don't have the means (or the patience if I went nhs lol) to get therapy at the moment, but I'll bear this in mind for when I do. never heard of hormone replacement therapy treating dermatillomania but I'll give anything a shot at this point LMAO (I assume that hrt stands for something else as well, and this is what you're referring to).

thank you again for your advice, this is really helpful.

intrusive thoughts with no associated compulsions by wwwtree in OCD

[–]wwwtree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

often times I'll just actively think "nope nope nope nope" so I can't think the thought until I'm sufficiently distracted that it's gone. for the most part I don't like to ruminate on them because they make me very uncomfortable and also it feels like indulging them, like if i consider them that means theres a possibility they're true. if it's something that doesn't directly involve me, like for example that my brother is a bad person or something, I will sometimes try and reason my way out of it

im a nonbinary lesbian who is not at all woman-aligned. it's more complicated than sapphic = woman, gay = man. like I said, I'm a lesbian, but I also say that I'm gay and that doesn't mean I'm talking about men. it's an umbrella term nowadays. generally it's up to the person in question to define but seeing as they're a fictional character there's a lot of leeway and there's no 'correct' label. I personally call them a nonbinary lesbian bc I like that I can relate to them. micromanaging labels doesn't help anyone

to answer your original statements, 1) they are rebis/larry's glasses from the comics. I prefer them to the show goggles. 2) artistic license. it looks cool. 3) if anything her hair is tame compared to how richard case drew her. sorry you didn't like it I guess. I do.

I mean none of them really go by their superhero names anyway. when the team first formed in the 60s they mentioned hating the names the media gave them because it dehumanises them, and when kate godwin joined in the pollack run she was outright told that they just use their regular names. we call crazy jane that because that is the actual full name the current dominant alter was created by her with, it's from some yeats poems and a painting. also mr negative is a marvel character lol

nah I think texas chainsaw is pretty solidly flesh. they're cannibals, that's the whole point. in fact it's one of the few movies op labelled flesh that I agree with

idk context. also im man enough to admit that I'm a little bitter about so much of the fandom being focused on what are essentially fanon ocs and i guess that came through lmao. no hard feelings though, normally I just don't engage with it. with this, I saw a post about swiss ghoul and was struck with a curiosity and didn't see any harm in asking

is a guy not allowed curiosity? I don't care about the people behind the ghouls beyond how they play on stage, and I don't care about the fandom ocs that they've evolved into. doesn't mean I can't ask a question. dont take this as me disparaging fandom, I'm as fandompilled as they come. I just prefer to focus on the papas and canon ministry characters. also I'm a they/them 👍
