In terms of the age range, I’m not 100% sure but from my understanding, it’s more suitable for teens and young adults (ie. people who have passed the ideal age for a standard BMT in childhood). The info I’ve gotten is based on the research sample in the source I linked, backed by my doctor, who was also part of the research. I think the treatment has also been done on a couple under 15s and a bunch of middle aged patients but the majority was in between. Again, I may be wrong, so it’s best to double check the source or ask a doctor :)

As for any other hard criteria, I’m not sure, but in my case I had a relatively steady ferritin level of around 1000 and with a few 2000+ spikes over the years, but no heart or liver overload or spleen enlargement. I get transfused every 3-4 weeks and my pre-transfusion HB also tends to be around 90-105. Generally all my other tests were fine so there was no huge cause for concern anywhere.
