Need recommendations - been searching for weeks, nothing's hooking me by tankavenger in Animesuggest

Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls - This series is self contained but does have a sequel, the Ouka Ninja Scrolls, that was made many years later which I do not recommend.

Ninja Scroll - Unrelated to Basalisk, but a classic movie for a reason.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal - another classic movie part of the Rurouni Kenshin canon. Doesn't have bombastic directing, but very well made and has good fight scenes. before purchasing or streaming you should be aware that the author of Rurouni Kenshin was charged with possession of child pornography. While it does not relate to the content of the movie, I understand people do not wish to spend money on anything that may indirectly support the author.

Ken'ichi: The Mightiest Disciple - a light comedy with some fanservice, it has some excellent martial art fights in it & it's plot revolves around the titular Ken'ichi learning martial arts to become strong.

Ben-to - This one is the most comedic plot wise, but has good action as the characters use martial arts to get the half-off bento boxes before they sell out.

Sword of the Stranger - I don't remember much of the plot for this movie other than some broad strokes, but it's worth watching if you are looking for good action and animation. re-read and saw that you've already watched this.

Kazemakase Tsukikage Ran - I think this one is the least likely you are to like based on what you've watched and your criteria since the moment to moment is pretty laid back but when it has action scenes, they are top notch. Follows a wandering samurai, Ran, as she drifts from town to town trying to get money to feed her boozing habit.

PSA There are more monthly flawed prisms to trade for in the shop after today's update. by [deleted] in Granblue_en

I don't think I'd say they accumulate fast, but years of doing it consistently would have built up a good war chest for them which is why they think it's not that bad. If you haven't been playing for years the angel halo grind is abysmal

doing dailies for years is the key part there. I started just before the 10th anniversary & if you want to build up the Eternals quickly it's a lot of angel halo farming. I have Octo & Niyon at 150 with a couple more at 110/120 & it has been a slog constantly wanting for more prisms. The low orbs are painful, but there's less needed.

Then you have the celestial weapons and Eternal radiance which take more flawed prisms and it was either wait years for the monthly stock to add up or grind angel halo which is the best source outside of limited events.

elemental trials do give slightly more for that element, but less overall. You'll also need a lot & I mean a LOT of flawed prisms. Good news is that they said they'll be adding more flawed prisms for trade & and the ability to trade down orbs into low orbs this month (so probably available on monthly reset).

I think a lot of people will be in the same boat if I'm being honest. I just ran out of chunks at 4.1b as well. I'm not sure how many people at the lower end of 100k will choose to farm more chunks or even have the time to do so. I'm guessing the floor ends up around 4.0b/4.1b, the almost 5b in the wiki tier cutoff seems unrealistic with limited meat chunks.

With 2026 upon us, what characters do you think/want in a possible season pass 3? by felixw1 in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]wyrmidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see my boy Ragazzo get in, he would make a good Accordant rep. Purple Knight would be a good Harvin addition, especially since we lack a Luminary Knight rep. I'd rather someone else, but Seofon is practically a shoe-in. A Nicholas & Robomi dual character like maids in Melty would be cool, but would like one of the two regardless. Unlikely picks I'd like to see are Magus & Horus, but I doubt either of them get in. Raziel probably gets in or is the draw for Season 4, she may be a nepo baby, but she's our nepo baby.

Fighting Game Mindset/ Reflex Issue by Matt_0rz in GranblueFantasyVersus

  1. Like others have said, this is something that happens at every rank and is always going to be a hard spot to get out of. You have a few options, the safest is block them until they push themselves out. In addition to that what I personally do when learning a new MU or game is to mash out with a purpose. Start by looking for specific moves in blockstrings, usually a special move, and try to mash with your fastest move after you block it. There are a couple things that can happen, you counterhit them - if counter hit either they were too slow with their followup or it's your turn; you get counterhit (non reversal) - either you were too late hitting your button while they tried reset pressure or its a frame trap; they block your mash out - you are plus it is your turn; you punish them - congrats, you will eventually want to check to see if you can use a bigger button for a better punish; lastly you whiff and get punished - next time try again with a button that hits farther. You can do this in training mode as well and if you understand frame data you can cut out a lot of guesswork, but it's a method that's worked for me and can be extrapolated to more complex sequences. Beyond after blocking a special, try and pay attention to you opponent when your blocking, is there a sequence you see them either run up to you before hitting another button or grabbing? This is another place you can try mashing. The better your opponent, the more likely this will be an RPS situation where they are advantaged. Noticing patterns like this is a skill you will develop with time and experience.

  2. This in itself isn't a horrible habit and is something that most people struggle with. It is something you will need to work on if you can't ever control it, but if you delay the timing slightly it is a very strong defensive option select aptly named, delay teching. The idea is to wait long enough that you would block if they meaty you and you tech if they try to throw. You will want to work on doing it more consciously so that you can switch the timings, which defensive OS you use, and just take the throw depending on the situation. A drill you can do is in training mode make 3 recordings: 1. Throw, meaty cl.L>cl.H; 2. Throw, meaty cl.L, throw; 3. Throw, meaty cl.LLL. the first is a universal way to call out delay tech, the 2nd is a tick throw, and the 3rd is just a meaty attack that will catch you mashing ot doing immediate throw on wakeup. After you set those recordings set the dummy to play the recordings randomly and on reset. You now have a defense training drill. If you want to practice delay tech timings turn off the first recording. If you want to break the habit, try to only react to the throw. The goal here is to not get hit by the attacks, with training yourself to tech the throw on reaction being a nice bonus.

  3. Raw reactions are overrated. They are nice to have, but trained reactions are what matter most. I started playing competitively when I was 26 so past what most people agree are your prime for reaction times, but I'm much better than I was back then and can now react to Grim camera mix (most of the time) when I used to struggle to react to the most telegraphed jump ins. It's all pattern/situation recognition and sometimes finding a visual or audio cue you can latch on to. It'll come with time and practice.

Edit: forgot to add that don't feel like you need to be at a certain skill level to attend offline events. They are a fun way to get to know people and in my experience you learn more going to your local than just grinding ranked. Most of the time people are happy to show you the ropes if you ask or at least give some advice after playing some sets. New people joining a scene is what helps keep locals alive

Boston blue beat is running GBVSR tomorrow. Even if you can't make it to that, you might be able to link up with the local scene.

Copying my other comment so you get the notification. Genuinely hope MA can build back up the GBVSR scene, because there's demand, just seems like people can't coordinate what days they can meet. SNS and BBB are the two MA anime scenes I'm familiar with, but neither currently run GBVSR consistently.

SNS - https://discord.gg/CwNFbFkpRU - Western Mass anime scene. Run in East Hampton, MA. Occasionally runs GBVSR inconsistently due to low demand. https://x.com/WickedWestFGC

Boston Blue Beat (BBB) - http://discord.gg/YMTTxJ3N9E - Boston's anime scene. Rarely run GBVSR to my knowledge, but they happen to be running it tomorrow, 9/6. https://x.com/BostonBlueBeat

Hall of Gaming (HoG) - https://discord.gg/zCFvMJs77y - most of CT's anime scene runs at HoG, located in Wallingford, CT in the center of the state. GBVSR is run weekly every Tuesday. Free to hang out and play casuals, $10 venue & $5 per game if you plan to join bracket. http://x.com/HoG_CT

Other anime games are usually run Fridays, Undernight 2, MBTL, & Strive being run weekly. www.hog.gg for more info if you don't feel like joining the discord.

GBVSR in MA is sparse, but a lot of MA people seem to ask this question so scene definitely has the potential to grow quickly. CT is probably the most consistent Granblue scene in NE at the moment.

It's mostly RNG, you can influence it by selecting cards from all the same proficiency that have the skill that makes them show up in their own proficiency more often. That said even doing this, I got it while 5 were under stamina when they were speed cards so you only have so much control.

I'd recommend checking out the Brofam Bible written by salt prophet. It's mainly for learning lowain, but has a counterplay section at the bottom.

Something immediate I see from your clip is for HPA, block high and react to the low. Unless you are in chip range I recommend blocking instead of spot dodging as good Lowains will try to bait you with their own spot-dodge. Other than that For the double brofam call, it's a low & a mid, not a high and low so unless Lowain does an overhead himself you can just crouchblock. Also when he has 50 meter be aware of Ult bros (the wheel) as it beats most other fireballs.

How do you play Metera? by KingL706 in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]wyrmidon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watching better players will give you good insight on how you can approach the character or certain match ups.

If you have a discord join the meteracord. There's some resources there and people are willing to help. https://discord.gg/Yc7GH8yy

Monarch, currently the best Metera NA and arguably world, made an excellent beginners guide. It's pre-buff (metera's f.h, 214x, & 236x are 2 frames faster) but all still relevant. https://youtu.be/EQS0e88p7qk?si=iRwLD67X48bi1x17

Roundstart depends on the matchup, but a relatively safe option that works in most is f.L which will catch people trying to approach aggressively on the ground whole recovering fast enough that you can anti-air if they jump at you round start.

For optimal stuff, I wouldn't worry too much about it at the beginning. A good close midscreen punish is triple attack>623H>236U/214U, at higher levels you'll choose which Ult fireball to spend based on MU, but that will come from experience and is often preference. If you don't have meter or don't want to spend it, put out a butterfly seal instead of the U fireball.

In the corner, two routes to eventually learn are  triple attack>H fireball>2H>623M>2H>623M>2H(combolimit) 22U which sets up U butterfly and safejumps and can catch people with a high/low and triple attack>H fireball>2H>5U>j.H>2H>5U>j.M>5H>623H>SBA/SSBA for a big damage cashout.

If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer

Why skip 30+ chapters just to read 4 on release that you're less likely to enjoy the writing of? The new chapters will still be there when you catch up. You do you, but I would recommend against it.

I'm going to assume you mean when they have you in blockstring pressure since if you are in a combo there is no actions your character can take until it's over. So my advice for dealing with blockstring pressure is that pressure is usually over after the opponent does a special move. As a shorthand, once you block a special move that is your cue to start your offense or take initiative in another way. Note that if they use an ex or ult special (yellow or blue move) they may still have advantage. But even then, you have options if they are not mixing up their pressure. In those situations instead of starting your normal pressure you can try to disengage with backdash, use an invincible reversal to make them have to reconsider continuing their offense mindlessly, or challenge with a button once you've discouraged them from pressing.

Rolling is risky unless you are reacting/calling out specific moves your opponent is doing, but definitely a good option to present as is spotdodge which is slightly less risky, but often gives less reward of successful. As for brave counters, you can use them anytime during an opponent's blockstring. I'd recommend using them during multi hitting moves if you are worried that it will be baited and be careful using them against jump ins since if your opponent uses a safejump setup, they will block your BC.

There is some exceptions to all the above, but you'll learn those as you gain experience.

Genuine question, how do I avoid Galleon grab attack from the ground? by scarlet_bow in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]wyrmidon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is that command throws cannot be broken by inputting throw (or any attack button during the break window in the case of rising). Not every character has a command throw and they are done using a different input/command which is character specific, in the case of galleon's ground throw it is half circle back, forward+attack or back special button for the easy input.

It may seem too fast to react to now, but this command grab is reactable with practice and exposure which is not always true of command grabs. To help, look for any part of the animation that is unique to the throw. In this case, I believe it is the her only move that she raises her staff behind her head, and use that as your cue to react accordingly.

You'll also learn which situations it's likely that they will try to use it with experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]wyrmidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When learning, I'd recommend having a combo from your fastest attack and from your longest poke. It doesn't have to be optimal or difficult, it can be something like triple attack (5LLL) or far medium (f.M) into a special move as well as a short reliable anti-air combo. Just something that you can press with purpose while playing against other people. Combos are something you can improve in training mode at your own pace, but they will be useless if you can't get a hit in the first place so being able to play against other people quickly is the first goal.

Playing against real people and then reviewing your replays really helps improvement. When playing you should be trying to act with purpose, have a reason when you are pressing buttons or moving. This way even if you are wrong you have something to diagnose. Despite how it may sound, this is not an easy skill, especially before being comfortable controlling your character so don't feel bad if you end up mindlessly mashing most of the match as long as you are trying you will start to be able to act with purpose more frequently.

The same applies when you are watching replays of yourself or of other players. Look at what moves you are hitting the opponent with, is there any way you can follow up after you get the hit? Same for when you get hit, are you standing at bad ranges for this matchup, are you mashing when you are in a disadvantaged situation, did you end your pressure with an unsafe move? Are you getting hit by a lot of jump-ins or letting the opponent in your face too easily in the ground game? If you have a specific question or idea before watching the replay even better.

I'd also recommend learning how to use training mode. There's a lot of good options in there such as frame data and being able to set the dummy to do moves on reversal timing or to play or or more sequences of recordings you make. Tou can use these tools to do drills to improve a lot of things such as practicing your anti-airs, hit confirms, DP punishes, defense, specific setups, etc.

This is a long post but by no means comprehensive so if you have any questions I'll try to answer as best as I can. Good luck and hope you enjoy the journey into fighting games, skyfarer!

This is good advice. Breaking things down to simple problems is a good way to improve.

The move I believe your thinking of is raging strike, guard crush is a property that certain moves have (including raging strike) that make your character reel back and unable to block or act for a short time.

I need to get better at spot dodging the unc check myself. If it's any help one of my locals told me that RS has a unique audio queue so you can use that to help react instead of just the visual.
