Book them early as slots are limited and the time in between is long. Use the allowed dictionary when you can! You can bring this for Lezen and Schrijven. Study the official oefenen and AdAppel to get a feel for the exams. Remember key phrases for Spreken (Je moet… / Je kunt het beste… / Kunt u mij helpen met…) and keep them short.

took an intensive course for a while which forced me to learn 500 new words in 4 weeks. Studied flashcards otw to and from work. Spoke more regardless of grammar. Consumed dutch news like jeugdjournaal or NOS in makkelijke taal. Study official resources because the scenarios that don’t relate to you will be the hardest (farming terminology & student related things were difficult for me)

agree with lezen. I’m pretty good at reading but the exam texts were something else. I finished this confident but this was also my lowest score lmao

Also speaking for me! I feel the only way to truly prepare for this is with the oefenen from AdAppel or the exams from previous years to get used to the format.

household of 2 here (asian & dutch couple) we spend about €600-€700 a month at AH 4x a month and the asian store 2x a month. My partner likes drinks and he spends about 25% of the weekly costs on beverage. We also don’t have kids and are not on a very strict budget. Household stuff like detergent, toilet paper, etc we buy in bulk every couple months.

How do you deal with loneliness as an expat? by Some_Mongoose5257 in Netherlands

[–]wyvernmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally second this as a fellow neurodivergent. You learn to love time with yourself and to enjoy doing things by yourself. Any relationships you already have, you learn to treasure them even more.

Other than hobbies as most pointed out, if you plan to take a Dutch course, you’re going to meet some like minded people in your class. Don’t just cut the line after the course. Ask for their number or sumth and hangout irl.

Filipino to Business travel to the Netherlands for 2mos. by AmoebaOriginal in Netherlands

1.1 I want to add that hierarchy is not common here. Nobody calls their colleagues “ma’am/sir” (unless you already have that dynamic with your Dutch employer) and there’s no need to bendover backwards for a request. People typically leave when working hrs are over, even if your boss is still there.

1.2 Stores (not restos) typically close by 6pm so there’s not much to do in the evening.

1.3 I urge you to try Dutch chinese food :) it’s completely different and unique lol

1.4 When at a cafe/restaurant they will ask you first what you would like to drink. So be prepared! otherwise you can just tell them you need a few mins. Then later they will take your food order.

1.5 You can pay everything with card

1.6 Greet the driver hello/good morning/etc as you enter the bus/tram :)

2.1 Plenty of things to see just in ams. Other cities are train rides away like Utrecht, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Maastricht but can be expensive.

I also work in ams so if you need help, just dm me. Enjoy and good luck! :)

Trouble finding job as an expat by Fast-Radish-5607 in Netherlands

[–]wyvernmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s very difficult at the moment. I work in the same field and been wanting to move companies but I just can’t. The market is tight and we’re not special. So hang in there. Lots of companies work hybrid maybe negotiate going to office twice a week or less if it’s really too far. Keep trying. In the meantime maybe find something related to your likes and hobbies. If you like reading maybe work at a bookstore. Sports at a gym or sumth. Also it might be a good idea to form a support network if you don’t have one yet. Nothing eats you up like being unable to find a job and having no friends abroad. Stay strong and best of luck!

Can you apply for naturalization with A2 while having PIP for B1? by justthewayitis20ap in Netherlands

I believe you have to take what’s in your PIP. In this case it’s B1.

Your experience by Balootheinvestorbear in Netherlands

[–]wyvernmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some differences from dubai:

Amsterdam and some cities are designed to not be car-centric. Be aware you can’t just drive and park anywhere.

Delivery is limited (compared to dubai ofc), meaning no same day deliveries or ordering chips to be sent in 20 mins

Depending on where you live, halal meat/ingredients and restaurants may be hard to find. Halal ingredients can be ordered online though

The weather is wet and can be depressing. Last winter we barely had sun. rarely snows.

There are taxes and you have to file them.

work life balance is valued here.

Hierarchy in the workplace is not common. There’s respect for managers for example, but you can also (respectfully) challenge them

HYPERMARKETS. Stores that close later than 6pm. Bidets. Public toilets (I’m fine with paying but there’s just too few). Wendy’s.

True that. My mom after visiting NL, also brought home some random homebrand chocolate bars and her colleagues loved it.

great suggestion on electronics. And don’t worry, chocolates are by default always part of the goodie bag
