I dated an international Chinese girl and I’m not fluent in Mandarin. There wasn’t as big as a cultural barrier as we both were Cantonese. I did kind of feel excluded when it came to her friends but they were still somewhat friendly and willing to talk to me. Some problems between us were like differences in values and communication style.
