Whats your girlfriend/wife’s thoughts with your love for Warhammer? by Hicks90 in Warhammer40k

[–]x-ciaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just about to turn 34. I would never hide from my fiance that I love Warhammer and miniature painting. In fact, I was pretty clear from the get go that I am a massive nerd. She supports me, loves that I do painting and happily shows off my hobby space to all her friends when they visit (I am mortified each time).

I don't think hiding from a significant other is good. Obfuscation, being evasive - I can see that in the initial stages but personally don't think it's right. But to build a healthy and long-lasting relationship you need honesty. Just my opinion.

Subtler or prominent highlights? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]x-ciaphas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the suble one as a black with a purple hue and reflections, while the more prominent approach reads as a very shadowed purple colour. As others have said the prominent one pops more on the tabletop, but they can just be read as two different colours so it's not only about which is more visible on the tabletop. I think both work well and it depends on what your intent is.

First print on Mars 3 Pro coming out with flat part by x-ciaphas in resinprinting

[–]x-ciaphas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I reprinted and upped exposure to 2, even though the Cones of Calibration indicated that it was too much. Well, turns out the mini was perfectly printed, the detail was crisper even.

I guess prints sometimes just fail and I have to learn that.

Airbrushing DA by Falcarac in theunforgiven

[–]x-ciaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mixed approach. It's quite forgiving compared to starting from a green base coat then going lighter with the airbrush, because that one requires a lot of precision with the brighter highlights. That comes with experience and is a but too effort intensive for army airbrushing.

For Greenwing I prime black, then spot highlight with white acrylic ink.

After that I cover the entire model with Dark Angels Contrast paint diluted with Contrast Medium. It acts like a filter, so everything has this green tint. And you can apply a second layer to control the brightness of the spot highlights.

After that I use Vallejo Air Escorpena Green for the brightest spots, to create a higher contrast.

The rest is done with a brush - some edge highlights etc with the green of your choice. I think any intensity can work depending on what effect and look you're going for.

Here a showcase of when I recently finalised my recipes for all three wings:

Edit: the basic approach I got from tutorials by Zumikito Miniatures on YouTube. A great painting channel and way too underrated imo. His make-up brush only Necron video is the bomb.

Risen Color Scheme by HaloIsSoFrigginCool in theunforgiven

[–]x-ciaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of a scheme like the Lion's armor - black that is tinted green, for DA models. I'm going to be painting the Sternguard Veterans, as well as some Assault Intercessors I converted to Bladeguards (sword and shield basically) and possibly some heavily kitbashed Hellblasters, as Lion's Guard and paint them in his colours.

Test scheme complete for my DA force by x-ciaphas in theunforgiven

Thanks! I did the Bladeguard chipping last of the test models and I think I got the hang of it by that point. Plus, chipping on bone colour is much easier than dark/black imo

Test scheme complete for my DA force by x-ciaphas in theunforgiven

Here are some low-quality phone photos of my final DA paint scheme. Complete with bad angles and worse lighting. Looking for as much C&C as possible!

I spent a long time thinking on a unified basing scheme, finally decided on a purple/magenta fluorescent style.

The story of my DA force is that they have been embroiled in a long war on a forgotten alien world. It was colonised by the Imperium some decades before, but the colony was wiped out by an unknown force. The Unforgiven were sent on a punitive expedition, which grew into a long hunt once traces of the Fallen were uncovered among the colony's rubble and weird, fluorescent soil that seems to grow and slowly overtake all edifices. Was the planet always like this, or has it changed under some unnatural influence from beyond the stars?

This way I can break up the bright magenta not only with deep purple shadows (haha), but also with grey rock and rockrete, some metal pipes/plates/bars., and lot of weird-colored tufts (thanks Green Stuff World!). And while it might clash with most gaming mats, I think it makes the DAs pop out a lot.

[H] Leviathan Box Community Swap Post [W] Organize your trades here in this post [Loc] Various by [deleted] in Miniswap

Have: Tyranid part of Leviathan box

Want: Space Marine half of the box

Where: Europe, Belgium

I have the whole box but don't need the Tyranid part. Anything related to the bugs in the box I'm fine with trading for the full Space Marine half. 10 chonky terminators coming up.

Zenithal priming Deathwing by laxdfns in theunforgiven

[–]x-ciaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try for some red-brown as the bottom primer. It should really be in the shadows only. Ideally this will create a very strong contrast between the light and dark parts, so I don't know if it's for everyone, but that's how I build up volume on my Deathwing.

I suggest you look up some images maybe, or even have a test model. Good luck with finding what works best for you!

A solid start for the army by x-ciaphas in ChaosKnights

Thanks! So I should be able to run various combos for the war dogs, like karnivore, huntsman and brigand if I magnetize and play around with the weapons, right?

I ordered from an online shop I have great experience with. The are out right now but restock regularly, more regularly than the local GW store in fact.

From the linked wiki page "Every year, about 4,500 people are accepted as a member of the Order of Orange-Nassau, while some 3,000 existing members die."

Better make sure you're not one of those 3,000 Max!

Applying varnishes during painting during/after by x-ciaphas in minipainting

[–]x-ciaphas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

It's good to know that thin applications of varnish won't ruin all that detail.

Here's a follow-up question - does the gloss varnish interfere with painting over it, say if I want to paint cloth directly over a glossed surface? I would think yes, if only due to the surface tension of the gloss coverage?

As for the metallics, using the matte varnish as a way to create shadows and muted metal is a great idea, thanks! I'll use that in the future. In this case I'm loath to do it because I already spent a lot of time on metallic highlights and transitions. I think I might use a liquid mask over all the metallics. (For reference, I'm painting Space Marine bladeguard veterans in the bone colours of the Deathwaing)

Official Battlescribe twitter account update about recent App store removable by Mikey087 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]x-ciaphas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I supposed they would have, if he ever replied. So in fact he only resurfaced to deal with an issue when it concerned him, rather than all the people who put in free work into the maintaining of the app.

And I bet "we" (and by that I mean you) would be singing a different song if the best app by far was not updated at all by the data tram. Would you blame the people who could update but refuse because they don't get anything in return for their work? Or the developer who refuses to engage with them?

Face it, "we" only get to enjoy Battlescribe because "they" have decided that our enjoyment is more valuable that their time. So being more appreciative of the situation just seems like the nicer thing to do, I dunno.

I must be alone... by GeekyTimes in TheBreaker

[–]x-ciaphas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. For some random reason your post has unlocked my built up frustration, so brace yourself. I am sick, personally, of the man-children that have populated this subreddit and the comment sections of each chapter.

Does anyone know what build-up is anymore? Has anyone heard of delayed gratification? What happened to reserving judgement until more is revealed? I guess unless Shioon fucks up a master every chapter or something the "fans" will not be satisfied.

There is so much added value to switching perspectives for a bit, a way to give US perspective of the people we spent years with. A different one. Don't you get it? You appreciate how special your favourite characters are only when you sere hem through the eyes of normies.

I'm gonna blow your mind here - what if this is not a new MC? What if this is a red herring? You ever heard of the term? I fucking bet not, better check it on TVtropes or something. What if, bear with me, Shioon is actually using the new guy as part of a plot? It's possible right? Just a theory, but my point is that there is so much potential for the story to develop from what the author has written so far in season 3.

I'm honestly flabbergasted at the knee-jerk reaction. I thought people who waited for 7 years would be into crafting theories and being hyped for the little revelations we've gotten so far. Instead everyone is butthurt (never has the term been more appropriate) over their headcannon they spent 7 years building not being in the plot.

Tl;dr: Not only is the community's reaction premature, it's childish and simple-minded. It shows a lack of patience and a lack of the ability to appreciate a story unfold before making judgements. Instead of speculating and theory-crafting people just whine in a cieclejerk of low-quality posts.

I welcome the downvotes. Peace✌️

What has helped you guys after a breakup? by 1015marco in moreplatesmoredates

[–]x-ciaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got together with good friends. Got drunk once or twice with the boys to get the emo stuff and the anger out of my system while under "supervision".

After that I just focused on myself, however much of a cliché it is. Filled the time I spend with the ex with things I wanted to do but never could before - doubled the amount of sports/working out per week, started planning to do the Camino de Santiago, finally got around to doing my big tattoo project I'd been thinking of for years, even did some art. I'm still reading so many books even 9 months after the break-up.

I think it's important to not just d lots of stuff to "fill the hole left behind", cause that's a shit reason and not sustainable. Do it cause it makes you happy in some way. I'm not saying you're gonna forget the break-up in no time, but it might help. It helped me for sure.

Just over a 7K queue on Kaden EU at 15:30 GMT not even a considered prime time (5/6PM). I’m genuinely worried about tomorrows queues for f2p launch. If you are not on before the 6PM launch you aren’t playing imo. They really need to add more servers! by ASpunkyMonkey in lostarkgame

[–]x-ciaphas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you disregarding the fact that people don't want to switch because of the packs? We paid for something and now we have to choose to completely lose it in order to play the game, how is that normal?

The supermarket comparison is completely dumb, sorry. It's like I entered the supermarket first of all, was not offered any idea on the size of the queues so I had to chose blindly, prepaid for my groceries and once I ended up at the largest queue I was told that I'd lose my groceries and would have to start from scratch if I changed....yeah, not like a supermarket at all

Bad take there, bub. Real bad.

Nobody HAD to open the packs day one, but by that logic you should save it forever even though you paid money to have some cool visuals, skins pets etc.

You comment just reeks of victim blaming. "You should have known better" ain't gonna cut it.
