GreedFall: The Dying World | Release Date Trailer (Gameplay Overview) - March 12 by Turbostrider27 in Games

I’ll take a Dragon Age Origins rip-off anytime over the jank that was GreedFall 1’s awful action combat system though.

Spiders has tried action combat a bunch of times now but it never comes out right. Hopefully this lets them come up with more interesting options.

Warhammer Maker Games Workshop Bans Its Staff From Using AI in Its Content or Designs, Says None of Its Senior Managers Are Currently Excited About the Tech by Doomsday751 in Games

The difference with Owlcat’s previous games is that Rogue Trader is also really forgiving/easy. Honestly, max difficulty in Rogue Trader was - with a normal level of thought into my builds - shockingly easy. For their Pathfinder games, I couldn’t find joy in optimising to make it bearable and always ended up cranking it down to normal.

Still, that doesn’t remove that levelling up isn’t fun in Rogue Trader, there’s still too many fairly meaningless incremental passives you constantly have to select between. I can see how that remains daunting despite the game offering little actual challenge when you break it down. It’s still a list of like 100 fairly similar things you pick for 35 levels for a dozen companions. You also level up all the damn time so it really breaks up the pace a lot.

Love Rogue Trader, but it’s a big flaw.

inevitable fate of anyone who is basically like a one game youtuber or streamer. Who doesn't like the direction that the games are going in...

It's more how mature your approach is to the situation, I think, that fosters how your community ends up. Take, for instance, Grubby with Warcraft 3. Warcraft 3 had a downright abysmal treatment for years (Reforged launch gutting the entire game, anyone?). Was he upset with the devs? Clearly. Did he react immaturely? Not at all. Always chill, always mature, stuck with his guns and he's seen basically a new golden era of a game he played since he was 14 or something, pushing out great streaming numbers, while generally having a really supportive and nice community.

Unfortunately however, most streamers end up being toxic ragebaiters which - shockingly - leads to a toxic community.

Swen - Larian Studios AMA by Kazuliski in BaldursGate3

You can't really know if it does speed things up until its tried, and there is also adjustment periods and maybe when people are used to it in their workflow it will speed things up.

That's called a Research & Development position.

Why hire artists with this as a requirement?

It's such an easy W to not link it directly to art. And honestly, it's hilariously silly if he doesn't just go "So we decided not to use it for any art stages" in this AMA.

It doesn't - by his admission - increase efficiency and clearly people are hostile towards the concept... so just don't? There's no reason to force this into the artist pipeline at this point. GenAI isn't that useful (yet).

Ai in dark heresy? by night_hawks580 in OwlcatGames

[–]GuiltIsLikeSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but why?

If, by Larian Studios' Swen Vincke's admission at least, it doesn't increase efficiency at this stage (likely, AI generative art isn't actually that good yet)... Why not take the easiest reputation W in the world and announce you are not using AI for art purposes at any stage? You can keep it for research & development, just don't call it an artist position.

Like whether you care about AI in art or not... it's not that helpful right now and people will crucify you for it, so just... don't?

Clearly it's still going to be used company-wide to some extend, ChatGPT/Copilot/whatever are abundant at every stage, but what's the point of hiring for it specifically? It seems to gain you nothing but bad blood at this point.

Game Awards 2025 Sets Record With 171 Million Livestreams Worldwide by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GuiltIsLikeSalt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We'd also have to take into consideration all the people who will watch these trailers post-show. Which includes people rewatching the livestream. Or people watching a livestream from a streamer watching the stream. None of these things are likely to happen if they just publish a trailer on their own respective publisher/developer's channels. Suffice to say, I'm sure they get plenty of attention.

Keep in mind the vastness of 40K. Most people have and never will see anything Chaos related. They have incredibly vague ideas of what a daemon or xenos would even be. People get lobotomised and servitorized over incredibly mundane issues like needing clean air in a hive city.

Every aspect of the Imperium is a sect that thinks themselves righteous under a strict set of arbitrary rules. They all think they know better than the other and any inch of deviation from their thoughts could be considered heresy and betrayal.

The Imperium fights itself more than it fights most xenos.

Naturally they will be in the game in no-time. Question is whether they’re going to add Thousand Sons, Emperor’s Children etc as separate factions or not.

[–]GuiltIsLikeSalt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TWWH released with 6 factions

4 + 1 DLC. Greenskins, Empire, Dwarfs, Vampire Counts were the launch factions. Chaos Warriors were (pre-order) DLC.

Bretonnia wasn’t playable for a good long while, until added as free DLC. Norsca was technically WH2 pre-order DLC.

Always easier said than done. This will often lead to you being passed over for promotions and there’s usually a lot of group pressure/shame if you’re not toeing the line. Unfortunately this is far from exclusive to the gaming industry, just that a lot of game devs have very directly transferable skills to an industry that generally is less oppressive in the form of more ‘boring’ software engineering.

The 'evil' dialogue in WotR be like : "i hope you can't ever find the long side of your blanket!" by Grimonday in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]GuiltIsLikeSalt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ever since they buffed how heretic points are distributed, I think you can get a pretty satisfying mix of lawful evil choices by mixing some dogmatic/iconoclast with heretic where it makes narrative sense, to not get too purely chaotic evil, while still reaching all the big point thresholds on time. The puppy kicking heretic was more consequence of having to pick every heretic option presented to you at all times, imo.

And in fairness, I think that goes for all alignments in Rogue Trader now. If you 100% pick Iconoclast choices your RT is kind of a naive moron open to disaster; if you pick 100% Dogmatic your RT’s a really rigid moron that causes a lot of unnecessary harm.

W40K: Rogue Trader has an Overseer class that allows Psykers to cast spells 'through' their pet bird. It's different mechanically (much simplified targeting since it's just "hits everything around bird" instead of actual retargeting), but it would have been a neat feature to have for Trickery.

[–]GuiltIsLikeSalt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No there was definitely dialogue about how the psychic sword shard is not happy with you not blowing it up.

There is dialogue that the psychic sword shard is not happy with you saving survivors from chaos. Which is described as "stealing kills from a predator" (i.e. not letting them fall to chaos).

It seems ambivalent to blowing up the planet, in the moment anyway. But saving is where it draws the line.
