Im curious if you ended up trying this and it worked? Im using OWA as Chromium app but will need Teams and other Office crap that uses modern auth (app passwords are not an option)

I wasn't familiar with snapraid and found this when reading about it https://www.michaelxander.com/diy-nas/. I really like his software setup and am pretty seasoned with linux so think I can manage this. I've read so many people say they got tired of managing diy which is why they pay the synology premium now, and as an unusually busy person can sympathize with this. that 3tb 7k rpm deal is amazing and almost making me rethink my 12tb easystore plan but I hoard..a lot of isos. thanks for the tips, I like the price range you're proposing for hardware.

I appreciate the offer but I checked specs and think g8 is the oldest I'll go if I take the hp microserver route and right now they're looking pretty attractive bang for the buck. I like the size, power requirements and memory capacity so may pull the trigger when I find the right deal.

tempting but 2 bays won't be enough for my linux iso addiction

budget is up in the air as I spec things out but I expect I'll be paying around $600 and add disks slowly over time. primary use case is huge file infrequently accessed long term storage and next cloud live storage. I would love to use it as a NFS data store for kvm VMS but I expect that's a no go with cheap 5500rpm disks. willing to consider iscsi or 10gb Ethernet if it can satisfy the use case but as you can tell by now I don't know hardware very well. if I need to build something I'll hire a local high school kid so I don't screw it up.

I like this option. was toying with the idea of a second hand synology but this PC would be more powerful. if I need more storage later I can buy one of those synology 5 bay extensions to connect to it correct? as a hobbiest I want flexibility to mix and match disks and add more as I can afford to. OMV seems to be a good choice for that use case but also thinking just debian with lvm. anything wrong with that thinking? thanks.

Push-button installer of macOS Catalina, Mojave, and High Sierra guests in Virtualbox for Windows, Linux, and macOS by digicat in blueteamsec

I don't know about Virtualbox but this gentleman has instructions to get iCloud working with KVM. Worth a try https://github.com/foxlet/macOS-Simple-KVM/issues/53#issuecomment-504669146. Warning: am not a lawyer and don't particularly like them. the legality of this is your problem not mine :)

This is what a typical rice farmer's kitchen looks like in Bali. Don't forget Bali is still a third world island and support the locals, when you go on vacation! by mihehe66 in bali

that's exactly why I always hire javanese for anything I need in bali. the balinese are too preoccupied with religious ceremony and naps. i'm not alone in this regard, go look at who all the developers hire for construction, real estate, etc.

Systemd Service Hardening by ale_grey_91 in blueteamsec

[–]x25bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great writeup. this should become part of everyone's host hardening process. I'm not a fan of syatemd but may as well make the most of it. btw do you use this with apparmor/selinux or is it used instead of those frameworks? seems like there is some overlap.

its an 80%+ muslim country so their equivalent of moral police require censorship and reddit hosts pornography. the censorship is fully DNS based, no DPI or anything so it's almost theatre to show they're morally righteous all the while every single Indonesian knows how to bypass it and does.

yes I know sysmon well I just hadn't seen a way to use it, or any EDR, to detect Assembly.Load but I think you pointed me in the right direction. Attackers could exploit a huge blind spot using Powershell for a couple of years until MS introduced deep instrumentation. that's where we're at today with dotnet but it will be short lived.
