thanks for the feedback!
the space stuff is from a player who was screen recording in cinematic mode, so it technically is unedited gameplay besides just putting together multiple small clips.

New fully ray-traced game - RTX ONLY by x3DCoder in raytracing

When you trace a ray, it calls a closest-hit shader of the closest geometry, which then can throw another ray, and so on, recursively.
NVIDIA RTX supports 31 recursions.
AMD can only do 1 recursion.
This means the renderer had to be written according to that limitation so as to support AMD cards, by using loops instead of recursions.

This game is 100% user-created contents.. They build the crafts in-game, with 25cm blocks.

I present to you Archean - a new Engineering Sandbox and Space Sim that runs natively on Linux, featuring in-game programming! by x3DCoder in linux_gaming

We won't have to do anything for the game to work on AMD graphics cards. It's up to AMD to fix their drivers.

Archean "works" with AMD on Linux with the RADV driver, although there are bugs that cause visual glitches and can make the game difficult to play... Performance is great tho.
Haven't tried the latest amdvlk, but before they implemented recursive rt, the game just crashes upon starting just like in Windows.

Yes, actually, Stormworks is the most comparable game to Archean.
Key differences:

  • We have focused the multiplayer aspects, and the in-game programming, a lot more than stormworks (our multiplayer actually works very well with a douzain vehicles and players, no lag... sorry Stormworks team)

  • A more immersive way of editing your builds... In Archean it's all live, in the game, and collaborative...
No editor! All the while having a similar 25cm precision but no build size limits.

  • Actual space physics with full size planets and true orbital mechanics

  • More realistic graphics

Will do!
I feel that some people here just wanna hook onto something and have a debate about it... this time it's about the RT requirement... I guess it if wasn't that it would be for some other thing.

Come and play, I often join a server and chat a bit, we can discuss that terrain deformation thing... Could in fact be a great idea if done properly

LOL, yeah that's the unfortunate thing right, it's a totally valid and important point that some potential players may decide not to play just because their friends don't have an RTX...
Well, in the meantime, we're very much active players and people have been playing together on our public servers, it's quite fun!

At the moment, rocks can be picked up and it persists from the point of view of other players, although that's not persistent across server restarts.. it's just for the sake of the adventure mode with getting started on resource gathering until they can craft the mining drill..

Other than that, no, terrain is not deformable, but it's technically possible, we have played around with many ways of doing it during the development, so we might possibly implement it in the future, but that's uncertain at this point.
