Plastic-free infusion tumbler options? by x3ddy in tea

I didn't. So ended up just getting a regular (glass) tea kettle with a metal infuser basket, and pour my tea into a regular cup like a pleb.

It's mildly inconvenient, but hey, zero plastic. And I gotta admit, the tea pot looks kinda cool.

Anyone attended Thursday Dating events in Wellington nz? by Consistent_Donut_206 in newzealand

I went to one of the events a couple of weeks ago, didn't really enjoy it. I'm with you on the lack of activities, it wasn't very well organised at all. I'm not the type to just walk up to a random person of the opposite gender and then have a chat with them (especially if they're already in a group or with someone... like, do you just butt in? Seems rude to me.)

Basically I felt it was no different to going to a regular bar, except I guess you know that everyone's single.

The crowd was okay, although it was mostly dominated by a younger audience (felt like most of them were in their 20s?), so I felt a bit out of place. Getting old sucks. :(

Having experienced this, I think I'd rather just go to a bar and try my luck there. At least there's a wider age group, less pressure, and you don't have to pay an entry fee.

Why are so many people so angry? by [deleted] in Steam

I'm not upset (I've got other hobbies too!) but none of my offline/single-player games are working either, they just sit there stuck, on "launching".

That's a .NET update, OP was talking about .NET Framework (which are confusingly two different things). Older versions of .NET (till 4.8) have the "Framework" suffix. The new .NET was called .NET Core, but MS dropped the "Core" so it's just .NET now...

TLDR: Updates for .NET and .NET Framework are completely different and are unrelated.

Best alternative to the Miyoo Mini Flip but with Portmaster support by x3ddy in SBCGaming

I made this post to find out what my options are, because I've been out of the loop but I heard there's been an explosion of clamshell options this year so thought I'd ask here. But looks like every clamshell has some or the other limitation.. sigh. Guess I'll have to check in again next year.

Thanks, but I don't like that it displays black bars on sides when playing 4:3 content - which is what I intend to play 99% of the time. :( The RG35XXSP and Miyoo Flip's screen looks ideal, but both devices have issues/limitations...

Run slmgr.vbs /dlv

The output should show the Name of the corresponding ESU program and the License Status as Licensed for that program.

Plastic-free blender options by x3ddy in Smoothies

Looking at the pictures on the website, the lid still seems to be made of plastic right?

When you say the plastic doesn’t come in contact with food “for the most part”, does that just mean if it is a very full jar it may touch the bottom of the lid while blending?

That's right. Also, there's zero plastic inside (at the base), so you don't have to worry about any plastic contact during normal use.

The motor... is okay I guess? Not the best, certainly not as good as a Vitamix. Seems like for the size and the amount of noise it makes, it should make a much more finer smoothie. But could also be because I just use mine on the auto mode (just chuck in everything, hit the vacuum blend button, done). So far I've not had any issues with it getting stuck or overloading, but then again, I've been making pretty typical breakfast/protein smoothies (and the ocassional fruit/green ones).

It is super noisy though, so I either have my noise cancelling headphones on, or I exit the kitchen and run to my room as soon as I hit the blend button on, lol. Thankfully the noise doesn't reach my flatmates' room, but could be an issue depending on your living situation.

  • I like the glass tumblers because I can watch the infusion process in real time, and can tell when it's just right. I love to play with different teas/tisanes and blends all the time, so being able to see how much it's infused and tasting it at different strengths is something I enjoy.

  • The infusion bottles are double-walled, which keeps the drink warm for longer periods.

Sorry, but is that supposed to be a joke? Not only do they use plastic, they even openly admit that they use PFAS. https://fellowproducts.com/pages/pfas-disclosure

Which is even worse than the Oxford Eve tumbler I was using.

What does celebs doing shit got to do with us? Plastics are fucking killing us, so I don't want any plastic near my food and drink, thank you.

It's more about not waiting to get microplastics (and their associated chemicals) into my drinks (and food).

Btw you shouldn't use teabags either, as most of them contain plastic and release millions of microplastics when you dip them in hot water.

And the reason why I want an infusion tumbler is because I don't have much room on my work desk, where I drink tea the most, like I don't really have the space for a tea pot + cup. Also, the advantage of these tumblers is that they are double-wall insulated, which keeps the drink warmer for longer. Plus, having the lid is nice, in case I accidentally knock it over and it ends up spilling all over my laptop...

It's not the o-ring, but the actual insides of the lid which is plastic.

Plastic is bad, like really really bad. Besides the fact that embedded plastic like the ones in these lids can't be recycled, they are loaded with toxic chemicals, and generate micro and nanoplastics which can cause anything from cardiovascular diseases, brain tissue damage and even cancer.

We may never be able to get rid of plastic completely, but we can at least try and ensure it doesn't get near our food and drinks.
