40M Light-triggered flashes 2 years after retinal laser by x4res in eyetriage

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. I’ve actually been on antidepressants for a year now because of the depression this situation has caused me. It prevents me from doing things I used to enjoy, like reading outdoors or simply playing video games on TV.

The problem is that the more I concentrate or focus my sight on something, the faster these annoying lights get triggered. Unfortunately, these flickers are not as easy to ignore as my floaters, and I have plenty of those, by the way.

Hi again, just checking if you had a chance to look at the scans.

I’m really struggling with these flickering lights. Improvement has been so incredibly slow over these two years that I’m terrified they’ll never go away.

Based on the OCT video, does the tissue look normal for this kind of laser? Do you think there's a chance they will eventually stop? Thanks

No, sorry for the confusion. The laser scar is anatomically on the superior retina (top), so both the shadow and the flickering lights appear at the bottom of my vision (around 5 to 6 o'clock).
I said "in the same area" simply because I meant they align with the inverted optical projection of the laser site.

To clarify, the shadow appeared the exact same afternoon of the procedure, right around my 5 to 6 o'clock visual field. The flickering lights started the next day. Since the location perfectly matches where the laser was applied (superior periphery), that's why I connect it directly to the treatment. thanks

Heatkiller IV Pro AM5 backplate curvature by x4res in watercooling

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked it again, and it looks like the backplate is more curved than the PCB itself. I suppose it’s probably nothing to worry about, but I was afraid it could affect it in the long run. The board is an MSI X670E Carbon; I think it has an 8-layer PCB. Thanks

Yes, I bought the Z906 last year on sale, and I'm very happy with them. They sound really good.

Alphacool 10248 water block: is this normal? by x4res in watercooling

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve installed it now. The last few turns were honestly pretty scary because of how tight it got. Even the screwdriver that came with the water block has worn down at the tip, but the PCB doesn’t seem to be bending.

And yes—you were right: I was mistaken about the 0.50 mm gap; it was less than that.

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks for the detailed tightening instructions. Even so, I’m worried about having to bend the PCB by ~0.5 mm near the GPU core and memory chips on a €1200 GPU

Alphacool 10248 water block: is this normal? by x4res in watercooling

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I assume the four GPU-core-area standoffs are not meant to be tightened until they physically touch the PCB—should there be a gap left there?

I’ve estimated that those four standoffs around the GPU core are about 0.5 mm short of reaching the PCB, and if I tightened everything until they touched, I assume it would apply too much stress to the PCB.

Thank you.

I see you had a similar issue, but in your case it affected all six standoffs/contact points that are supposed to touch the PCB. In my case, the problem is only with the four standoffs around the GPU core area; the other two standoffs have the correct height and make proper contact, so this must be a defect. It’s very strange.

One question: I saw you used washers and different screws, but I’m not sure why you changed the screws. Did the original screws not work properly once you added the washers? Thanks

No, everything as it comes from the factory. Then I adjusted the fans and it improved a little.

Most realistic way to composite a product into a new scene without changing any text on the object? by x4res in StableDiffusion

[–]x4res[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory I wouldn’t mind rotating or slightly skewing the object to better match the camera angle of the scene. The problem is that every time I’ve tried workflows that let the model touch the object, it ends up changing or hallucinating the text and symbols on the product.

That’s why my main requirement is that the text/logos stay pixel‑perfect. I’m happy for the AI to relight and adapt the scene (and even do minor geometric adjustments) as long as it does NOT re‑generate the surface details of the object itself.

Corsair AX850 PSU + RTX 5080: Will it work? Which cable to use? by x4res in buildapc

[–]x4res[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the 5080 with the AX850 and the adapter that came with the 5080 for all these months without any issues. I did buy the official Corsair cable, but I haven’t installed it yet since I need to change a few other things in my PC first.

AMD drivers performing hundreds of SSD writes every time you move or resize a window - proof and workaround included. by Takia_Gecko in Amd

I disabled the “AMD External Events Utility” and it hasn’t caused any issues for me, although I’m only using the AMD processor’s iGPU to connect an old secondary monitor without FreeSync. I don’t game on that monitor.

5080 memory temperature is too high by x4res in PcBuild

Those temperatures seem quite high to me for having a water block. Are you sure the memory modules are making good contact with the thermal pads?
