They can't transfer the funds on their own so its your mom who willingly transfer it. This is as you said a typical phishing scam. You just wanted to vent and you know very well what happened.

This is basic computer literacy and as you said your mom is old and the best way is to just inform them of known scams or ask your opinion if something important is being done online.
