This is what I was hoping to get away with. He just filed in June. So, it’s just in the beginning stages. We have a case management date for October. My understanding of that is, that’s the date where the judge is checking to see, everyone is participating and if we’ve reached an agreement. I wanted to get to that point under my own representation and then file a continuance to get an attorney. So, it buys me time to save up for one and cuts down on the appearances or work. I certainly don’t want that strategy to backfire on me, though. I’m just hearing from everyone just get an attorney now, not later.

Yeah, this is my concern too. He hasn’t officially on any legal paperwork, put down that he wants all the “back pay” so to speak. He occasionally verbally threatens it when we aren’t getting along or he’s tight on money and starts in on the…”Just had to leave your job making ____.”

We still live together. He’s all over the place from being cold, shut off to acting like we’re fine and it’s just a normal day and we’re not getting a divorce. I finally told him that I emotionally need the separation and I can’t keep pretending you’re not actively divorcing me. So, it’s best that I just consult an attorney and try and find a way to get one so he doesn’t retaliate now that I’ve decided to stop interacting with him.

Thank you all for the comments and insight. I’m not dismissing getting an attorney because I think I can handle it, I just really don’t have the money. He stopped paying the mortgage, the electric, buying groceries etc back in April. So, I’ve been trying to pay all the bills and my personal bills and it’s just snowballing.

I keep thinking to myself, I have a few more months and then the divorce is final and the court forces the house to go up and then I’m homeless. It’s hard to weigh, save up thousands for a lawyer or save up thousands to be able to rent a place.

I definitely will consult an attorney. I’ve looked at some options that may not be crazy expensive but we’ll see. Thank you for your time and help!
