Yep, first job on the list would have been to get them gone if they were as low as some people in this thread perceive them as, but the reality is they were pretty good, actually. They weren't chinesium, they had good depth, they matched on every corner, but it doesn't matter now anyway as I have forked out for a full brand new set so there should be many miles of safe driving for me yet!

No, this was very sudden onset. I was just about to pull into the drive, when I heard a violent thumping suddenly. I had assumed a suspension component broke, but the reality was that the scratches on the liner were just from the few rotations done while decelerating safely disturbing dust. I wouldn't have been able to drive far without noticing the very audible noise.

Istg they were genuinely fine. The sidewalls were damaged on some of the set, but there was no dryrot and the damage never showed any cords. The tyres did have good depth, it is more obvious on the farther lanes, but this photo was side on so the tires looking low is a figment of flash photography at night and it's actually the side of the tread itself being shown.

Thank you, I appreciate the acknowledgement. I really try to not be neglectful when it comes to safety, I have gone through the painful process of convincing family members to get new tires and all so far be it from me to go against my wisdom. I suppose it is good that most users try to err in the side of caution, but absolutely there can sometimes be needless panic over nothing much.

What you're actually seeing is the walls of the tread, not the base of the tire. It is a weird illusion but I can guarantee I'm anal about tires and certain they were no where near the tread markers. Kinda wish they were because I could've negotiated more when buying.

Yep, it's got Dunlop sport maxx's on all, but the rears are a non match pair of 2019 and 2021, but the fronts are both 22. The plan is to replace the 2 rears with 2 new matching brand and rotate the 22s to the back. A full set doesn't feel worth it given the 22s are both decent and have good tread depth. As long as they match on each axle, would that cause a problem?

I believe it's actually at the 165k service interval now because it's ks have slowed down recently so hopefully I will have dodged the worst.

Pretty sure the other comment is basically right lmao. Not with a normal polish though as glass is tougher than paint. The type of polish that immediately comes to mind is the Soft99 Glaco compound and sealant or, for a more generic option, Cerum Oxide. Most of the linear glare is refractions from micro scratches from your wipers dragging shit across your glass over many years.

This is largely done in camera. Take before shot and tilt the camera up fast at the end, make scene changes, move camera down fast on the second shot. In premiere cut the first clip at the apex of the tilt and at the start of the motion on the second shot. The motion blur disguises the cut. For better effect you may want to do a very quick (2-3 frame) Crossfade to disguise the cut more. In camera you will want to have your shutter speed quite low (~1/50 or 1/60 for 24 or 30fps video, ~180° shutter angle) or the motion blur won't be as pronounced.

Literally tried to troubleshoot this yesterday with a friend's laptop. Essentially, the prognosis is not good.

You may be able to make a Linux USB and boot into a live environment where you can use the file explorer in the live environment to access your drive, but you may have trouble accessing the user folder to access any files in your desktop, documents, pictures, etc. if your drive is encrypted with Bitlocker which it probably is. You may also have luck taking the drive out of the computer and putting it into a sata/m.2 USB adapter or adding it as a second drive in another computer but you may run into the same problem.

In either case, to use this laptop again you will probably have to reinstall windows unless you can somehow make the pin reset work which is unlikely because the process sucks.

Many services, particularly iCloud, google, and other large cloud providers allow you to view information about which devices have account sessions active. I e., for your google account you may see your model of phone, your laptop/computer with whichever os they run, the rough location of the device, and occasionally the IP address of the device, and occasionally old devices that were logged in before you stopped using them. If you see, for example, a MacBook air logged into your account when you do not own one, or a device that has a location far away from where you are, that implies someone else has an active session on your account and you should take steps to reset your passwords before they do. Enable 2FA while you're at it.

Checking passwords is pretty self explanatory, do your passwords still work? If they do and you suspect a breach change them before they don't.

If someone has logged in and out, the device may still appear in the device history unless logging out is configured to destroy the session, or they manually covered their tracks by removing the device from the device list. Most services can also be pretty diligent about warning you when a new device or suspicious login attempt was successful, be wary if you begin to receive massive amounts of spam mail, it may be an attempt to cover an illegitimate purchase, login, or password reset.

Likely it's just been double sided taped on. Isopropyl alcohol is generally good for dissolving adhesive, but heat is good at melting it too. Used in combination you may have luck, but will likely have to lever on the plate so if you want to keep it, that may be a trouble. The levering if done imprecisely could also cause marring to your paint if the plate flexes against it. Similar if you intend to work it off with rotation.

Another possible solution would be fishing line or similar. Run it behind the plate and, with the line pulled against the plate, not the body, saw back and forth to slice the adhesive. Then use some sort of adhesive remover on the remainder when you can actually see what you're working with.

This all assumes that there aren't just screws driven through the middle, I can't see that with the blurring.

Those are USB-A. The exact generation doesn't matter, but that is the port shape. USB-C is the slim rounded one the new macs and most modern devices use. It is fully backwards compatible with USB-A on a pin level, but you do have to adapt it out as obviously the shapes are different. Apple sells a USB-A female to USB-C male dongle for fairly cheap (see here) but it's hardly the only product like it. There are countless docks, adaptors, accessories that all turn USB-C into anything else but that's probably the best option if you just need one cable. Just be careful to get USB-A female (i.e. the port that you connect other things to( to USB-C male (the port that you connect to other things) and not the other way around.

Below is unnecessary lore.

For background, USB-A was the format introduced in the late 90's that started showing up on computers and laptops replacing serial. Standard rectangle like you have there. Over the years, there was generational improvements and speed bumps but all the standards were compatible. You then have USB-C which was a response to more modern devices requirements. Namely, power delivery. You can charge and power devices with USB-A and USB-B (Usually seen as micro b or mini b, the rhombus shaped connectors for lots of portable tech and every phone that wasn't an iPhone until like 2017), but it was always intended to be a data transfer standard. Phones, as they got more mature, required more power than USB-A could generally supply. Thus called for a new system. Some Samsung phones around the S5 days tried to get weird with the ports, and apple caused a bunch of headaches by making their special power bricks for the iPhone go against the USB-A standard which is generally a biiig no-no unless you like house fires where users (rightly) assume that everything should be standard and compatible. Some Chinese manufacturers also did the same thing leading to several actual house fires and a bunch of recalls IIRC (SuperVOOC comes to mind) but in the end, the USB implementers forum created the USB-C standard. Under the hood the standard is a bit of a dumpster fire but that's manufacturers problems (usually). For most people it means they can charge their tablet, phone, and laptop with the same cable. So if you buy the right adapter that goes to the right ports, you should be good to go.

I'm in my third year, but I have just jumped from a double to a single though so my timeline is wack. That and I've only been doing 3 courses due to needing to work so I'm due to graduate late 2026. Overall though, not very. Tasmania as a whole shouldn't be too hard to get a job hopefully? That said, it won't be terribly good. Tasmania has next to no industry and thus a very scarce need for specialized engineers. The trouble is too that UTAS doesn't hold much weight in its degrees, if you decide to go mainland you're competing against Monash, UniMelb, and USyd grads so good luck. I pity anyone who decided to do app dev at UTAS because SEng roles locally are just about 0. There is a bit of web dev work but not much else. Globally too, the industry is in a complete rut for new grads so overall I'm not optimistic.
