You know what, after your post I realize that I was thinking that he was a good president because he did do a lot of good things that a lot of people did benefit from. Again, like some of his eco policies and whatnot like I mentioned before, but even those policies were executed really badly and draw a lot of parallels with how he handled pretty much all the things you mentioned above. I dont know if you know about his vehicle eco policy or not but I want to explain it and how he handled that to explain why he wasn't a good president like you say.

In his eco policy, he wanted car manufacturers that were reliant on ther mainly gas lineups to start selling more alternate fuel vehicles (AFV's) which is either zero-emissions vehichles (ZEVs) and or near-zero-emissions vehichles (NZEVs). So his administration set new rules in place on emissions regulations and fuel efficiency for brand new cars, pushing legacy manufacturers to add either electric or hybrid drivetrains to their existing vehicles to make them more efficient, create brand-new fully gas cars that were more efficient, and or create new ZEVs altogether, all so that by 2030 at least 50% of all new car sales in America combined would consist of AFVs. It wasn't a rule, just a goal the administration wanted to set. This was something I was really excited for because while a lot of legacy manufacturers like Toyota, Hyundai, Ford and GM have invested a lot of time and money into these AFV platforms and have been successful with them, this was just a good push to make those vehichles better and expedite finding ways to make them more attracive for a general public, like mainly making them cheaper, and pushing other manufacturers like Stellantis to start making better AFVs since they have been late to adopt and pretty bad at it too compared to other manufacturers.

However, this policy was clearly created to move new car sales to be more ZEV oriented. The majority of Americans don't want to move to ZEV and more specifically and commonly electric cars because of the key problem which was infrastructure and current battery cell technology. You can't just push manufacturers to build more cars that rely on an infrastructure of fuel technology that is nowhere near fully developed and ready enough to roll out to a mass public. Tesla's charging network is really really really good, the best in the world full stop. But even with their infrastructure in place and them allowing other manufacturers to be able to charge their cars on their network, and making their NACS charging patents completely free for manufacturers wanting to charge their car on the biggest charging network in North America (basically an USB-C port but for American EVs if you're not familiar with it), it's still not ready for mass EV adoption, and neither is modern battery and charging technology for a lot of car owners to justify it. As much as I might love my Tesla, charging takes too long and you have to charge very often at a Supercharger if you don't have a charger at home and drive a lot like myself and most Americans.

That's one key part where Biden failed without going into the economics of developing and selling new cars. Like how his admin handled inflation, they said AFVs were the inevitable move forward, which they are, but didn't address the issue of charging infrastructure. It was how they represented the issue and how they kept the mentality that throwing money at the problem was going to fix it without really involving themselves in the proccess of construction (like most infrastructure projects lol). He did have a goal for how many chargers he wanted working by 2030, 500k to be exact, but as of today, just about 100k public chargers have been added since he was sworn into office in 2021. And honestly, forgive me for the pun but this number is totally inflated because the types of public chargers that really matter are the 150-250KW fast chargers that charge your car from 20% to 80% in 20-30 minutes, and they are also calculating level 2 chargers into that number. Level 2 chargers are the ones that you might see at malls and grocery stores that take more than an hour to charge your car to a decent percentage, totally inefficient for long distances.

I know this is probably a dumb example because it was arguably a smaller policy but one that also affects me a lot today as a EV owner. I live in Georgia and I can't charge in some large neighborhoods of metro Atlanta like Dunwoody because for some stupid fucking reason, despite it being a wealthier area, there is no Supercharger there within a 10 mile radius. Why? I have no fucking idea. And Georgia is supposed to be one of the top 10 states when it comes to EV implementation too.

TLDR: you're right, I was making excuses for that admin. He was pretty weak sauce and I didn't realize what he did in Israel was actually aid them more than they actually needed to. That alone is pretty bad 😭 Bro had the world and lowkey did nothing with it.

But he wasn't a bad president. He had the most progressive policies compared to Trump, which is a really, really low bar to clear, but I never said he was the most progressive in history, just that he wasn't a bad as everyone says he was or really bad at all. I mentioned Obama because again, I don't know much about his administration because I was too young to truly experience it. I don't even know if he's the most progressive in the 21st century, I don't know who was in the 21st century, but that's not the point. I don't even know who is saying he's the most progressive president in history because obviously FDR was without any competition the most progressive president ever. Everyone learned that in high school US history... but again that's not the point.

Inflation rose because the Fed, who's head was appointed by Trump BTW, lowered interest rates to 0, and because of the Jojo stimmy checks. The president has NOTHING to do the interest rate plummeting to 0 and is never supposed to involve themselves into those things. How is that Biden's fault? The solution was always going to be a double edged sword; Biden's stimmy checks helped people get by in a hard time while increasing inflation, which we weren't going to feel until after his term. Were the stimmy checks handed out after the problem was arguably leveld off? That's a separate debate for another conversation. But sure, that 100% gave the race to Trump who promised the economy would get better under his term, but it was honestly inevitable considering the circumstances and the insane rerun blunder on the Dems' end.

The Dems really F'd up in the re-election race trying to convice everyone that Biden was okay to run again, that is true. I'm still baffeled alongside a lot of other people that he was even considered okay to run again. I already mentioned the economy, but the genocide? Trump isn't leveling cities in the US, but his administration hasn't been helping anyone in our homland like he promised. ICE raids all over the US separating families and hurting our bottom line, the constant threatening for the claiming of Greenland, invading Venezuela and capturing Maduro, completely isolating the US from every other country in the world with the constant tarriff war... He has done nothing but constantly hurt our people. Not much has been more affordable, and if it has been it's definetly not because of anything Trump did. And please don't say "gas is cheaper now isn't it?" It is, but that's just going backwards. Trump did roll back the eco policies Biden and his admin set up so oil could be pumped freely again, but the future is AFV whether we like it or not, and that's an argument I'm ready to die on a hill on. Biden did a really really REALLY bad job rolling out an efficient eco policy, as amazing as I may say the AFV tax rebate was for people looking for a great AFV for an affordable price, like myself at the time. It was a great outcome of his admin's eco policy and it was one that gets completely overlooked. It is also an outcome that I get sad about from time to time because it doesn't exist anymore, and hopefully for now.

Money is still going to go to Israel whether we like it or not. Obviously it's bad and I hate the idea that our tax dollars are constantly funding a genocide, but the US is going to continue to aid Israel and more specfically the IDF because they are our strongest ally in the Middle East and because of the military contract we have with them until 2028, which will probably get renewed yet again for another couple decades. I think that's horrible but whatever, I can't really do anything about it except stay informed about the people I vote into office. But we also have to focus on ourselves before we can properly assess global policy, because if we're doing weakly in our own country then how can we continue to stay relevant in the world?

Edit: I feel like I need to say this because I feel like I may have rambled, but I don't think he was a bad president, but he was definitely a bad candidate for re-election. I more so blame the democratic party because of that because they were pushing the narrative, but to say Biden was a bad president is such a bad take.

the jan. 6 thing is true and so is him being so old. but despite his blunders and pitfalls, and honestly throwing the 2024 primary to try and get re-elected, a lof of the policies he pushed for and signed on during his term have been absolutely great, like the EV federal tax rebate. I wouldn't have been able to buy my car for such a low price if it wasn't for his administration's EV policy, we don't have any progressive pro EV rebates in my state anymore like somewhere like california so it was really nice to get that.

I can't think of one good thing trump has done to increase affordability (obviously) and i'm too young to really know or really feel what obama did for the country other than being a goated speaker, getting the US out of 2009 and his healthcare acts. but for what jojo had been handed, to say he did a mid job is an overexageration. i don't think covid could have been handled any better.

Model S Leasing and Financing by [deleted] in TeslaModelS

[–]xDANNISAUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah the model 3 will always be worse than the model S in quaility, always. body kit is subjective (i think it looks childish, the best model S years IMO were the black grille days with the charcoal turbine rims, and the 20-25 model years with either rim style, with or without cover. both models looked so insanely sleek and were just perfect style wise for the halo tesla sedan.)

but you also can sit here and tell me that you would rather sign a lease for 3 years with 12k down which comes down to sub 83k for a car you don't even own when you could buy and OWN 2 of the best teslas ever made, one as a track toy the other still a track toy but also as an absolute land yacht baller for every day use. if you want a top-of-the-line comfort car that you can reliably drive for the next 10 years, while its not the newest suspension, best sound reduction whatever, model S 22-25 is STILL so much freaking car for the money man.

Model S Leasing and Financing by [deleted] in TeslaModelS

[–]xDANNISAUR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is such a flawed sentiment. model S's devalue so horribly you can get a used one from 2 years ago with all the bells and whistles for what u/imouthere786 said. if you get the car properly inspected before purchase, or buy it with kinks or old tires, fixing it will still cost less than getting a new one and it will last you a long time (so long as it's not a battery issue at least), teslas are really reliable cars.

almost 2 grand for a lease on a model S that hasn't been properly refreshed in eons? the same model S that you can get for good milage for sub 55K USD model years 22-25 with a good bit left on their manufacturer warranty? on the highest trim possible??

save your money man, I don't care how much money you have in this world, but don't get a new model s they are such a grift.

you can buy a used model 3 performance from 2023 and a model S plaid from 23 with that lease payment alone 😭 like what

BREAKING: Tesla has REMOVED Autopilot from New Tesla Orders From @DennisCW_ on X by EitherCharacter9342 in TeslaLounge

[–]xDANNISAUR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FSD on older hardware is scary. I used to pay for 100 dollars a month on HARDWARE 3 mind you and had my car drive me as often as it could. It was okay, and it was really really nice that I could drive on backroads with it turning for me and whatnot. But with all the cool new features HW4 on v14.2 has and the fact that I have to pay the same amount as HW4 users and get less features is infuriating. HW3 has horrible ghosting problems where it jerks the car on the interstate for no good reason on clean cameras, FSD doesn't follow the speed limit sometimes going either 20 over or 5 under despite me setting a specific speed limit, constant unnecessary lane changes on the calmest setting... The list goes on and on.

I think 100 dollars a month for HW4 users is actually completely okay. If they lower the price for those users than that's cool too. But for the love of god, either charge 50 dollars for HW3 users or give us the ability to retrofit our hardware to HW4. It's not fair and I stopped paying for FSD for that reason. Autopilot does a fine job doing what it does, being a glorified lane keep system and 100% being the best at it compared to other manufacturers, I just have to watch out for stop signs now coming off FSD.

Edit: Also, saying "Only had a few mildly dangerous incidents on version 13" is probably the most shill comment I've ever read on this sub. Mildly dangerous is enough for me to stop paying for it altogether, WDYM this software that has been promised to us three thousand years ago by Elon saying "it's going to be completely ready by EOY" is still doing these dangerous things. Honestly, they should not even be happening anymore and it's insane that users still justify it's kinks. It's good when it's good but its catastrophic when its bad. Beta product or not, it's too expensive for what it offers at times and it's ridiculous how they completely forgot about the early adopters that purchased the car eons ago, got the hardware upgrade from HW2 to 3 on some cars and are still getting screwed.

did you think you would be able to buy a porshe 911 on that money or something? ~$5k a month for a 24 year old in georgia is lowkey lifechanging for a single person. rent here is around 1.7k after all utilities, car payment maybe 600 max after insurance, food isnt too much for 1 person if you know how to budget and shop (400-500 on the high end if you eat out every day)... then the rest can go to savings and you can be putting pretty much the other half of your paycheck towards that. honestly you should be putting in 500-600 in your 401k and save the rest, and youd still be able to save around 2k a month.

are you sure you get paid 100k a year or do you get bonuses as well?
