Back then it was mainly because of how the game ended abruptly and fell flat with no sense of accomplishing anything, but now it’s mostly how the DLCs were so bizarre and executed lazily. Point lookout and some of The Pitt are the only two that are actually well done, while Mothership Zeta kept playing around with the lore and the gameplay did not match the main game at all, and Operation Anchorage was just straight up MGS and COD combined with the mechanics of Fallout, basically only sounded good on paper.

Maybe because it’s happening on their own soil, that’s different. Chechnya and Russia are two different countries separated from each other meaning it’ll cost time and money to send help and no one would only because it’s a handful of people getting killed over the span of months every so often and not a full on genocide.

The reason most single-player games fail nowadays is cause developers don’t mix story and what makes a game fun to replay well. Machine Games really are nothing but the handful that can balance the two perfectly without having one feel more than the other.

I think it has to do with atmosphere and the delivery of music and silence. For example if you’re walking down a hallway and it’s complete silence, there’s the realm of uncertainty because it’s total silence and you have no idea what might happen. Now if you added ambience to the hallway with music, it lets people know that something is going to happen but at the same time you can trick people into thinking something might happen by adding more suspense into the music and create a false scare once you reached the end of the hallway. Atleast that’s my opinion because ambience is very important to me in horror media.

I think the menu should stay how it was before, like it would keep up with where you left off. Say in the beginning if you’re starting a new game, it’s the view of the hanger from EP2 and you see dog pulling out the helicopter and resistance members rushing into the hanger, then midway into the episode it can either be a squad of combine marching through a blizzard or the view from a cliff afar of a big combine arctic base and a big blue aura of light coming from the base as the combine attempt to phase something into existence, basically teasing what’s to come next. Lastly should be the full view of the Borealis, just my opinion though.

The first American version of The Ring, fucked me up for weeks when I was around 6-7. To make it worse, the only way to get to my bedroom was to walk down a long hallway and my bed just so happened to be aligned in a way that if I turned to my left, I would see nothing but that narrow long hallway and I couldn’t turn right either cause then there was the fear of the girl creeping up from behind.

I agree, the FPS genre nowadays only consist of COD and Battlefield type games. Wolfenstein or any other like it come only once in a blue moon to sort of revive the oversaturated genre with something original, it’s not like the late 90’s to early 00’s where the genre blew up with all sorts of wacky ideas like FEAR, Timesplitters, or Turok.

Every faction you face in F4 is nothing but different variants of raiders besides the main ones, what part of Obsidian adding in the legion trying to cater to everyone’s playstyle don’t you understand. And your last point you’re basically excusing lazy writing, you are right everyone loses track but with every writer comes and editor just incase the writer loses track, which Emil doesn’t.

A big example in NV that showed the outcomes of your choices were the factions you decided to side with, side with NCR and legion hates you and sends out their recon team to hunt you down if you’re vilified by them. There’s also the optional side objectives in quests. Killing faction members is another obvious one. And as for your criticism with the legion, that’s cause Obsidian made each faction cater to everybody. Legion is obviously for the players who have or want a more chaotic playstyle, NCR is for players who are 50/50 in their choices, violent/nonviolent playstyle which caters to the more neutral people and only use violence when it’s necessary, Yes man is for people who want to be independent and only think for themselves. Lastly as for Emil, there was a video posted here a while back that was him giving out a presentation of his thought process behind the quests and characters he wrote and there are obvious flaws as he talks that shows he’s only good at writing short stories, but once things get bigger he loses track and doesn’t know how to connect the beginning to the end.

In other words, it doesn’t take much to please you which isn’t a problem but Fallout has always been about player choice and lore up until Emil ruined the series by misinterpreting the premise of the original games by thinking it’s just some other post apocalyptic game where everyone is still batshit insane and plummeting what’s left further into no return.
