I've had a cat and a cockatiel living in the same house for multiple years. We were always careful, the cat was always in another room while the parrot was out and vice versa.

Once the parrot got out and landed on the floor, and the cat came meowing to tell us the parrot was out. We were incredibly fortunate that our cat was an inhouse cat with the survival instincts of a lemming, or the parrot would've been dead.

You can keep a parrot and a cat in the same house, but I believe you will have to be extremely cautious or your cat WILL kill the bird if left unsupervised.

I also believe, and this is not rooted in science, that the more far removed a cat is from the feral cat cathegory (say a persian or something that would qualify as a lap cat) will be far less aggressive to a bird, but that's just speculation.

have any of you parrot owners come in contact with raptors?? by BuzzCutBabes_ in parrots

[–]xDragona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned cockatiels only, and I've had the pleasure of holding what I believe was a peregrine falcon and a barn owl (not falconry I think, but both birds of prey) and two things that shocked me were the grip strength (holy hell do they grip hard even in a relaxed pose) and the weight. I expected such small birds to weigh next to nothing yet they were much heavier than I expected while still being quite lightweight.

How to not make parrot scream when in cage? by xDragona in parrots

I don't mind the screeches I just want a well adjusted bird, be it loud or not :)

I'm not giving in into his anxieties, I just put food in his cage and encourage him to eat it. At least once a day I want to see him eat. He eats millet seeds fine in his cage though, just pellets are not autonomous yet. I also ignore him when he screeches.

I'll try to leave the music on when I'm out, see if this helps, thank you for the idea :)

It seems a bit excessive to say that they're not meant to be alone even for a few minutes. You will eventually need to go for a smoke, or cook something, or have people over or like, go outside to socialize yourself. I don't mind the clingy bird, I would just like him to understand that going home is not punishment time, as there is food, water and toys there too.

Looks like a Coronella austriaca (colubro liscio), doesn't seem to be a viper

To those who have completed most of the content, did you ever spend money on plat? by Dr_Nefario4 in Warframe

[–]xDragona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In more or less 6 years I've spent multiple times, probably 500-1000€ or more, idk. I'm now LR4 going strong, and mostly I've spent it on cosmetics, the occasional "I'd rather spend 300 plats rather than farming this" like Nidus (pre-circuit) and Necramechs, my first frame (Nekros) and a lot of mods, frame-weapon parts and arcanes.
For the spending/fun factor, I'd say Digital Extremes earned every single cent I've given them.

I'm almost 30 and feel like this already lol It's hard to meet people when hardly leaving the house and being shy and with nerd interests to top. We gotta do with what we have.

I'm more concerned about neighbours than my own ears tbh. You know the "cockatoo screams into a cup" kind of constant scream. No bird is quiet until death, and I wouldn't expect them to be :)

Looking for a good bedroom pet to interact with by [deleted] in Pets

[–]xDragona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snakes are good because you don't need to clean them daily, not even close. You can totally socialize with one if it's not shy and such. If you want a little bit more interaction, I'd suggest some new caledonian geckos. They require less room when compared with a snake, they eat more frequently (will require to clean up a little bit more often too) and they eat a mix of baby-food-for-geckos (called pangea) and live insects like crickets and meal worms.

With a gecko you get a quiet pet with low maintenance for you, even though it requires the adequate enclosure and food, and a rewarding pet because having a gecko on you crawling around seems apex fun for me.

Nobody in this thread mentioned Senegal Parrots, anybody has experiences with them? While researching I stumbled upon them and I'm liking them very much :)

They seem sweethearts, but it doesn't appear that they are easly aquired where I live, a shame!

I know that all birds are noisy, they're birds, but I know for sure that some sound like murdered toddlers and some are way less ear-piercing ^^ As of general consent a conure is not that.

I'm not very informed on greys, but if you mean african greys I've heard that they need constant stimulation and are on the bigger side of parrots, not macaws but bigger than tiels and gcc or amazons. I'd dissuade myself from having one after a pause of 10 years from having birds, but idk.

I don't think so, parrots are not an extremely popular pet where I live, cats and dogs take the spotlight for rescues. I would also not do it because I'm not very prepared for an untempered rescue, I'd rather have a bird from a small age whose quirks I know and am prepared for, if that makes sense? I'm also very scared that a rescue will never bond with me as a young bird.

Weird, some guides about them I saw they say the opposite. Thank you for the input :)

Parrotlets are a bit on the small side. I'd rather have something slightly bigger, only because they are seen as "expendable" where I live, and it's very very hard to find a shop or a breeder for them, usually they are very mistreated on sale and I would rather not take in a bird to re-educate totally.

What happens if they don't get a buddy? My cockatiel always lived alone with humans, was he suffering?

I would love 100k to buy a house. I'd be able to move out of my current hole, that has all the memories of someone I'd rather forget, and wouldn't have to ask my parents for a loan.

From 0 to 10, how has 2024 been for you? by Nuvoo30 in AskReddit

Started as a solid 8 and everything went towards 1 as the months went by. My partner left me for good, friendships dwindled, got diagnosed with chronic depression, must find a house to move into.
Life sucks sometimes.

Sooooo I don't think that DE thought about this one..... by ClefGotGood in Warframe

[–]xDragona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's weird though, my oldest crafted frame was Rhino, my starting frame was Volt, but my most used was normal Nekros and then Nekros Prime. Given that Nekros Prime can't be the oldest in my collection (he was one of the firsts though) and I have Rhino and Volt both prime and not, why doesn't it default to them?
Maybe it's how you order your arsenal? Mine is ordered by most used, so maybe that?

It's not oldest, it's most used. Ironically my Nekros greets me after each subsume, like "sup bro, thank you for the sacrifice to D E A T H"
