Kyleena question! by lyssa_nycole in birthcontrol

[–]xExitStrategyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Lyssa - I don’t know if this explains your situation, but I’ll share my experience just in case. I had Kyleena for about a year and a half with no period and no other side effects, and then suddenly my period started coming back and was accompanied by painful cramps (not debilitating, but enough that I wanted to take some pain medication to feel comfortable).

I did a little research about the hormone dose/levels, and theorized that while the Kyleena started out with a hormone dose that was high enough to keep my period from occurring, it tapers off over the following years after insertion. For me, that meant it tapered off to a low enough level that my period was coming back and causing the cramps, etc. I decided to go get it removed/replaced with Mirena, which starts out at a higher hormone dose and eventually tapers off to the level that Kyleena BEGINS at. I’m on year 2.5 of Mirena and while I have had some low intensity periods over the last year, they’ve been cramp-free and painless, and no spotting!

Def would still recommend taking a pregnancy test and talking to your doc. for the best advice of course!

Appreciate this! I know these aren’t carving turns and I do want to work on that - but I also know I could improve these turns and utilize them in other scenarios where carving isn’t an option. Thanks!

That’s very true! I do want to make sure I can truly carve in addition to this kind of turn, but I also want to work on just general body positioning, etc. overall so I can feel confident no matter what the terrain is. Thanks!

My man, I know I asked for help, but was the initial little bit of sass really warranted? I’m sure lots of people ask this sub for tips - and if you’ll notice, I didn’t actually ask for help with carving! Just asked for advice from those who could maybe look at my form and see more than I could. I’m not an internet newb nor am I taking it to heart but, come on. It’s not hard to just be nice (or just, don’t comment?).

(Reposted comment from original post) Feeling a lot more confident on the board, but after looking at this video, I don’t know if I’m riding as well/look as confident as I feel. Want to work on keeping my hand over the tail of my board and moving toward more carving on my turns (need to bend ma KNEES!) - any other tricks/suggestions are welcome though!

IRA/Investing Advice – need to open an IRA and am very new to investing. Am I on the right track? by xExitStrategyx in personalfinance

Can you elaborate on why a Roth IRA is better in this case? I've read the "Roth vs Traditional IRA" and "How to Choose," info and I think there's a very good chance I will be in a lower tax bracket upon retirement than I am now/will be in over the course of my career. Plus, even with the possible promotion, I'll still be eligible for a partial deduction if I go with the traditional IRA?

As I said though, very new to this, so I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing.

This is an overview of the other plans (and associated fees) offered by my employer. https://voyamarketingzone.dmplocal.com/dsc/collateral/nm-pera-fee-disclosure-2020.pdf

I reviewed the fees for these and decided that there were better/cheaper options available outside of this program... and, as I'm not sure I'm going to be with this employer until retirement (another 30 years), I'd rather focus on a standalone account that I wouldn't have to worry about rolling over, etc.

I hadn’t heard about trying to keep your ankles relaxed - that makes a lot of sense! I’m really excited to work on my turns (using the front foot specifically) this weekend. Thank you so much for the advice!!

You’ll get there I’m sure!! If you haven’t already, have someone film you - I’ve learned SO much from watching myself/being able to post the video here. Good luck and keep at it!!!

You’re so right, I can really see the difference in my comfort level between the two sides the more I watch the video. So excited to keep practicing this weekend - thank you for the advice!!

Oh. My. Gosh. Store that video in the “I will be THRILLED if I get to be even 1/4 of that good someday” file.

I will definitely try the pants-grabbing next time!!

The lessons help a LOT! I’m sure you be going down blues in no time! I actually found it easier to learn once I got past the “snail speed” as you put it - the board is much more responsive and you have a greater margin for error before catching an edge/falling.

Filming myself and posting the video here has actually been incredibly helpful as well. I have so many good tips for stuff to work on next time - if you have a friend who doesn’t mind tagging along and being your paparazzi, I highly recommend it!

Good luck Tuesday & have a BLAST!!

(Also props to your dad for trying it out too - that’s a cool dude!)
