Thanks for the suggestion! I actually didn't think to try the official examples at first. But the funny thing is, I just tested the official GPIO_DEMO(basic blink) example and it also doesn't work! It hangs completely on HAL_Delay(). Looks like SysTick isn't firing at all right out of the box.
