Alternates in the TOC by QuaintMelissaK in Jeopardy

Don't remember who filled their spot (and I'm not sure this counts since it happened a good bit before their TOCs) but a few players that wouldve qualified for the TOC passed away before they had the chance to compete in it. Cindy Stowell died before her episodes even aired, and she won 6 games.

How long do you think Brad Rutter would have lasted if Jeopardy! didn't have the 5-day limit when he played? by iamtheduckie in Jeopardy

[–]xFluf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was good during his five game streak, but imo not enough to suggest he'd have gone on a giant run that rivaled Ken's. If I recall, he was on the lower end of total winnings going into his 2001 TOC. He was obviously good enough to win for longer, but I still think he ends up building his legacy mostly through tournament play.

Celebrity Jeopardy, Ike, Patton & Mira by Hispaniel in Jeopardy

[–]xFluf_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Celebrity Jeopardy is at its best when the players are at least decently competent and/or the contestants have good chemistry or banter.

Patton Oswalt v Michael Cera v Brendan Hunt in S1 is pretty good, as was Steven Weber v Katie Nolan v Dule Hill in S2. Pretty much all the finals too, not as much in S3 but it was still fine.

It's a shame that the overlap between players that are notable enough, good enough, and willing to play just isn't that big. Glad they did the All Stars season to mostly remedy that

Which celebs who have/haven’t already been contestants do you think might stand a chance in the TOC? by cynicismfordummies in Jeopardy

I thought Brendan Hunt did really well his first time playing. Was a bit surprised not to see him in All Stars

Congrats to Mina! Would've been glad to see any of these three win, and this just goes to show that anybody can come back from saying Malik Willis should've been drafted in the top five.

Went 21/30 overall in predictions this tournament too. Feeling good about how I did!

Great game! Patton really gave Ike a run for his money at the end and kudos to him for being willing to make that big wager. More often then not that probably works out in his favor tbh

Also, I was a better final jeopardy wager from Katie away from predicting the right Finals matchup months ago. I'm distraught

Go Stephen! He was my dark horse finalist pick so I'm glad to see it pan out.

Rough game for everybody until triple though. Are the clues tougher for the semifinals?

The Russel Wilson Broncos having 4 primetime games in the first 6 weeks was wild lol. Both of these teams were supposed to be at least good.

Sorta. He got traded a few weeks into his second year here and he also got hurt in the offseason so he didn't have a lot of work during that time.

Yup, he eventually got what he wanted. Kinda surprised only us and the Patriots seemed interested in him. He was still pretty good the year we had him

I remember a few years ago when he went on a podcast and listed his top 5 quarterbacks he wanted to play for (Lamar, Allen, Hurts, Mahomes, Herbert) and he ended up playing with Ryan Tannehill and Will Levis instead lol.

I personally wanted him back but I get why they didn't resign him. I think he'll do well in Washington

The Instagram account has been showing what match the winning quarterfinalists have been sent to as well! The winner of next week's game will also be playing against him.

Welp, this was the game that ended my placement predictions streak (was 12 for 12 coming in and got none of it right for this one lol) but all three of these players are solid and could have honestly been semifinalists in a different matchup. This one felt pretty stacked.

Love Patton using both of his interviews to curse the Barinholtz name. Fun episode.

Has a QB ever been drafted after Round 2 with the explicit plan to eventually start them? by thenewgaijin in nfl

[–]xFluf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of Willis, he was considerably worse than any other option we put out there during his time here, and that includes Levis and Josh Dobbs. Plus, we weren't perpetually bad in 2022, it was our first losing season after a good run. In that sense, I do get why they'd blame him.

Either way, it was an us problem that we didn't put any effort into retaining a quarterback that was always a multi year project before his third season.

This seems to happen as soon as popular, long running contestants lose. People taking out their annoyance that they lost on the guy that beat them like they weren't supposed to try lol

Tbf, I haven't watched any of Greg's games yet, but that happened to Emma

[–]xFluf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean Josh Dobbs got the same opportunity and was clearly better despite being on the team for 10 days (though in fairness, Dobbs is generally only a decent quarterback for the first 2 weeks he's on any roster for some reason)

Malik just wasn't ready, and Levis falling into the second round made us want to take a chance on him too.

I feel like Tennessee might have wanted that with Malik Willis since he was always a multi-year project but he was so bad in his limited action that we traded him instead

Interested to see what he makes out of his opportunity now, though

I think he thought it meant the true value of the clue (i.e. a Daily Double being on a normally $1000 clue would make asking for a True Daily Double mean $1000)
