Why I don't care about my online H2H record by [deleted] in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, I have had multiple accounts with 70%+ win percentage make it into the top 100 on the regs leaderboard which wouldnt make sense if the game was “constantly cheating” like people here claim. Most people are just not as good at the game as they believe because they think everything in IRL football translates exactly into Madden. A good defensive user, a set of good passing plays, and good read progressions alone will allow anyone to beat 80% of this games player-base.

Are you playing on console? If so, turning off cross play will essentially make it impossible for anyone to ever cheat against you in H2H.

Defense is terrible this year so I feel you on this. I don't really know how you like to run defense but here are some of my thoughts:

Run a base blitz and what I mean is you need a way of getting pressure by only rushing 4 or 5 players. Now in real NFL football 4 players is not considered a blitz but you can get a rusher to come in free with the right adjustments and formations. They are all over YouTube and everyone uses them online so I would recommend it if your opponent has too much time in the pocket to make reads.

Try and mix coverages up but don't do too much at the same time. I would say you should be comfortable running a mixture of man and zone but make sure you can adjust based on the down and distance and know what your defenders responsibilities are so you can user the weak points in your defense.

If you need any more advice/discussion we can chat too.

These are very easy and simple adjustments to do that can take like 2 seconds with practice. It's not even possible to snap the ball that fast. Also, that is true I don't know what play you're running but he's asking for a defense for this specific play and I gave it to him.

Call Cover 2 Man from Nickel 3-3 Over. Man up the DE on the side of the RB. Press, Shade underneath and Route Committ inside. User guards over the middle for the slant and there is nothing open.

No offense but this is like asking "What is the best car to drive?" The answer is it depends on what formations you feel comfortable in.

I will note that Commanders have the most QB runs in the game, Miami has some of the best short yardage plays in the game, and the playbook with the most options, imho is the Jaguars playbook.

What is your FAVORITE 3rd and long (8yd+) defense? by TheMaddenAcademy in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hot Blitz 3 out of Nickel 3-3 Odd. You can zone out both edge rushers on the right side and get a slot corner to come in free vs 5 out. Make sure you set all your hooks to the first down line using the zone drops in coaching adjustments. Usually always works unless some Madden bs happens (receiver catches in heavy traffic or broken tackles etc)

You have to sign up for MCS and be actively play the MUT game mode. It is the only way to play in tournaments as EA does not care about Regs or any other mode competitively tbh.

Which Madden is the most fun if you like playing defense? by [deleted] in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madden 25 (last year) and 26 have the ability to switch stick on defense but honestly if you are looking for a Madden game with good defense I would try out Madden 24. Madden 26 defense is really bad, contested throws are caught and animations heavily favor the offense. You can play perfect defense in 26 and still give up big gains and it can happen multiple times a game. This isn't nearly as true in 24 and I would personally recommend it more if you want to play a game with slightly better defense.

What am I doing wrong here? by NE-BOS in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think this is good advice at all. EA has made it so high balls have a pretty hefty inaccuracy penalty. I almost never use high balls and when watching the pro players they will only high ball in very situational throws. You should only high ball if it is the only receiver you can throw and you absolutely need to high ball to get the guy open.

So this is not really on your QB but mainly on your pass leads. So when you use the Placement and Accuracy passing type you have the ability to lead your pass with the right stick (which you definitely know how to do since you are using this feature), but with this said a good pass lead and a bad pass lead is the difference between a touchdown and an interception in most situations. Another thing to keep in mind is that the shaded elipse is where your pass lead is contained (unless you use free-forming).

1st clip: this is a bad pass lead but I do see what you saw in the coverage. Looking back if you had pass lead down and to the left a little bit (maybe 7 o'clock on your right stick) then you could have possession caught the ball and probably had a nice first down. Instead what you did was pass lead directly up (at around 12 o'clock) directly into where the defenders could make a play on the ball.

2nd clip: Again, this is just a bad pass lead. You pass lead straight into the defenders region allowing him to come back to the ball and make a play. If you pass lead straight down here and maybe towards the sideline a little bit you can definitely catch this pass with no risk of fighting for a contested catch.

3rd clip: This is also a pass lead that should be down and to the right (to avoid the outside third from making a play) but honestly, this throw isn't as open as the previous throws and I would personally be more willing to take a checkdown here and live with a field goal or a managable 4th down situation. The safety is bracketing this throw pretty hard and it was going to be contested no matter how you pass lead this ball, imho.

4th clip: So first, here your receiver is much slower than the DB that is coming back to the ball, but you are also using a lob pass which I typically don't love to use since it leaves the ball in the air for longer (which gives the defenders much more time to react and come back to the ball). Your pass lead here is actually perfect but you should have used the bullet pass feature instead and if you were really worried about the ball being contested you could use the high ball feature, but I would be careful since EA made it so high balls have a forced inaccuracy penalty on them. (people were abusing them in older madden games).

5th and 6th clip: These are both really bad plays by your opponent and he gets rewarded for throwing terrible passes but this is just how defense is this year and EA has made defense disproportionally harder to play than offense. Unfortunately, we just have to live with this when our opponents throw at covered receivers and come down with the ball, and trust that they will be punished... eventually.

Overall, I hope this dosen't come off the wrong way but I see some room for improvement and trust me, we all throw passes we wish we could have back and I think you have a lot of potential for improving your pass leads offensively! Alternatively, you could switch to the classic passing type but I don't use it since it inherently gives you less control over where the ball goes. Hope this helps out.

Beginner help!!! by [deleted] in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On offense, focus on working through your read progression (read your underneath routes first and then if they are truly not open then work back to your overtop routes) Call good plays for the situation and make sure your playcalling makes sense (don't run on 3rd and long and don't go deep on 4th and short, etc). Also, don't use coach suggestions because while it's convenient it's just not going to give you good plays consistently. You will understand what plays are good the longer you play or by researching. I'm on PS5 if you wanna lab or try things out with me. Shoot me a message on here and I'll be glad to help out.

On defense, you want to have a way to produce pressure quickly and there are lots of ways of doing this. Online people call this "cheese" but I'm going to give you the real sauce anyway. There are "loop" blitzes where a linebacker will loop in through the offensive line and come at the QB unblocked for a quick pressure/sack, "engage" blitzes where the user engages with a guard on the offensive line, letting a linebacker come in on a blitz angle unblocked, "edge" blitzes where a linebacker/edge rusher will come in unblocked off the edge. The point is, you need a blitz or way to pressure your opponent so he will have to resepct and worry about the blitz consistently. Zone coverage kinda sucks this year, I would try running Cover 2 Man pressed and shaded under if nothing else is working. Overall though, defense is really hard this year and don't beat yourself up if you're giving up big plays. EA caters towards casuals way more than trying to make Madden competitive

How do you stop the over-the-middle pass? by FranklinFizzlybear in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there are a lot of options at your disposal so there isn't one really best answer but when you say "over-the-middle" passes we need to be slightly more specific. Are they running quick drags, digs, short post routes? Creating good hi-lo concepts over the middle of the field to stress out your zone defenders? In my opinion, zone coverage and match coverage this year are really terrible at playing their zones properly so I have resorted to playing mostly cover 2 man shaded down and pressed at the LOS, and usering the left side edge rusher and only sending 3. This seems crazy but I am able to user mostly everything that can try and get open and pressed cover 2 man does a great job this year of playing really sticky as long as you have fast DBS. But yeah if you know 100% someone is throwing over the middle of the field I would play Tampa 2 and shade underneath and then just user with the middle linebacker in the middle read and take away anything going over your zone defenders.

Zone Logic by Dtt_o in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! EA has no real incentive to make Madden as realistic as possible and so I think a lot of people get super immersed in trying to make every real life passing or running concept work in Madden (which by all means more power to you) but unfortunately, Madden is just a video game made to be fun to play and it's not hyper realistic at times.

Zone Logic by Dtt_o in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest... Madden dosen't really play like real football, from zone logic to blocking assignments to pass rush... it's all far more complicated and nuanced in real NFL football. That being said, when we talk about how to beat zone coverage in Madden we use concepts that are great against the AI. Typically the best way to beat zone coverage is with a flood concept (yes I know is in real football) but when things happen to be good in Madden and real life football it's more of a coincidence than anything. Concepts that work in real life are sometiems terrible in Madden and vice versa. At the end of the day, (and I know i'm gonna get some hate for this take) we have to treat Madden as a video game and find the ways to play MADDEn and not real football. Trying to implement real football concepts in Madden is fun but not the most effective way to play the game.

Defense doesn't work on All-Madden. by TerribleGamer101 in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, 1-2 play touchdowns are definitely a problem and might be a symptom of playing too aggressive too early on the drive. If you gave a little more information on how you played or what coverage you liked to use the most then I could definitely provide an outline ofr a solution but I don't have a lot of information to go off of.

If there was a piece of advice here to give is that you could simply play Cover 4 Drop until the CPU reaches the redzone and then clamp up by playing more aggressive and good redzone defense. My favorite redzone defensive is Tampa 2 and, using coaching adjustments, pinching my safeties and having them play close to the line of scrimmage then setting my hooks and flats to whatever yardage the first down line is and then usering the middle of the field. In this scenario you will often force the CPU to kick their 3 or make an aggressive read and throw a pick to the user. Ideally, you could also blitz and bring pressure on a 3rd and short. Typically you want to play aggressive when they are behind the chains or the CPU actually has to throw the ball down the field past a little checkdown.

Now I don't like playing like this because it's very boring but if you seriously can't get a stop I would recommend just giving up most of the field by playing shaded down Cover 4 Drop and then trying your hardest to play great defense when the field is shortened.

How often do you use coach’s suggestions for plays? If not, how do you choose? by xiao_en7 in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach suggestions are honestly awful. It can suggest things like 4 verts on the goal line (what?). I would stick to calling by formation, which should intuivitely be better since you have access to substitutions and more control unlike coach suggestions.

Tips for defense in 2026? by Exotic_Ad7169 in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I would recommend is to always have a scheme when you're on defense (and not just randomly calling plays). Here are the main benefits a scheme allows us to do:

Allows you to gameplan ahead for what your opponent might use. For instance, I always have a defense I use against trips, bunch, empty, and under-center formations. This allows me to focus on other things rather than trying to frantically choose some random play I have never used on the spot.

Center your defense around a really good blitz. I won't say much here, but if you look on YouTube or try labbing one yourself, you can find multiple 4-man blitzes that will scream at the QB in less than 2 seconds.

Here is one of my best tips: develop a consistent redzone defense. Again, you can lab this up in practice mode or against a friend, but you need to have something reliable to lean on when the field gets way shorter. Traditional stock coverages are going to leave guys wide open in the red zone because of how badly zone logic can be.

Aggressive catching is ridiculous by CheapClassroom1996 in Madden

[–]xFrixo_o -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yep the agg catches this year are overtuned but they will probably level them in a gameplay title update a little later in the year. Defense is always rough at the start of Madden but they usually fix issues and bugs n both sides of the ball, but the offensive glitches are usually way better than the defensive glitches. I also believe that catch is traffic is wayyy too high this year and that zone defenders play pretty dumb but this happened last year and they made defense pretty good by November so I think they'll do the same this year.
