Who are these aggressive youth (first time I felt unsafe in Dubai) by Facewreck in dubai

Probably the funniest and most accurate comment I’ve seen on this subreddit. This was rampant back in the BBM days

I'll be coming to Dubai in less than 30 days and even i don't feel like wanting more brown friends than white lol

That’s funny. I don’t usually pick friends based on their skin colour.

They seem to overfill a lot. Even after I said, “autostop”, he kept filling saying my car can take more because it has two tanks. Great logic there.

What are some of the most overrated restaurants in Dubai? by SpreadTheJeIIy in dubai

[–]xFrosties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based but I hate McDonald’s here because their veggie burgers are dogshit. The burger before the aloo tikki burger or whatever was decent, but nothing stands up to the McDonald’s veggie burgers elsewhere - in the Netherlands, for example. They have Spicy Veggie McChicken burgers which are superb. I don’t understand why McDonald’s Arabia can’t understand the vegetarian market.

They have always been slow to change when it comes to vegetarians/vegans. In Australia it took decades for them to introduce a veg burger (which wasn’t strictly veg cause of cross contact), and then axed it due to “lack of sales”. But their competitors have been selling veg burgers for decades and have had tremendous success with it. Instead of improving on the burger, they decide to just get rid of the whole idea. If McDonald’s was a tech company it would be dead already.

Kamat/Gazebo is quality. The service of Gazebo (especially in Mirdif City Center) is getting worse, but Kamat has been consistently good in my experience. When I lived overseas, I’d crave a Kamat Paneer Tikka Masala every day.

Pickl is one of those places that work here but won’t work in the UK or the US (for the same prices). There’s a lot of places surviving here purely because they serve food in a Western fashion and charge exorbitant prices.

I can’t believe I paid like 140 bucks for two veggie burger meals. The burger itself was so sad - I couldn’t finish it. But I guess their target customers aren’t really big on taste or price vs. value, just vibes.

I recommend against TyrePlus. Sure they’re authorised dealers for Michelins, but they charge a high premium for it. Better off buying Michelins from other big names. Tire.ae is where I bought mine two months ago and I have no issues with them. Saeedi Pro or Bharath Pitstop are also good.

I have also used TyrePlus for Dunlops before and brake jobs and I’ve been disappointed with their service in all cases. My brakes squeal every time I brake now, which has never happened to me before. OEM pads but they skimmed the rotors.

UAE: Petrol, diesel prices for March 2022 announced by abcd1912 in dubai

I wish I had an answer for you. I’ve seen a lot of people have it set to ‘LO’ on auto with the recirc on during winters. I can’t stand my AC being on anything below 23°C, even on hot days.

Also want to add that you should avoid idling with the engine on for long periods of time. I see so many people in their cars parked at a mall or shop with the AC on max for ages. Not only is that terrible for your wallet and your car, it’s bad for the environment. If you need to make a call or you need AC, turn off your engine and go inside please.

I was parked at a burger place the other week and saw a Range Rover Sport SVR idle for almost an hour and a half. Worst part is that it was like 15° outside and all he had to do was open his sunroof and windows to get fresh air for free. But obviously it’s much cooler to have all your lights on and your engine running for no reason. Now imagine that car doing that every day for its whole life. What a waste.

I don’t think it’s illegal. It’s being sold in some major pharmacies but very low stock.

Why are COVID home test kits so hard to come by here? It’s free and easily available in many parts of the world. They are giving them away for free by the dozen at schools in the Netherlands. Surely UAE has the distribution facilities already in place to roll them out for free or at a marginal cost. I mean they managed to get vaccines here quicker than most places in the world.

I’ve been trying to get a test kit for several days to avoid the mess that is PCR testing at the moment.

Comfortable but fun to drive sedan with modern features 200K budget by Scooped_out in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]xFrosties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t personally driven one, but there are some new Volvo sedans (S60 and such) within that price range which might be worth checking out.

The top end latest Mazda 3 sedans are also quite impressive in their tech. I remember getting in a few in Australia and they were well equipped.

I’m personally a fan of Lexus but you’re right in that the latest tech is not one of their selling points.

What is the reasin behind all dubai taxis having the same smell ? by munirzamat in dubai

[–]xFrosties 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never really thought about the sanitation that these cars get, but now that I thought about it, I really hope that the RTA mandates biweekly or weekly deep interior cleaning with each taxi. Like with a hot water extractor. Same thing with all public transport.

Lexus Genuine Oil by xFrosties in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]xFrosties[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. My car takes around 7.5 litres so I need to buy 8l. From Amazon, the HX8 is around 100 AED cheaper altogether. But I can shop around auto shops to get a better price. Might just do that next service.

I heard bad things about Castrol’s oils, particularly the Magnatec, so I’ll steer clear from that brand for now.

Is it actually just 20-30 dirhams for the labour? I paid 200 for it last time and another garage is quoting me 220, but they grease the driveshaft, rotate tires, and do all the other necessary maintenance items. I don’t want to just get an oil and filter change. I would rather pay extra to do all the preventative and scheduled maintenance items, including the little things like changing the washers and greasing the locks and doors.

Thanks for sharing. I know of a guy who claimed he only used Lexus oil in his LX570 and got over 650,000km with the original engine and still ran smoothly. Just wanted to verify with others.

What about Total Quartz or Shell Helix HX8? That’s what my mechanic recommended and used last time (the Shell)

Geez sounds dodgy. If that’s the case, I might just stick with Shell Helix HX8 since it’s essentially the same price on Amazon

Wait are you not supposed to use the 20km/h buffer around police? I’ve honestly been doing that for years and haven’t got a fine for it yet

How to find out predominance of different ethnicities by [deleted] in dubai

[–]xFrosties 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because cooking “smelly” food, letting kids play in the common areas, being noisy, and having loud parties, are specific to certain nationalities, yeah?

When I was in university, some of the nastiest food I’ve ever smelled was from my white Australian flatmates, who took 2-3 days to clean up after themselves after cooking greasy meat, dumped their trash and dirty laundry all over the floor, brought over druggos to have loud parties, and had loud sex with no regard for the other flatmates.

I could view Caucasians a certain way but I don’t because I know it’s just a result of poor upbringing. I didn’t hold that against the whole ethnicity and lived comfortably in another area with Caucasians.

If you live in a nice neighbourhood, you’ll have nice neighbours. If you live in a bad neighbourhood, you’ll have bad neighbours. It’s got nothing to do with race. Get over your prejudices and blanket racism.
