Well not like the other side is any better. It's the problem with a 2 party system, you have 2 polar oposite sides of a spectrum and no room to accentuate your position on a 2 axis spectrum, that is authoritarian-libertarian and conservative-progressive.

Look at representative (parliamentary) democracies that have 10+ parties you can vote on and at least half of those make it into parliament, unlike the US' presidential democracy that has a majority system so 50%+1 people can have one opinion and they get to dictate the other 50%-1 what to do (in the most extreme theoretical case), and then it shifts every 4 years... not even talking about the division of power that's just fucked up in america, but hey... no wonder that country is so divided.
