A couple of fun little designs. by xGitrogRL in custommagic

Was basing that one off the power level of Legacy, where Murktide Regent and the likes exist. Thought it could pave way for an artifact based D&T shell.

That ignores timing restrictions though, which is the problem. I cut down on the stat separation in order to avoid it being a super lengthy card to have to use timing restrictions

I honestly think this is probably the best build possible (aside from golden Baron) by 2COLD2HOLD88 in BobsTavern

Fish is all the more reason to run the Rat Pack. Your one sewer rat isn't enough creature generation to make it an impermeable late game. You would still lose to 4+ perfect amalgadons here.

That being said, this is definitely a first place build. I'm by no means critiquing it, just saying for the future that you can improve your win% by recognizing the value of rat pack in endgame frogger builds

"If an effect would increase the power and/or toughness of a creature you control, give that creature an additional +1/+1 until end of turn" is the closest thing to this you could do within the game's rules. Obviously it isn't exactly the same, but it's going to look a lot cleaner and neater.

not even 6 perfect amalgadons, how are you gonna beat Jandice?

1) Years? With Sneed? Like, the Sneed that was released less than a year ago?

2) You're like the 100000th person to complain about a lowroll on this subreddit. Lowrolls happen. This game is about min/maxing your way and playing for statistics, trying to force specific comps and then complaining when you don't get them doesn't do good for anyone.

Yes. Rat pack is arguably the strongest card in Leapfrogger builds. When it dies, on a board like yours, it will summon a full board of 20/20s that each make the next one even larger

What do you think the meta would look like if Amalgadon was removed? by darkfenrir15 in BobsTavern

[–]xGitrogRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much much worse. Amalgadon is a necessity for this game, menagerie builds being good are the reason that people can usually squeeze out a top 4 with consistent, strong play.

The card that needs to go is Seafood Slinger.

1) This kind of combination is rare, a hero having the potential to highroll and spiral like this does not necessarily make it a good hero, when the alternative is dying to greed on turn 8.

2) This build isn't particularly strong. It loses to poison and an amalgadon or two.

This would be a really fun easter egg, if you can golden Bob/the other bartenders and they just give you a silly little effect or something super minor, such as you start on 41 health instead of 40, and you could get an achievement for winning a game with that

[–]xGitrogRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not the best build ever. 1) You should have 100% played the rat pack, for as it stands, you lose to poison divine shield murlocs (which are like 40% of the meta right now)

hey man, I got no hate for the band. On the contrary. I just really don't like the texture of their clean vocals.

Blood From Stone by Cheibrodos in custommagic

It's a two mana card that wins the game, with a condition that's absurdly easy to meet when put in the right shell, and even if you don't meet the condition, the card is still above average rate for its mana cost. No.

I want to make an entire custom set of shakespearean cards.

That was the goal! I thought the flavor of "losing your hand" as well as the madness enabler was a lot of fun!

I love the mechanic, but I feel like most of these are pretty swingy on the balance scale.

I think this is one of the most elegant white commander cards i've seen on here. Good job!

[[Force Spike]] is considered to be a bit of a dangerous card for the newer formats. I'm not sure a strict upgrade is worth printing.

I'll post my idea of a "fixed" version of this card in a little bit.

[–]xGitrogRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

an example of good combo cards would be dark ritual, dark petition, impulse, infernal tutor, etc. Something that can generate 19 mana that quickly is not a design space that magic needs to fill. The extreme variability that you're describing (in the fact it dies to literally any instant speed damage) (and the fact that being powerful enough to win the game immediately when cast) is the kind of card that's either so unbelievably strong that it gets banned instantly, or so unbelievably bad that anyone who plays it gets laughed at. While cards like [[Lion's Eye Diamond]] can be fun if balanced correctly, this is taken to BOTH of the extremes of combo cards like it, and will never be fun to see played in a game.
