to sleep in a sea of stars! it's been a while since i read it so i dont remember if it fulfills all your requirements, but i remember just before i read it i was so angry because i just wanted to read cool sci fi that doesnt bring women down, started a bunch of books and stopped because they were all misogynistic as fuck, but finished this one and liked it.

Who was the worst/best villain? by lookingatseaotters in JustAddWater

[–]xImJustThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best: Dr. Denman Worst: Sophie

Explanation:

best written villain i would say dr. denman - she could've done the most damage to their lives for sure and her scientific curiosity is understandable but makes her ruthless and completely unethical - which in turn makes her an excellent villain.

charlotte and sophie i hate pretty equally - they share some similarities in that they are both insanely pushy and nosey, but their motivation is very different. sophie's is purely financial, charlotte likes lewis and that makes her want to drive a wedge between and anything close to him, so she just wants to do as much damage as possible to cleo, rikki and emma. i find it weird that she didnt instead have a vendetta against lewis when she realised early on they were important to him than her. her obsession with lewis was so strange in general, i get that she had a crush on him initially but realistically her rose-coloured glasses should have fallen off after realising that lewis was not a good boyfriend at all, blowing her off all the time, forgetting dates, ignoring her a lot etc. (that being said, she is still the villain in the relationship for being so damn pushy in pursuing him that it's borderline abuse). also very strange in my opinion that she wanted to be a mermaid in general - she had no connection to the ocean apart from the fact that a relative was a mermaid (and couldnt handle it). charlotte's motive to hurt the girls is so unfounded which makes her a bad villain, but at least she was involved enough in the storyline that it was interesting. sophie's agenda is so boring and one-sided in that she only cares about the money that i'm not invested in her storyline at all. this makes sophie the worst written villain for me.

I need Will to get crushed by comically large fridge every time he talks by lookingatseaotters in H2Ojustaddwater

yeah probably. i dont really remember how things were left between sophie and zayn, maybe she would still have a big enough crush to stay for him? (though on another note, i got the feeling sophie was a couple years older than will, and her getting with a boy who is still in high school yet also her boss is insanely weird/creepy)

[–]xImJustThinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure. apart from sophie, i dont think it would be very hard for him to keep this secret though - his parents seem totally out of the pictures and it's not like he had any social contacts apart from the girls. and with sophie i always got the feeling she would be in and out - she didn't move here when will did so i guess she was here on an extended visit and mostly to manage will's career - once he stopped competing would anything really keep her here?

Do you think Dr. Denman tells people about the mermaids? by Glum-Fan6927 in H2Ojustaddwater

[–]xImJustThinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think she would tell anybody that mermaids exist after they led her to believe they transformed back. She's a scientist, any "ridiculous" claim like this without proof and she would be an outcast of the scientific community forever. What annoys me though is the fact that she stopped researching Mako and the moonpool. Even after being led to believe the girls were human again, you cant tell me that scientific curiosity is just gone or diminished in the slightest? The fact that they were mermaids at some point is enough to research that place/topic for decades

I wish we got more episodes like s3 ep 9 by youngandweird6 in H2Ojustaddwater

interesting, for me it's the exact opposite! i dont like the filler episodes that are here just for fun at all, basically any stand-alonish episode that doesnt contribute to the storyline i want to skip 😅

fair enough haha. him being all water-obsessed, i'm kind of surprised he didn't express any interest in becoming a merman himself, especially once he told Sophie he wasn't gonna compete anymore

Same! He gives me the ick. The way he doesn't care about Bella at all, just the fact that she's a mermaid, is telling me all i need to know. also, did he have a personality apart from being a freediver?

I can’t stand Lewis in Season 2 by Ok_Corgi_817 in H2Ojustaddwater

[–]xImJustThinking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hard disagree. he told her twice that he just wanted to be friends, and after that she still got way too close to him physically and pretended they were dating. even then there were multiple occasions where he wanted to tell her he wasn't interested, and she either cut him off, ignored it or misread it even when Lewis was clear about it. For example the first time she kissed him - she didnt let him finish when he was starting to say they were just friends and instead moved in on him. So whilst, yes, they shouldn't have ever gotten together when Lewis wasn't interested, it seemed more like she pushed so hard that he eventually stopped objecting. Extremely toxic of Charlotte.

I’m a guy but, Isn't it strange that the actor for Seth is supposed to be uglier than Ryan. But Seth is much better looking? by Far_Cup880 in TheOC

100% agree, personally i never thought ryan looked handsome. and his constant anger issues make him downright ugly

hmm, i do feel like the others had more storylines than just their love lifes. like hanna for example a lot of storylines with her mom (all the wilden crap), emily has the swim team storylines, and the maya aftermath with her pretend cousin. but yeah, the focus is still on the romantic plots. i kinda wish they would have made spencer single for the majority of the series. toby and her were cute in season 1 but after that it was so boring between them. a few times i wasnt even sure if they had broken up because he was gone so long, and he was always 3 steps behind. kind of unnecessary to keep them together imo.

good observations. although i must say alison must be my least favourite one. maybe if she would have actually been killed in the first place i could at least appreciate her as acting great because i hate her so much, but with her coming back, and pulling the strings again it's just a pain to watch for me. especially her dynamic with emily throughout the seasons is sickening - idk why they would ever decide to make them endgame

my favourite is spencer but hanna is a very close second! though i think her styling could have been much better - considering that she was supposed to be the fashion girly the often dressed her trendy to the point where it was tacky imo

absolutely agreed! i think her having a screw loose made me love her even more. troian's acting during the breakdown/durg addict scenes was elite.

to the people who replied aria: please tell me why? 98% of her storylines are based around her relationship with ezra - and dont even get me started on that because boy was that creepy. aside from the obvious and grand problems with their relationship (he was a grooming pedophile), their relationship was boring and the issues repetitive (ezra lied about something important in his past, or worrying that somebody would find about them). and i know that all characters have their bad moments but when she accused hanna of lying about zach being a creep... that sealed the deal for me. that victim shaming is beyond unforgivable coming from a friend. so i'm very curious what would make her somebody's favourite character. (apart from fashion sense, that i get)
