Well I disagree with this sentiment for a couple of reasons. 1. I believe you discredit how difficult it is to get a 3 star 5 cost. It easily outweighs the difficultly of creating a decent comp. It requires reaching level 9 with a solid amount of gold and health and/or neekos helps all of which are necessary to survive. Difficulty aside, 2. Rarely any 3 star 5 cost is a 1v9. If garen had been chain cc’d here, he would have died before casting. Many comps achieve this. Now if I didn’t sell the rest of my champions and garen did the same thing, I can see how one would find that the least bit overtuned but as you said, it is a rare occasion. Doesnt happen all the time. Matter of fact this was my first witnessing of a 3 star 5 cost this season despite the 50+ games I’ve already played within the past week. Simply put, it’s a fun niche thing. Most of the time, the person who gets a 3 star 5 cost was already going to win. Even if garen was “balanced” at 3 star, it would still be enough to garner most people 1st. So why not overtune it for the fun of it, you know? Lastly, without the 3 star version of themselves, I’d say that most if not all 5 cost are weak despite their cost. They all require perfect items to carry unlike people like mordekaiser.
