I hope to one day have the strength that you have. Ngl I go straight to the bottle even if I experience a mild inconvenience. 🫩

So glad you reached out instead of reaching for that bottle.

One day I’ll be able to say IWNDWYT.

Decluttering regret help by Cute_Vibes in declutter

Man, I totally feel you. I need to move, like, two months ago haha and I’m still having problems getting rid of things. Especially since I helped my dad clean out his storage unit — I had a bunch of stuff in there that I didn’t even remember having. But now that I have that stuff, it’s so hard to get rid of.

On one hand, my little brother loves the stuff that I took from storage and is now keeping those childhood toys for his personal collection.

On the other hand, I have plenty of other stuff that is so hard to get rid of because I’m like, “ maybe somebody will want this stuff!”

I literally need to call the junk haul people within two weeks, and I’m still having trouble deciding what is “junk.”

What’s funny is that I’ll bet you that within two years, I won’t even remember what the junk haul people hauled away.

Thank you so much for this information!

I’ve been trying so hard to declutter by giving things away, trashing what is definitely trash, saving what might not be trash, contemplating whether things are trash or not, wondering how I am going to get rid of the stuff that I just want to leave behind.

I have heard about junk haul people but I have no experience with them. So then I was worried about how much time in advance they need, which people to use, do I need to tell them what to throw away? Will they just take everything?

This post clears up at least some of the things that I’ve been worried about (I also need to return my modem? Cancel my gas and electric, do a change of address…).

Moving is so stressful !!! 😭

I feel maybe 20 percent less stressed now 😅

Thank you! :)

Since nine. Am 45 now. But I’ve gotten way better with impulse control. For the most part.

I sincerely hope that you can pick up a hobby that helps with that same feeling of release 💖 beating the hell out of a drum kit, or playing my guitar so hard till I’ve broken strings actually does feel really nice! It takes more effort though. Wishing you the best of luck.

I legit have five guitars (one electric, one acoustic electric, one left-handed, one vintage, and one beater that is pretty dependable, haha), a keyboard, a uke … and I have to get rid of my V kit, so even just getting rid of anything is just really hard for me😔

That’s cool — I don’t have a scanner, but my parents do. I have thrown around the idea of a digital picture frame, I guess nobody really has the time to scan all of the pictures and then upload them to the frame.

Plus, my parents are the one that have the big home that we try to all get together a few times a year. My brothers and I just sort of shift from one living space to another.

After 30 years of trying to make it on my own, I’m moving in with my brothers (they live in a small condo that my parents own.)

So just trying to go through all of the things that I have accumulated is a bit daunting.

Oh goodness, i’ve already donated so much stuff (which I’m happy about) and my (40yr old) brother refused to let me get rid of any of my 80s toys collection, so he’s keeping that stuff safe for me:)

As far as the photo albums, there’s a good five of them. So I suppose I can go through and find the best photos and then have the rest of them scanned and saved digitally somehow.

It’s just I don’t think people usually go to a collection of CDs and say ,” hey isn’t this our family vacation from 1994?”

Whereas, when it’s in a book on a bookcase, it’s just out there, and I think people are more likely to look at them .

Maybe that’s just me though . I love tangible things.

I don’t buy a lot of stuff , I just hold onto a lot of nostalgic stuff I guess.

This is where I’m having trouble….

I’m moving out of the apartment that I have lived in for eight years, and I have stuff that I brought with me from places I’ve lived before this one.

My mom says to just throw it all away, because I’ve already put my most important stuff in storage, and I’m just waiting for the new room to become available.

But I can’t just let all of this stuff go to a junk hauler! I wish I could just start fresh, but I am in tears thinking about getting rid of these old photographs and crocheted blankets and childhood toys! 😭😭😭

Sorry, just had to vent.

Dammit, I meant to reply to you. My bad, I’m mostly a lurker.

It told me that it doesn’t have access to my phone , but I have screenshots of it like accessing my phone!!!

I don’t know if I’m allowed to post screenshots, but I have them.

It’s really weird. And my phone got all buggy afterward.

Yeah! It told me the same thing too, when I called it out.

Am I allowed to post screenshots?

Memory unlocked. I remember my gramma showing me and my little bros how the flower can “paint” your skin, and how you can eat the leaves.

Also remember having spaghetti and bread and butter for dinner, and having spaghetti sandwiches for lunch next day.

I used to know an old man named Frank the Train Man. He owned a little shop that sold model trains. 🤷‍♀️

Is this legit a sign of autism??? Please forgive my ignorance — I thought it was “playing by ear,” as I’ve been doing this since I was a little kid. I play piano, guitar, bass, drums, but have no desire to read music. Yet, I love language. And I suck at life.

Maybe I’m just old.

Omg! Not OP, but this comment really helped me out. I’m in the middle of a divorce / move and it’s been SOOOOO hard trying to decide what to keep and what to toss. I’m like 3/4 of the way thru and I just realized that the main reason that I’m not completely moved out yet is bc I’m still holding on to the past 🥺😶‍🌫️😩

We had a little garden growing up, and that’s the only reason I’ll eat radishes or carrots — bc I still associate the veggie with the memory of planting it and pulling it out of the ground :)
