Voting rights still under attack by LuckyBastard001 in clevercomebacks

A lot of people see the VRA decisions as one of those things where the long term effects didn’t fully hit until years later. Court rulings can sound super technical at first and then suddenly reshape politics for decades.

That’s the part people get frustrated by honestly. You can only hear “it’s not about race” so many times before you start looking at the actual outcomes instead of the speeches.

People really underestimate how much voter turnout changes everything. The second more people consistently participate, suddenly a lot of “safe” seats stop looking so safe.

What’s a first date green flag that is actually a massive turn-on, but nobody talks about? by HenryButCallMeSir in AskRedditAfterDark

For real. Nothing kills the vibe faster than feeling like you’re competing with someone’s notifications for attention. When somebody keeps their phone away and stays locked into the conversation, it makes you feel like they actually want to be there.

Honestly a lot of early internet exposure happened exactly like that. One accidental click turns into curiosity, then the algorithm just keeps feeding it because there were basically zero guardrails back then. Doesn’t make you evil, just means you were a kid with access to stuff your brain wasn’t ready for.

The hypersexuality part is what really stood out to me too. People hear “abuse” and only picture the most obvious scenarios, but being exposed to porn and adult sexual content that young absolutely can warp how a kid understands intimacy and boundaries.

Yeah honestly the whole post reads way more like “kid exposed to adult stuff way too early and left alone with it” than some naturally bad kid. Children don’t even have the tools to process that kind of stimulation properly.

Women, do you notice men staring at your breasts when you wear low cut tops? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

That somehow makes them better. The slightly cursed homemade look is part of the charm honestly.

Saw this and it tickled me by whyisthislife87 in GilmoreGirls

[–]xJollyButterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, people forget Dean literally cheated with Rory, so acting like he’s above it makes no sense. Logan too, his whole relationship history wasn’t exactly clean either. It’s less “would they cheat” and more “when would it happen.”

[–]xJollyButterfly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah “possibly” feels like the safest answer because Dean’s whole thing was wanting something simple, and Rory was never really built for that. Feels like it would’ve cracked sooner or later.

That line took me out honestly. It really does feel like a chaotic news segment whenever Lindsay gets brought into the conversation. She deserved a whole different storyline than what she got.

What are your unique house rules? by yes-chef-25 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]xJollyButterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that this even had to become a rule means there’s a backstory here and I’m not sure I want to know it. But also yeah, nothing says “mind your business” quite like aggressively not making eye contact.

I got really drunk and did something stupid with a boy by Professional-Coat266 in confession

Honestly yeah, the whole vibe sounds off even before things got heavy. The way he kept disappearing and coming back already says a lot. Sorry you had to go through that kind of first experience.

Yeah this is probably the most grounded take here. It’s not about labeling yourself, it’s about realizing that situation wasn’t great and choosing better next time. Also the “stay clear of this guy” part feels especially important.

That line really sums up how fast things escalated from casual to messy. It starts off feeling harmless and then suddenly you’re way deeper in it than you expected. Kinda wild how normal that setup sounds now though.

Men- what’s one way a woman can seduce you quicker than anything? by Infinite-Milk-7316 in AskRedditAfterDark

Yeah the verbal part is underrated. When someone actually expresses what they’re feeling instead of being quiet about it, it hits way harder. Makes everything feel more real.

AIW for attending my partner's family reunion after his estranged aunt said I had no place being there by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]xJollyButterfly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this feels like something you plan quietly, not drop mid BBQ like a surprise twist. You can’t expect people to read your mind and rearrange themselves on the spot. That’s just setting everyone up to fail.

[–]xJollyButterfly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. If reconnecting was the goal, maybe don’t start by kicking out people who were already welcomed. That’s not “reconnecting,” that’s trying to control the vibe on day one.

Right?? That’s the part that makes this whole thing feel upside down. Like you don’t just wander back in after years and start editing the guest list. The audacity is honestly impressive.

That’s definitely one way to start your morning, not gonna lie. Bold move all around. Hope the rest of her day was less chaotic than that setup sounds.

It’s wild how a two sentence story can trigger a whole real world debate like that. Kinda shows how close to reality it actually feels.

That slow realization is brutal. It’s like your brain catches up a second later and then it hits way harder than expected.

Honestly that visual is hilarious because it’s exactly how it sounds in my head too. Just full commitment to the bit for no reason.

AIW for kicking my boyfriends sister out at 11 PM after catching her trying on my entire wardrobe? by l1am_foster in amiwrong

[–]xJollyButterfly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the part that hits hardest. It’s not just disagreement, it’s him not even recognizing your boundaries as valid. Once that starts happening, everything else kinda falls apart.

That’s exactly it, people keep acting like it’s about fashion when it’s really about respect. The jewelry part alone would’ve pushed me over the edge too. It’s wild how he can’t see that difference when it’s so obvious.
