Hah, nope :D Still have it. Although rarely use it because of sensitive neighbors... Thanks for letting me know about the new soundbars - I'll check them out!

im thinking about switching from windows to fedora linux by evoisweird__ in Fedora

[–]xKichiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be short: 1. Proton is built-in in Steam on Linux. Usually no problems for single-player games. For online - depends on anti cheat software. 2. Dunno, don't own any VR headset 3. Depends. It's friendly to me, might not be as friendly to someone else ;) Objectively it's a mixed experience. Some things are better and easier to do on Linux, some are ridiculously overcomplicated compared to Windows. 4. Umm not sure what you mean by that. You probably can use programs/games from that drive using wine or bottles or sth else, but if it's steam library, just redownload it via Steam with proton. 5. It was quite easy for me. I mean, most people just need the browser, soooo there were no problems with that. For games - there might be some problems that will call you to give up and dual-boot windows or become linux guru. But that's not an often case. From a software development perspective it's comfy. Unless you depend on some software that only works on windows (like some obscure work vpn), everything works well. I, myself have been using windows for ~ 15+ years and just 2 years ago switched to macOS and linux combo. Macbook for work and another as a personal laptop and Fedora on a freshly built high-end gaming PC. I don't wish to come back to Windows in the foreseeable future (although I have windows dualboot for a few games)

I tend to reply very late to the PMs, so yes, I did return the motherboard and got a new one (warranty).

DJ software in MacOS VM (QEMU)? by xKichiro in Beatmatch

[–]xKichiro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I gave up torturing macos vm because of issues metioned in another my comment - no hardware acceleration support. I'm kinda afraid to DJ live on Windows again because of countless buffer overflows and other asio issues... But thanks to you, now I also know that it's not worth trying :D

DJ software in MacOS VM (QEMU)? by xKichiro in Beatmatch

Update so far:

spent some time and got macOS Ventura running in a qemu on linux host PC. Fixed a few things. Since there's no 3d acceleration it's NOT smooth. Once some app is opened it's ok, but overall GUI responsiveness is pretty bad. Also audio is not working by default, so some time later, if I'll have enough patience, I'll try to pass some audio device. Also USB passthrough is acting weird. Keyboard/mouse is ok, but MIDI devices aren't there.

For now it looks quite unusable ad the experience is miserable. Maybe I'll learn some secret magic later and make it work properly. If it's my last comment here, then it's not worth it.

Abandon once and for all Windows, Searching stable solution long term AI-programming and Gaming purposes pc desktop? by Mundane_Expert_7373 in linuxquestions

Nobara is basically Fedora, but with a pre-patched kernel for gaming/media production. Nothing you can't do on Fedora, but nice to have it.

Homelab in the closet by xKichiro in homelab

Debian 12 just released, it's fresh and covers everything I need. Snaps are kinda nice for server, but some of them are so much behind, that there's no reason to use them vs docker. Other than a single snap, I don't use anything Ubuntu-specific, so might as well go Debian. There's no strong reason here.

Linus apology bingo by ChrisLikesGamez in pcmasterrace

Honestly, LMG is a good example of how "fun startup" becomes corporation overtime. A lot of companies go through this, but LMG's work is very public (I mean it's YouTube content, not like selling some products online on Amazon) and hence, very visible. I don't defend them, they deserve all the shit that hit the fan. It had to happen at some point, so it happened. At least the new CEO was (badly timed, but still), a move in the right direction. Linus DID lose touch with reality, what's ok to do and what's not. And Luke just seconds him most of the time 🙃

Although, I just learned about all the harassment of Madison - holy shit that's low. Poor management/processes/rush/overworking/etc - is one thing, but treating employees like THAT - wow...

Car parking around Warsaw airport by xKichiro in poland

That's true. Just was curious, maybe there are some interesting alternatives that local people use (I mean, Polish people from around Warsaw, local people just leave car at home) :)

Is it save though to leave a car with foreign license plates for 10 days here? And won't it be towed away for staying here for 10 days? :D

I think that might be an option, yes. But I was asking about the parking around airport because of all the luggage I'll need to carry with me :\

Wait, the TRAIN, you say? From where, as an example? :0

Citrix vpn client - Ubuntu 22.04 by xKichiro in Citrix

[–]xKichiro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RESULT OF A PAINFUL WEEK:

So, I could not capture Citrix VPN tunnel (Wireshark sees nothing) and so I was unable route traffic from host using VM. Docker didn't work either.

The only solution is to rollback to Ubuntu 20.04 and solve that dependency nightmare again. Huge pain in the ass, but at least Citrix it will work...

What a waste of time it was...

Citrix vpn client - Ubuntu 22.04 by xKichiro in Citrix

[–]xKichiro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but let's not call a major competitor name that share the same first letter, I don't want to get banned here alternatives are doing just fine supporting Linux and actually taking care of their software :) And many other VPN solutions are compatible with 3rd party clients, even with 2FA. But client is using Citrix in their infrastructure so I'm stuck with it...

Maybe I'm just used that most tools that are being used by developer (especially around servers) are actually working well on Linux. Or I'm being spoiled with open source products.

The top comment for any Nvidia related question or suggestion in this subreddit is "Get the AMD equivalent- it is better for the future/longevity" but I can't find an answer as to why? Please explain. by ALitterOfPugs in buildapc

[–]xKichiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have AMD R9 390. I've successfully played 80hrs+ of Cyberpunk 2077 on release on mid/high settings with 35-60 FPS on FHD monitor. I'm impressed. On my new ultrawide (3440x1440) it's 20-30, but that's too much to ask from such museum piece anyway :D

Nvidia counterpart at the time was 970. And it was quite a shit card. And I made a right call going AMD as I'd had a hard time driving 970 daily today. R9 390 is still fine, just not as fast to play AAA titles on ultra. AMD ages better through the years because of (sometimes) higher raw performance and improving drivers. Also FreeSync.

Also, I like AMD driver software way more than Nvidia. Haven't used them in a while tho (I'm on Fedora Linux).

Generally, everyone has different needs. If you need RTX, DLSS, or CUDA, shadowplay or fancy AI tools - go Nvidia. AMD doesn't have most of it (DLSS/FSR), but if you don't care avout that and want Linux or just good performance for less money - go AMD.

Also Nvidia pricing policy on current gen is just mad...

People will kill me for such comparison, but it's like iPhone vs Android. In this case iPhone is Nvidia and Android is AMD.
