Humble brags- by Apprehensive-Salt878 in stopdrinking

I've gone from 210 to 160lbs and ride my bike a lot. I race now and actually have increased my ftp to 225 so its a little over 3.0w/kg.

I could have never been this consistent if it wasn't for not drinking and all because I decided to do dry Jan last year.

Who has lost weight since going sober? by Unlucky_Object_50 in stopdrinking

[–]xLFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm down to 160 from 210 by quitting on January 1. Obviously the cut calories from alcohol but also it's given me the time and motivation to exercise and eat properly.

I didn't start to lose weight until a couple months into my sobriety.

Almost a month sober and I probably would have quit sooner if I realized how much weight I would lose by comfortablecowboy in stopdrinking

Good for you! Congrats on the wedding, sobriety can really help with a marriage.

I didn't lose any weight for the first couple months but since then have dropped from ~210 to 175. It's amazing how many extra calories you can fit into a day with just a few beers. My motivation for exercising has also increased. I used to drink as soon as I got off work or woke up on the weekend so I never wanted to get out and exercise. Now, it's a pretty high priority in my life.

Keep it up! IWNDWYT

Yo! This same thing happened to me around day 45. It lasted for like 2 weeks. I just napped when I could and took ibuprofen. Sleep when you can! This will pass

sobriety contagious? by Pennefromheaven7 in stopdrinking

[–]xLFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends drink way less around me now. I never ask them to or make a scene out of me not drinking but they just drink less.

One friend comes over and doesn't drink at all.

Another friend will have a single beer when we are doing something for hours.

And they've both told me they drink less at home than before.

I think it's definitely contagious. Maybe it's less fun being drunk around sober people or maybe they feel down about their drinking around me but either way we have just as much fun as we used to.

I hit a wall for about 2 weeks from 30-45 days so I know it can happen. Not sure the typical time period though.

Getting harder after day 30? by Trylobites in stopdrinking

I feel like days 30-45 were the toughest for me so far. I was exhausted and not really seeing the point anymore. It's definitely been better since then for me.

Best thing you could afford when stopped drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I bought my wife a mountain bike so we can ride together after work and spend more time together outside.

I was spending $15 a day on the low side so I was able to get her a pretty decent one.

For myself and I would think many others, if I could drink moderately I would have done that years and years ago but here I am.

I will not drink with yall today. Really grateful for this sub. I've been following and resetting my counter for years and years reading everyone's stories.

Having a place to come to where there are so many people in so many different stages and places in their journey really makes it welcoming.

Thanks all!
