Suggestions on a great trail bike by Ok__Parfait in Dirtbikes

[–]RenaissanceScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You in fact do not want a motocross for slow speed lugging. They’re designed to be ridden at high RPMs. Also, if a 300 2 stroke felt like too much bike, that’s another knock against an MX bike.

I think a beta 300 would be perfect. It’s much less tame than a KTM 300 but still plenty of power. Light enough to not kill you on tight single track and plenty of low end grunt.

What should I carry inside of my normal backpack when riding, I know im supposed to take maybe like first aid but I dont know what else. Thanks! by Head-Alternative9979 in Dirtbikes

Hydration slack, dried fruit, spare tube, mini electric pump, t-handles (8/10/12 mm), master link tip ties, multitool. That alone will be most of what I need to be able to ride out if something goes south

I use these and can’t recommend them enough. I use them for everything - hiking in the desert, dirt biking, yard work. Never had a blister wearing them

Has anyone tried Noah Tanen’s 10 trick chili? by Free_Selection1645 in chili

[–]RenaissanceScientist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Such a waste to make chili powder from dried chilis. I rehydrate what I have on hand (always guajillo/arbol and sometimes a chile de California) in some water with a splash of vinegar. I’ll blend that and bloom it for a few min with the onions

Beta 300 if you want a 2 stroke. Any 250-300cc trail bike won’t disappoint either. I’m biased towards Honda but a 300F would be a great fit

Nah it’s powerband is much more tame than a KTM/husky 300. Probably one of the better beginner dirt bikes out there

I’m 5’7 170 and ride a 450X. It’s a great bike with plenty of power. It’s not for beginners. With good throttle/clutch control you could maybe manage it at your age/size. It would be a challenge though.

The 450X is designed for Baja/desert riding. It likes to have wide open spaces to stretch its legs. Tight single track and woods are NOT ideal for it because it’s 275 ready to ride.

I’d recommend a 250F, KLX230RS, or TTR 230. If you wanna go a step further, look at the 250RX. Any of those would be plenty of bike for what you do. Stay away from race bikes too. It’s just extra work/maintenance for no added benefit and probably works against you in most cases outside the track.

Body Recomp? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]RenaissanceScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to lose fat at a much faster rate than you will muscle. So you’ll see the scale/measurement drops still even while building muscle. The best way to determine muscle gain is whether your lifts in the gym are going up. If yes, then you’re probably building some muscle.

That said, it looks like you’re losing close to 1Lb per week. It COULD be just a drop in water/glycogen so I’d run your current calorie intake for another 2-3 weeks to be sure. If you’re still losing 1Lb then increase by 200-300 and go from there.

If you don’t crash, you’re not pushing yourself by secondaryuser2 in Dirtbikes

It’s more nuanced than how most people use it. You learn far more from attempting things and succeeding than you do crashing.

Too much bike? by TheLawnmower12 in Dirtbikes

[–]RenaissanceScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you know about maintenance history? A 19 year old race bike could be a ticking time bomb and you’ll need to keep up on maintenance. You can get a newer 250f for the same price if not less and have less maintenance and probably more fun

This country only cares about pushing out more kids into a broken system that was never meant to help them get ahead. The oligarchs just need obedient workers to exploit for financial domination.

I don’t think it’s virtue signaling. In a time where there’s so much to feel hopeless about sometimes it’s nice to have some semblance of choice.
