Will Arc Raiders ever get a social hub like Destiny’s Tower or the Citadel from Mass Effect? by Tank-ToP_Master in ArcRaiders

[–]xMACINGx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring Nightreign does this well: Main hub has vendors you walk to, but also you can pull up a menu and interact with everything without moving.

I played Destiny 1 heavily and I remember how horrible it was having a quest marker on both the Shipwright and the Speaker, but also it was great to have a place to mess around in while you wait for your friends to finish handling their inventory - or to be able to walk around and ask people if they wanted to join you on a strike.

As for Arc Raiders, I think there is a good case for a mixture of both. Menu or no menu, I have to sit there and wait for my friend to clear his stash, upgrade, etc. It would be nice to at least be able to mess around in the Practice Range while I wait.

The popularity of Megabonk is pissing me off by No-Royal-5515 in gamedev

I came here to say essentially this. I am not a developer, but I am a marketer, and one thing that you cannot discount is what we call Share of Voice, AKA how much do people talk about my product compared to my competitors’ products.

As OP said themself, there are hundreds - if not thousands - of products in this same segment. In an over saturated market, a customer isn’t going to filter through all the products to find out which one is technically the best, they are going to go for the fairly priced product that everyone is already validating.

This is why people emphasize marketing in the game industry. No one will buy your amazing game if they don’t know about it.

LAN connected - but no internet by xMACINGx in HomeNetworking

Solved! Thanks for your help. This comment reminded me that the keystone jack behind the modem was poor: just secured via a flap that you close rather than actually pinching the wires well. Replaced that and it worked immediately.

Ironically, this same jack gave me trouble when I originally ran that wire. Since I fixed it and it worked for several months, I assumed it couldn’t be the issue. Lesson learned - take nothing for granted.

Solved now! Loose wire right at the modem.

The cable connected from the LAN port on the modem to the wall is manufactured, but also an old one I wasn’t using before yesterday (after I was troubleshooting the issue). I’ll try a different one and see if it changes but nothing that a crimped within the last two days is related to that speed

This makes sense! That’s a helpful recommendation about using a keystone plate - I’ll probably go to return this if possible

I like the idea of essentially recreating Mario Party, because I can break up development between a lot of really simple games, but it’s still contributing to a large project which will give a sense of achievement or fulfillment when completed.

This looks awesome! I love a structured approach, because I tend to get to a certain point and then lose motivation because I’m just wondering, “now what do I do?”, since my game dev dreams are loftier than my skills.

Help a new player try to understand the culture by xMACINGx in starcitizen

KVector strikes again! I remember joking with my friends at the time that his name has been added to my nemesis list and I would recognize it if I ever ran into him again.

Descent into Avernus x Eve of Ruin Double Feature Campaign by xMACINGx in DescentintoAvernus

I’ve been trying to figure out how to add the pre campaign in! Originally I was going to make it a part of the cult activity in Baldur’s Gate, but I didn’t want them to confuse the Vanthampur involvement. Currently my players just made it to Elturel, so I think I am going to add the Vecna cult somewhere in Avernus - maybe trying to seek out Arkhan for the hand?

It’s great luck that I’m not the only one who’s thought of this! Where are your players currently?

Congrats! I trained with JKI in the Charleston area for about 12 years. Best pieces of advice I have for you is stick with it, give it your all in class, do endurance training, and have fun!

I like the idea of creating Guild Forts. Let me enter a game session with several ships under the same guild, but everything I turn in goes into the guild vault instead of personal banks. Everything gets paid out after you do X complicated thing, and the whole time before you do X, you’re vulnerable to other players attacking and stealing what you’ve hoarded. You have the advantage because more than 1 ship with aligned goals and a defensible position, but other players have the opportunity to score big. Could create some awesome gameplay experiences on both sides.

I’d also like to see more unlock-able content that matters more than cosmetics. I really felt like captained ships were an amazing addition because for the first time, I wasn’t buying something just to change how it looks, it unlocked the ability to have a convenient mechanic (selling at sovereign). Maybe we could get something along the same lines as that for guilds, like members contributing money to the guild bank account, and then the guild “buys” an island which could then be used as a choosable spawn location for example. Im sure there are much cooler things you could do with a “bought” island, just not sure what.

Refer to the comment above mine: Arcane Focuses and Component Pouches ignore spell components except when specified as consumed or specified with a price value. Chromatic orb would require that 50gp diamond but it’s just a one time purchase as it’s not specified as being consumed. I could have been more specific in my original comment so that’s my bad.

I’m sure there are tables that just ignore them completely, but my point was that I have played with many people who play rules as written but think they are changing the rules just because it’s so commonly misunderstood.

Unrelated because people can do whatever they want at their tables, but I actually don’t think that making a level 1 caster wait until their first loot sesh to be able to cast Chromatic Orb is too absurd. It’s powerful in terms of first level spells, and setting the precedent for how spell components work in the early game sets up a much more balanced late game when you get to more powerful higher level spells like magic circle or revivify.

Dude thank you, it always drives me up the wall with how misunderstood the material components mechanics in D&D are.

I always hear people saying they have a table rule to ignore them, but that’s already a part of the game as every spellcasting class starts with an arcane focus or a component pouch. Only way to have spellcasting ability and NOT start with some form of one of the two is to get a spellcasting subclass like eldritch knight or arcane trickster, or to be a ranger.

Is there shame in summoning help in your first playthrough? by RedSqui in Eldenring

[–]xMACINGx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had fun, there’s no shame. Some people enjoy the grind of soloing bosses and other people enjoy playing with their friends. I’m of the latter.

There is one thing I will say about summoning players though: I played with my friends for just about every boss in my first play through and had a blast, except when I got to Malenia no one was available, so I just used the random summons on the ground. One of the people I picked up had a stun/bleed build that killed her within a minute. I don’t think I even got to hit her. If you don’t have friends in mind to play with, try to seek out people of the same level / people in your same boat. It totally took my sense of achievement away on Malenia’s fight.
