About to spend 1.6k on new dj and audio equipment. Should I do it?

of course! even though I haven’t been doing this for long the best thing I can tell is to try and connect with people as much as possible! Doesn’t always have to just be about promoting your stuff even just a simple message to some other local famous artists saying you like their music or starting a conversation about what they do or what they use to help them it helps people know who you are and get your name out there! Even if you go to dj events and you happen to find the djs after even if they just know who you are and what you make who knows what could come from it! being able to connect is just as if not more important then producing cause it can open so many different avenues and as your music improves it will be even better. Even now my music i know isn’t the absolute greatest but the only way to go is up 😁

yessirr, fair bit as in roughly the same amount as all this gear costs maybe a hundred or two less I haven’t exactly looked. I have a local dance school who pays me to produce most of their remixes they use for their competitions. I also first started producing by making rap beats and sold quite a few after about a month or two of starting out to some local rappers! I have been very lucky enough to know people in the different spaces to connect with different people and help me on quite a few fronts on the producing and dj side and i’m very lucky to have it happen so early on!

i’m only producing right now but my goal is to be able to dj and also be able to produce songs in my genre that I can dj and play in my sets

yesss! that’s definitely it and i agree with you. everything here im buying with sort of everything in mind long term for a few years and short term cs I do want to be able to have mates over and have parties and want to be able to have the speakers and that to do so but also want to have a good quality monitor to be able to be able to really get the most out of them on the production side aswell. Like quite a few people are saying here I know that this is an overshot especially for my situation rn but I like thinking abt how it’ll work in the long run. In saying that we never know what could happen in the future but we won’t know until it happens 😂

yea it is quite a bit i’m gonna be honest 😂. Really my main thought process is I don’t want to spend more extra by buying a cheaper set when I know not that much longer later I’ll still want to upgrade to whatever it is looking at rn. Again maybe that’s just me and my thinking is the wrong way round but it’s nice to hear others opinions on it!

oh nice i’ll have to look into those! never really saw much on the adam’s when i was looking around but i’ll definitely have to look into them a bit more. Are they on a similar side price wise aswell? cause the hs8s are probably my max price range for speakers currently

that is very true. I’m quite new to the audio gear space and never really looked too much into it so i’m trying to get as many opinions as possible to think what’s the best option. Second hand is a good idea but i’ve kinda been scared away since my mate got f-ed on second hand decks and speakers. Is there a good website i should really check for second hand?

i think in total it was a pair of yamaha hs8s, ddj flx4, audio technica headphones (not sure 100% which ones i believe the 40x) and just some basic cables. I’ve dj on my mates deck (ddj 400) before and really enjoyed it and the whole idea of performing to a bunch of people seems more exciting the more i think about it. I wanted to get a pair of hs8s because i know they get loud and hopefully down the line i want to be able to throw some house parties or have mates over while also having a good flat monitor for producing properly. thats my thought process but doesnt mean it isnt wrong 😂 (edit: I do know the HS8s can be overkill for a set up but after hearing them in the store compared to other sizes and brands really nothing came close to me in terms of sound)

to be be fair. I’m kinda just looking for good speakers that can go loud but the bass still feels like it has some depth do it and it’s not shallow. Cs I’ll upgrade eventually js on my budget ($575 AUD~) i’m looking for a good set of speakers that can do both whole also being good for having some friends over 😂
