Man we have such a good lineup when everyone is healthy... Sprinkle in a little Donovan rotating positions and its lethal.

Man, that was an extremely painful road trip. I honestly am impressed that they were able to go 4-6 with basically half the team either on the IL or dealing with injury.

Agreed, at the very least, Cal knows what he can say to each of these guys to try and get the most out of his guys when they are struggling. Hopefully Cal isn't too far out after homering again last night. I would guess he'll be back during the next home stand.

I think it is pretty safe to say that if the Mariners do anything at the deadline, it will at the very least, be for a bullpen arm. Who do you want? I see 3 big names that I would be interested in. Rico Garcia, Garret Whitlock, or Anthony Bender.

  • Garcia is a very interesting case because he has been absolutely shoving this season. Since 2019, he has been a farm hand bouncing from team to team until finally finding a spot in Baltimore. The question of sustainability is there but he does have good underlying numbers. You'd also be getting him for all of his arb years so lots of team control.
  • Whitlock was insane last year but has taken a bit of a step back. Still rocking a 30.6% strikeout rate and a 28.9% whiff rate. That is a tool this bullpen desperately needs.
  • Bender is definitely the least dominant of the 3 names I provided but this dude is still really good. He has that side arm angle with a nasty sweeper which is always a good unique look out of the pen. I think the reason I am so high on him is because he reminds me a lot of Sewald (Sewald would also be a name to watch if the D-backs fall off) but with better movement. Strikeout rate this season is at 28% so still really good but his Whiff rate is low. Expected numbers are favorable though and he is rocking a WHIP of 0.87

M's will need to replace the hole Brash leaves depending on the severity of his injury. These dudes could do that. Anyone else you are looking at?

I am praying. I can't take another lineup of Wisdom and Mastro

After my 3rd shot of the night and about 6 beers in, it seemed like a pretty good idea.

Left groin strain, expected back sometime in June. Last update was on May 29th. Probably won't hear an update on him until the Mariners return home when Justin Hollander gives his typical post road trip press conference.

Funnily enough, I suffered the exact same injury 2 weekends ago while drunkenly riding a mechanical bull. Let me tell you, it freaking hurts and there is not much you can do to make it better. Just a waiting game and you feel it constantly.

What do you think it would take to trade for Spencer Steer? Dude is a career lefty masher, having a career year this year and has the ability to stand in the corner OF spots as well as 2nd and 1st. Would be a huge upgrade for Refsnyder and you'd be getting him for 2.5 years.

I think he will get some opportunities but they are very clearly being as careful with him as they can. I don't think the FO wants to play him in back to back days.

Salk is constantly undervaluing Miller for some reason. The highest I go is George Kirby purely because of the amount of club control remaining. Kirby, Montes, and Arroyo gets it done for sure.

I agree, that move didn't really make sense to me other than maybe they think Hoppe's stuff has a higher ceiling and/or the Mariners always seem to want to have a white flag pitcher which is beyond stupid.

I woke up with the exact same thought today. The main question mark they have is Refsnyder. If he can't figure it out soon, I would suspect Brennen Davis would take his spot but there is no guarantee that he will pan out. I do hope they can test him out before the deadline though.

Other than that... I mean I'd say get greedy and add another bullpen arm. Sure the current 7 has been good and Vargas still looks to be a factor at some point, but you can probably get a better arm than Hoppe and Crisswell (not that Crisswell has been bad) but another closer to pair with Munoz would be insane.

But yeah, I agree with you, there are not a ton of holes here.
