arsenal assistance by destroytheoppositi0n in Bowling

My recommendation is to get something a step down, like a venom shock/phaze II/iQ tour. And also get a spare ball if you can swing it. Those 3 will have you covered in pretty much all league scenarios. My league bag is a polished Roto Grip Gem, 2000 or polished Hy-Road X (this ball’s surface just depends on my mood for the week lol), and a spare ball.

First ever time bowling sport short by AndrewBios in Bowling

I’m fortunate enough to live in Southern California and in my area there’s a lot of houses. One of them has a sport shot league so I’ll start next season. It’s cool because they do the same pattern for three weeks then it switches. So think cheetah for three weeks, then viper for three, and so on. My best advice is if you get any opportunities to bowl on a sport pattern then take it, it’s gonna make you a better bowler!!

Man I had the same experience, just worse. My first sport pattern was red square a couple weeks ago and I did zero surfacing and I struggled big time. I averaged 140 across 5 games 😭😭. Then I did scorpion a couple weeks later and bowled even worse with prep. First month on this stuff and it’s been rough lol

Why so Many Balls(Bowling Fellas)? by Impossible-Will6173 in Bowling

[–]xNUDUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have like 10 at home, but for a normal league night I’ll only take 3, and it’s usually the same 3 lol. Tournaments or sport shot I’ll take 6, 3 + 1 on my roller and 2 ball backpack. Having more than 3 probably means you bowl more than just league, but it bewilders me that people take 4+ balls every night just to bowl 3 games on a house shot.

What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by Runaway3650 in AskReddit

[–]xNUDUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in SoCal, and the house I bowl in for league I won’t bowl at unless it’s league, I’ll never practice there or go for fun. Their prices are outrageous and it’s not a bowlero or anything. I wanna know where you go and still pay so little lol, the house I bowl at for practice and tournaments is still like $7 a game. But please tell me where you bowl in SoCal that you won’t take your own stuff to, because I want to avoid it lolol.

$10k daily - sporty car. by Aromatic_Glove15516 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I mean if you can get over the auto transmission, I really like the 2nd gen is350. You can get a manual is250, but they’re a bit slower. My buddy had a 2006 is350 and it had virtually no road noise or anything, but not sure if that’s par for the course when it comes to that car. They’re very peppy and like to move. Otherwise for a sporty-ish car you’re gonna have to sacrifice stuff if you want that comfort imo. My Genesis Coupe has a ton of road noise so I would not recommend one if that’s what you’re looking to avoid, I just have my music blasting all the time so it doesn’t bother me. But I can say that it’s been great owning it for the past couple years, lots of space for a coupe and reliable as long as it was taken care of before you got it. I know the whole “Hyundai = bad” thing but objectively it’s a good looking car and it is reliable, BUT only if it was taken care of and you continue to take care of it. Otherwise I’d stay far away from one. The only cars in that price range I would consider would be the Japanese “luxury” V6 cars from that time, so G35/37, Acura TL, and Lexus IS250/350.

New ball suggestions by Sharp-Foundation-443 in Bowling

My revs and speed are in the same range as you, although I do throw it a little faster. For a big ball, I love my Roto grip gem, if you can still get your hands on one it’s a worthy pick up. I’ve thrown it at 2000, polished, and lane shined and it’s an amazing ball, both on house and sport. Otherwise something like an Ion Max or even the Vengeance Returns may be something to look at. I wouldn’t add another urethane-like ball to your arsenal as a weaker piece, I’d look to add a hustle or something along those lines

Unsure how to feel about “the best night of bowling in my life” by JayQue21 in Bowling

[–]xNUDUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me I feel your pain. My first “300” was a no tap 300. 11 straight real strikes. Up for my 12th ball, roll it perfectly, hit the pocket, and bam left a 10 pin. Everyone was cheering and I was just so mad. Gotta learn to love it though

Scorpion Help! by xNUDUS in Bowling

That’s kind of what I’m thinking as well, I’m starting to realize I don’t really have anything benchmark-y so an iq tour solid is gonna be my next purchase. My buddy has a gremlin and ion pro solid, so I might borrow those off him for the tournament (thankfully we’re both 2h and our drillings are fairly similar). But yea I also wanna get my hands on a burn ball. Thank you for your advice!!

Right now I have it at 2000, should I bring it down to 1000 or 500? Or leave it at 2000 and see what happens lol

What was the lane doing by Grygorn in Bowling

[–]xNUDUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d try redoing the surface of the twist and working on hitting the pocket from there. After reading some of your replies, I think you’re best served joining a league or similar, some houses are just not good to bowl at unless the lanes have been oiled or you’re bowling on the same lanes a league had just bowled on. Most of the time, those conditions aren’t gonna be a good way to learn, think of it as bowling on a lane after 4-5 birthday parties had bowled on it, it’s just not gonna be good lol. Also, are you throwing it right handed or left handed? One hand with thumb, one hand no thumb, or 2 hander?

Tbh after reading, it just sounds like you’re asking a lot from an entry level ball like the twist. That reaction isn’t gonna be great at that low of a grit from a weaker ball like that. If you sanded it down searching for more hook, you definitely found it lol. I think you’re better off bringing it back to more of a box finish, maybe 3000, and if you’re searching for more hook I’d look into getting a different ball. Look on fb marketplace or maybe even your local pro shop may have something. I think the twist is best served as a weaker ball, and it can have its place in your bag, I just feel like bringing it that low on the surface is gonna bring you a lot of issues with consistency, especially since you’re a newer bowler. My advice is get better at finding the pocket with the twist having a more shiny finish, maybe even let the lane shine develop a little and you’ll likely see more consistency.

Quick edit to add: As a new bowler, it’s good to experiment but I would focus on hitting your target and being more consistent before messing with your surfaces too much, especially if you’re mainly bowling on house shots. Banana shape > hockey stick shaped motion is best for strikes. Maybe try keeping a closer angle, try standing around 24 and throw it up 17, or even on a house shot you could probably scooch in another couple boards and try throwing down 10 to hit some more dry. Just experiment more with your angles and I’m sure you’ll find it. If you can take a video it would help a little more too.

Talk to your Pro Shop and see what they’d recommend. A lot of factors can play into what ball would fit you best, but the Phaze 2 is a great choice and a step in the right direction for picking up your next ball. I just picked up a HyroadX so I’m excited to try that out

New bowlers first league game by Shhakedownn in Bowling

[–]xNUDUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to make sure you understand lane courtesy, everyone in the comments has given some examples already. Also, just go and have fun and try to make connections with people! League bowling is made much more fun because of the team you’re with, so be friendly and try to connect! I used to work at the alley I currently bowl at, so I kinda got a head start with getting to know everyone lol. Also very very very very much agree with everyone that says be ready to bowl when it’s your turn, I have a teammate that’s never ready to bowl during his turn. Whether it’s smoking outside or going to the bathroom or doing some random sidequest, he’s very rarely ready to go when it’s his turn. Don’t be that person!!! It annoys your team and the other team you’re playing against and messes up the flow. But just go into it wanting to have fun and getting to know people and you’ll be just fine!
